1 You ask a question "last hired first fired". Why do you think that there a down turn in jobs. Here a question that you can ask. Why don't you call Bobby Scott or Jim Webb and ask why they have put a stop to all drilling in this country. They are willing to use the Justice Deparment to sue oil produceing country to increase oil production to lower the price. How come the Daily Press will print trash but will not tell you why the cost of oil was a $133.00 a barrel today. They know the truth but they are backing such A S S holes like Bobby Scott and Jim Webb. These people have cause this problem but our local trash paper will not ask the question is why we need the oil production from other country to increase production . The answer is to lower the price of the oil. Do you think that these countries are going to increase oil production when they are getting $133.00 or more a barrel? They have got to be thinking the USA with all there oil in the ground all over our country that we are to stupid people on the face of the earth. We have let a party known as the Democrats to put our country over the edge. PEOPLE WE NEED TO WAKE UP AND REMOVE THESE PEOPLE NOW BEFORE THERE IS NOTHING LEFT. HIGHT GAS AND FOOD COST ALL BECAUSE WE LET THEM TELL US WHAT BEST FOR US. |

1 Had we been drilling in ANWR when it was first proposed back in 1994, guess what? We'd be 14 years into it, and we would have that supply. Every little bit counts. Every little bit hurts. It certainly would not pose a problem by drilling in ANWR. You know the old story The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? The Four Horsemen of the Energy Apocalypse, I'm going to tell you who they are: Bill Clinton. He vetoed ANWR, and he did everything he could as the leader of the Democrat Party to prevent any new exploration, discovery, and drilling of oil within the continental United States or Alaska. Mario Cuomo is the second of The Four Horsemen of the Energy Apocalypse. He shut down the nuclear plant in New York State. Just a total waste of money. It was ready to go online, he shut it down. The third member of The Four Horsemen of the Energy Apocalypse is Jane Fonda. The movie The China Syndrome is the single reason we don't have nuclear power, because of a scare tactic movie about a meltdown at a nuclear plant, that's why we don't have nuclear power here. The fourth member of The Four Horsemen of the Energy Apocalypse is up for grabs. You could throw John Muir in there, founded the Sierra Club, but I rather put Algore in there. How much longer are we to put up with the likes of the Democrats party? We can start now by voting all of them out of our lives and putting people there that will respect our wishes. |

1 What is your point here? We all know the Oil Cartel is a major player here. Perhaps, the private sector and building slow down is a reason as well for the about TOPIC. |

I'm sure you racist whites would love to shut me up; don't hold your breath - that is not going to happen. I have a right to comment on any forum I want. Maybe you are the one who needs to shut up and go away. Fool. |
It all depends on the department your in. There are still critical functions needed, however with the 'new construction' down, so to is the wholesale industry with plumbing, HVAC, and electrical. Just how it is, they don't have it as bad as Noland. Their corporate offices on 29th street down town next to the shipyard is closing completely! All jobs within Nolands corp. offices will be gone before winter. They were bought out by Winwholesale out of Ohio and are combining corp functions out of Ohio. Hundreds of branch personell have been laid off throughout the company as well. It's not a good market to be in currently, sales are waaaaaaay down. Its a boom economy dependent business. |

HG didn't you say that you are a Newport News City Employee? Didn't you say that your just biding your time until retirement? Is that not the same thing as you implied that Keyboard Commando, Stingray Point... are to Ferguson, that would make you the same thing to the City of Newport News, is that why they can't make or meet the budget because of 'fat' like you just sucking up taxpayers dollars waiting on retirement, being a racist on the net when you should be doing something to EARN your pay check, or do you think your entitled to it because your black and close to retirement. That's the way to think Mr. Human Resource Guy. |

