How about a tax free company to teach americans chinese? We could bring in hundreds of people from china; which would have to pay MA resident taxes; thus increasing monies the MA politicians continue to waste on birdbrain ideas. And no I'm not against eco energy, but give me a break.

The latest green jobs failure in Massachusetts is no surprise:
Evergreen Solar Inc., which received $58 million in state aid to open a factory in 2008 at the former military base in Devens, announced today it would shut the plant and let go 800 workers by the end of this quarter. The solar-panel plant is a cornerstone of Governor Deval Patrick’s efforts to make Massachusetts a hub for the emerging clean-energy industry…
The company lost $54 million through the first nine months of 2010, and has, since its founding in 1994, accumulated a total deficit of more than $630 million. Last month, it engineered a reverse stock split to maintain capital requirements for the main Nasdaq stock exchange. Before the split, Evergreen’s stock had been trading at about 50 cents.
Evergreen did not say what will happen to the solar-panel assembly work now done at Devens, but the company noted it will continue to operate facilities in China and Michigan.
But it was just a few short years ago the company was a darling in the eyes of the Patrick administration, which offered Evergreen a rich package of grants, land, loans, and other aid – some $76 million in all-to build a new facility at Devens. The company eventually accepted $58.5 million, one of the largest investments Massachusetts has made in a private company.
They should start calling them “brown jobs”— to reflect the color of the sewer down which untold millions have been flushed in the name of environmental stimulus.

Ironically, you a$$-clowns in the Northeast call yourselves the most educated people in the world.

Deval will send those 800 manufacturing workers to the Career Center where they will be retrained using federal money. The same money the state has hired Career Center Specialists to police from those workers who have lost their technical support jobs to the folks in India. At least with high technology our military will be required to stay strong, meaning more spending, and perhaps some will actually pay to protect their trillion invested in Bangalore, or Bejiing .....Deval should be fired for this blunder but then who will tell us how good we are doing in Massachusetts ....

they should have to pay back all the money plus fines for failure to own up to there agreement with the state but since its only the taxpayers money the state will let them walk and they will misuse our money again!!

Pay back the money with what?
The is business is failing or failed because nobody bought their products.
This is basic stuff, it get's more difficult later.

Just another glaring example of the failure of Big Governmennt and liberal social and economic engineering schemes.

When will you people EVER learn?

Gov. doesn't create jobs, it only creates debt that the private sector has to pay for!

Evergreen Solar is no different than Bernie Madoff. They took the money and ran and the company needs to be held accountable. I would make it virtually impossible for this company to export anything into the USA from China. China is not our friend, they cater to the green energy corporations and world population control advocates. It is an evil nation which has evil intentions..

And Bernie Madoff was an EXACT replica of Social Security in a fly-fart kind of way.

Madoff is in jail while the Gov. has made-off with trillions in SS monies, never to be recouped.

So I see evil right here in DC as well.

This isnt the first company to pull this crap. It happens all over the country.
The biggest offender in Massachusetts? Raytheon. They've strongarmed the state and municipal governments for tax breaks for decades with the threat of moving jobs out of state, then moved the job anyway.
The lesson should be learned nationwide. Dont let corporatins play one state against another

After the BIG DIG, this fiasco is nothing in
comparison. Just more bux flushed down the toilet.
Raytheon did it's thing using some of the best
politicians money could buy, so their swindle was
bigger by far than Evergreen's. Still........

Dont bother closing the barn door, the horses have
already stampeded away.

If you really want to stop this crap from happening
again in the future, the answer is simple:

REPEAL NAFTA and China's Favored Trading Status.
Tariff the crap out of them, like they do us, dammit !!!!
