All I can say is this better be the best park ever. You could have built a 20-story skyscraper on that site twice as fast as this. It's starting to really make Asheville look ridiculous.

These Pack Square Conservancy people really have no idea how to run a construction project. They first broke ground when, 3 years ago? Somebody, the city, the county - ANYBODY - needs to step in and take control of this project from this well-intentioned non profit that is completely unable to grasp the concept of sticking to a remotely reasonable timeline. Pack Park needs to GET DONE. The whole damn thing should have been mostly completed in 18 months, now they're saying just the next PHASE will take that long? Give me a f*ing break. And given their history, I would not be surprised if the final completion is pushed back by another year beyond that... with another round of excuses and hollow apologies to business owners.

Why don't you practice what you say? If you're striving to be smarter, it sure isn't showing, and it might help a little if you grow up. Are you playing hooky from school again today?

Or maybe the lunch crowd is down at Fiore's because the food is lame and the service is always horrible. Hard to say.

Why not just level the area out, throw down some grass seed and call it done? That would be better than what is there now.

The conservancy has no stake in finishing the project. By its very nature a beurocracy needs to feed upon itself to survive. We will see cost overruns, delays, change of contractor, and amended plans.

Expect the piece of crap fountain to be replaced at least once by a modified design that will add months to the projected completion date. We will probably also get stuck with paying for the fountains they decide to scrap, due to contracts.

They cound not care less about business downtown. It is all about this liberal pet project, that sucks up tax money ,and magicly gives nothing back. If city council were really business friendly they would step in and appoint a nuetral head to speed up the process.

If you were to talk to many of the downtown businesses, you will find the same story--sales are down, way down, some 50% or more. I don't think that restaurants can solely blame this project. The fact is folks are holding back on a few items: clothes, eating at restuarants because food prices are higher, and "luxury" items. Let's face it, if you really want to go to your favorite place to eat, one construction project is not going to stop you. Foot traffic in general is down mainly because not so many people want to spend close to $4.00 a gallon for gas and go out to eat. It's just a lot cheaper these days to go buy your groceries at Amazing Savings and cook for yourself. Granted this project has been long drawn out, but it seems a bit whinny to think that is why folks have cut down on walking into your restaurant.

I work downtown and do not go near Pack Square since the brilliant idiots decided to tear it up. It will never be the same. That area used to draw huge crowds for the downtown after 5 when it was there. It was a central meeting place in Asheville. Now everyone avoids that unsightly area like the plague and they have hidden downtown after 5 under the 240 overpass at Lexington ave. where all the crackheads hang out. The idiots have broken out of Broughton and are now running this town... into the ground!

I think the grass that is four feet tall looks great. The rotting straw sitting on the sidewalk is also a great place for people to sit and take a breather. This is much better than a fountain, or even a new building. Matter of fact, I think we should leave it and start a habitat for animals.
