$75 million in profit on $5.2 billion in sales isn't exactly robust, Skippy. A 1.4% profit? Whoopdeedoo. That's called barely breaking even. Before you start criticizing maybe you should think about what you're saying.

And who is the idiot who wrote this headline? The company is called Goodyear, not Goodyear's.

Hey Goodyear, why aren't you helping out with our Derby Downs??!! They do need a national sponsor. I think you could at least help out!

Good to hear they made record profits - so they shouldn't have to lay off anyone, right? RIGHT? And if they lay off people in Akron, do they forfeit the tax deal the mayor gave them to stay here?

With these mostly anti-business posts is it any wonder NE ohio can't attract new business?

I'm not anti-business, but I do expect people (and companies) to keep their promises. Goodyear made a sweet deal with the City of Akron to keep jobs here. I have heard now that Goodyear is starting to lay off Akron workers, in spite of "record profits." I bet we read in the ABJ soon that Goodyear is laying off Akron workers.

I am betting right down to the last person needed. To keep akron happy on how many they would employ. Via the last aggrement to keep the HQ here.

Go back and reread the article....said record sales...not record profits. Meaning they are making less on everything they sell even with cost cutting measures.

With $75 million in profits in one quarter (headline) they shouldn't be laying off workers. If they are losing money, then the top executives should take a pay cut AND pass on the bonuses. ABJ March 8, 2008: "The five top-paid Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. executives were paid a combined $34.1 million to $34.7 million in 2007, depending on two different compensation formulas." Almost $35 million split between FIVE GUYS! There is no way they can justify laying off any Akron workers and not tighten their personal belts. Sorry, that's just wrong.

Keegan made over $20 million last year in salary and bonuses. I stand by my statement - the executives should personally sacrifice to protect their employees.

Read this article and see if we can brainstorm on a "cost-cutting" measure:

Guess you don't understand how business's operate. Guess you don't understand that as a publically held company they are responsible to follow SEC laws. Guess you don't understand what it takes to run a company.

Learn a bit about business, the costs involved, and the laws that must be followed and come on back....ok?

Sounds like corporate mumbo jumbo to me. Apples and oranges. Too bad they didn't keep there promises to me that I would have company paid benefits for life when I hired in 31 years ago. In the meantime, the big guys still get outrageous wages and the little guys keep getting things taken away.

What do SEC laws have to do with the fact that five guys are gonna walk away with tens of millions of dollars, and workers here in Akron are gonna be out of jobs? Are you saying it would be against SEC laws for Keegan to sacrifice some of his $20 million or so a year to keep Goodyear employees out of the unemployment line?