1 I used to work for Ferguson as far as them caring for their people I think it is a load of crap. They have cookouts/company picnics and craft days for their employees and of course they allow them to decorate their cubicles for Halloween and Christmas and such and they seem to think this makes up for lying and treating their employees like crap. We would sit in these cubicles of about 6-7 people and they would have an assistant looking in over the people in their “pod” I called them the “pod masters”. I was hired through a temp agency so we had two weeks of in class training which was ok after 90 days if you produce what you are supposed to then they will hire you on permanently. In the training class that I was in there were only 3 people about 10 days into the training they let one of the young ladies go because they did not think she would fit in with the company which is fine but the way they did it was really shady and not that of a company that really cares about the people that work there. After the class was over for that day management waited till about 7, mind you this young lady had left all her stuff at her table for the next days training, called her and told her not to come back. I worked there for about 45 days I could tell that I was not going to like the job enough to stay on so I found another job. I went through the temp agency informing them that I was putting in my two week notice fine not a problem. The temp agency said well do you want me to talk to management I said no I can do it I am grown I don’t need you to hold my hand but if you want to be there that’s fine (temp agency was there handing out the pay checks for the week). So I went in to management she appeared to be a nice lady she helped teach the training class that I was in and we talked and occasionally took breaks together. So I tell her that I was putting in my two week notice because I found a job with greater opportunities for advancement but that I had enjoyed my time there. She smiled in my face told me what great work I had done how I would be missed and that if I ever wanted to come back there would always be a place for me. I leave her office go back to my pod finish out my day (I told them about 1:00 p.m.) and go home. I get a call around 8:30 p .m. from the temp agency saying that she (management) said I didn’t need to worry about coming back. Needless to say I was heated cause I had left all my personal belongings there expecting to finish out my two weeks. Then they told me they would box up my stuff and send it to me like I was going to go up there and go postal. I told them no it wasn’t necessary I would have the other young lady that was in the training class pack it up for me and I would go to her house and get it. They tried to make a big deal about that so I had to let them know that I did not want them touching my stuff and I would get it from my friend so they said ok. In short or not so short Ferguson is not a company that values its associates they even do the people that have been hired on permanently who have worked there for years the same way! |

1 Give Me a Break…the reason that I can form an educated opinion is because I am an educated person. The old saying goes you don’t have to eat a whole cow before you know you’re eating beef. And actually half of 45 would be 22.5 (and we were not in training for 22.5 days). If you need more than a month to learn your job and/or form and educated opinion of how things work then you are somewhat of an idiot and probably should find a less complicated job. And I understand that companies at times are forced to let people go. If you read my whole post or even just skimmed through the post appropriately you would know I was talking about the way Ferguson chooses to let its people go and I am talking about the ones that do a good job and put in an honest days work not the bad seeds. I have worked all over the world and have held different jobs for different companies and not 1 has ever punished someone for putting in a two week notice and continuing to work the rest of the day to be called at night and told not to return all because that person was working toward advancement and found a better job. Ferguson likes to employ sheep someone who is not going to question and doesn’t mind being treated any kind of way. Case in point the other lady that was in my training class was about 6 days from becoming permanent she had a disagreement with her “pod master” because he was talking to her like she was an 18 year old kid when in fact she was grown woman who was older than he was. She decided that they needed to go talk to management (the same lady that smiled in my face and acted so devastated that she was loosing such a hard worker) so that they could resolve the situation. After the meeting was over the young lady made it clear (to management) that she didn’t want to loose her job and that she enjoyed working for the company and that she wasn’t trying to rock the boat but that she didn’t like people talking down to her and treating her disrespectfully (as I am sure none of us does). Well management ensured her that she was certainly not going to be let go because she was a great employee. Well low and behold that night she got a call around 8 p.m. telling her that she was being let go because she wasn’t reconciling enough statements mind you she is 6 days from becoming permanent and this is the first she has been told that she is not reconciling enough statements (BS they saw that she was not going to be another sheep in the flock). That is not a company that has concern for its so called valued employees. I am so glad that you have enjoyed your over 7 years working at Ferguson hopefully you won’t be laid off in such a harsh manner for being such a dedicated and valued employee, because whether you see it or not there are those that have been! |
