Only religion would advance the idea that there is a fantasy 'god' who wants you to suffer in order to be special enough to be loved and then maybe forgiven. Only religion would see the great diversity of thought and culture on this planet and insist that their precious, infallible 'god' needs fallible human beings to become enslaved robots under only one way of throught (THEIRS). Only religion says 'god' creates all things and then brainwashes followers into persecuting, hating and killing anything that doesn't suit Religious Agenda. The church protects the pedophiles and perverts in it's ranks, causing incredible damage to your children. THEN it tells you to turn to religion when you feel helpless. Nothing like fostering the condition you seek to advert. what a crock. "Fat pig priest. Sanctimonious smiles. He takes the money. You take the lies." (Johnny Rotten/Public Image Ltd)

I wanted to comment on the article itself. I wasn't sure what the point of the writing actually was at some points. The first half of the article was written in such a way that it seemed all the author wanted to do was list the various religions being represented in the Santa Fe area. The second half was a listing of how people cope with loss in a general sense. I was expecting to receive a case-by-case listing of people who have experienced tragedy and how religion helped them through the situation, but nothing like that was ever written. All in all, this was a very poorly written article and way too short to be dedicated to such a large subject.

I've got no problem with "God" per se, it's all of God's little helpers that muddle things up a bit.

This article and many of these comments address much of the problem today. People turn to religion instead of turning to God.

I view organized religion (O.R.) as purely human and human driven. Like certain government entities, viruses, and the human race itself; their only REAL objective is to stick around and multiply. I'm sure someone will point out where O.R. has done something good, but to that I'll counter by saying any other organization can do the same thing and not be religious about it. Besides, just think of all the good real estate those big churches are taking up.
Post #1 really says it all.

I was making a soft drink out of vodka and V8 juice and accidentally spilled some on the drainboard.
I must say---
If you squint just right, the spill looks just like the Virgin Mary.
Think I'll go for Jesus later.

I myself love the death raw inmates talking about god saving their lives...or parents that abandon, rape, abuse their children...and at one point, VOILA...god!
