Chicago alderman hopes to force vote to repeal foie-gras ban

Amen, about time something was done about this nonsense. I don't like Foie Gras- wouldn't eat it- but I will be damned if some collection of mediocre, currupt alderman (looking at you Burke, Tillman, Moore etc) should decide what i can and can't eat.

Every pansy liberal cries about Bush as a threat to civil liberties- but the biggest threat to liberty are city council like Chicago's trying to justify their jobs by thinking they can write a law to solve whatever problem they perceive

I am all for the protection of animals, but i was quite surprised
when i heard that the city put a ban on foie -gras. i didn't think they even sold it in the USA, because of what they have to do get the stuffed liver. I know they have to force feed the duck or goose until its liver expands,at least its done that way in france.

It's very sad and doesn't say much for people that they think so little of animal cruelty. Comparing outlawing cruelty to Bush's attacks on the Constitution is ridiculous.

The ban should stick. It's a grotesque "product," and the birds should never have been reduced to this vile and filthy practice. It just goes to prove that humans, given the right marketing , will eat anything, anyway, like carrion crows, bottom feeders.
Warehousing water birds indoors, force feeding them corn mash that starving kids might survive on, is an obscene waste of food, not to mention, perversly inhumane.... One look in a factory that makes this gruesome so called "delicacy," is enough to make any conscious person vomit.Tunney and his ilk are callous and have no place deciding matters of such cruelty. THey are only concerned with money. With SO many other healthier foods available, how dumb to make a stink about this awful product... LUNACY.

PLEASE stop calling it a "delicacy," as that perverts what it really is. If hepatic bird liver can be considered "culinary art," just because someone says so, and it has a sauce on it, perhaps cow manure can be saute'd and spiced and marketed to help get rid of the tens of billions of tons of it poisoning the air, water, land......

The best weird thing I ever ate was caribou fetus. Man you thought veal was tender and delicious, wait until you try that stuff, it's great!

I think that if you want to eat foie gras, you should have to produce and prepare it yourself. Same with all meats, if you can't kill it and skin it yourself, you can't eat it.

Foie Gras isn't good for you but it does taste very good. Every culture has something that other cultures find to be disgusting. Those that are anti Foie Gras really need to get a life! If you don't like Foie Gras, don't eat it! Just like abortion......don't like, don't have one!!! Yes, I'm invoking that example because THIS is a situation where a group of people are unreasonable trying to impose their value system on someone else.

Gas is over $4.00/gallon, Chicago has the highest sales tax in the country, more and more elected official are being investigated, the Cook County Board is being run by greedy crooks, and we are worried about foie gras?
This is a classic examplke why the city/county is in dire straights. How many hours has the city council wasted in this debate. We are big boys and girls. We are old enough to decide what is or is not good for us. I do not need a city council to tell me that eating raw food is dangerous. I need a city council that puts this energy into inflation, crime etc.
I cannot remember the comedian that uses the line, why the f*&! is this news?, but this is a great eample. Why is this on the front page?

Foie Gras is delicious. Time to join the rest of the world and get it back on our menus. If these animal rights nuts cared about humans as much as they do about birds, maybe we'd have our troops home right now.

Almost anytthing on the market is awful today. If anything, net caught shrimp should be outlawed. For every pound of shrimp pulled in, FIVE pounds of bycatch is also pulled in only to be dumped back into the water lifeless. Go whine about Applebees or Chilies. There's your issue.

The real farce is that Health Dept. resources are being used to enforce the ban. The rationale was NOT the health of the human consumer, but of the late goose or duck. Did someone get a disease eating the Joe Moore?

This is Chicago. I would be a little upset if we didn't have a good corrupt mayor. He's doing an acceptable job.

This ban was written by animal rights extremists and forwarded by the most out of touch Alderman in the city. There was no credible science behind the ban and little public discussion before it was voted on.

In total, the law was a mockery of city politics pandering to outside groups with little relevance to our city. It was trash.

The worthless Chicago aldermen could care less that people are getting gunned down on the south and west sides. But they have an enormous amount of time to spend saving the fatty geese!

It's not about not liking a food. It's about the fact that creating the "delicacy" involves torturing an animal. I'm against torture of animals when it's for something as stupid as food. Go eat other "delicacies" that don't involve hurting animals.

I'm a vegetarian myself, but I don't walk around saying, "Oh, you shouldn't eat meat!" to everyone I see who's eating a burger, etc. My problem with eating meat is the condition that animals are kept in so often in order to give people a tasty meal.

I think that it time for the good people of MA to mind their own business. We won't come there and tell you what you can and can not eat, and you will do the same. Just keep your nose in your own neighborhood before I have Ted Kennedy come and drive you to a restaurant of MY choice.

Unless these supporting aldermen are vegans, they are all hypocrites!!!
