If you want to buy high end you can but the everyday merchandise and produce is priced the same or lower than Giant and is of better quality. The service is better and the stores are cleaner.

Well, yeah, Grumpy, I HAVE shopped in a Wegmans. And I much PREFER a Wegmans. But don't say it's cheaper than a Giant. YOU haven't shopped there if you think that is the case. And POBO, if you don't care about Wegmans, there's always the option of skipping over the posts about it without comment.

faeryedark wrote: <quoted text>You make both of those sound like abad thing. Maybe you haven't noticed the bad economy. I'm a proud coupon clipper and penny pincher, and I love Giant and Weis. I got 6 Hersheypark tickets during Giant's Kraft promo the week before last for less than $140.00 out of pocket due to my "coupon clipping" and I got almost $400.00 worth of food. I'd rather clip coupons and penny pinch and be able to provie for my family, donate (and have some fun) than be using foodstamps. But hey, you can pay full-price. I guess somebody has to. Be sure you hit some of the cheaper rides at Hersheypark. The economy and all that, y'know.

And prices aren't really that different at Wegman's for similar items. The difference is that Wegman's offers all the same things Giant has, at similar prices, but also has many more items that Giant does not have, thus clearly giving the edge to Wegman's.

See, Lefty, that's just it. When is the last time YOU saw me use a name other than shotglass? I mean, it's hilarious. Pull out a post by me with another name. Please. Do it. The other guy DOESN'T have a point. He just thinks he's being cute.

While I don't agree with that guy on everything, like how over the top he goes, others and I do agree with him that it is pretty obvious you are also justin and bowker. So, he did have a point. I just don't see what the point of it is to post under a bunch of different names. You can either make your point or you can't, there's no need to make up different aliases to try to reinforce your argument. If it's strong, it will hold up by itself.

why are you people talking about Wegman's? If you want a Wegman's move to an area that has: a.) more people and b.) money. You'll pay higher taxes and live closer to culture, but you'll have your Wegman's. Now, I've made this clear many times. Wegman's will never, EVER come to this area. There is no market for it. We need a lot more stuff before we can support a Wegman's and that includes people and higher paying jobs. This is an agricultural/manufacturing community. There's nothing wrong with that. I could possibly see a Wegman's in the Hagerstown area, but even that's a stretch, especially with one in Mechanicsburg and Frederick. Let's look at some of the other things the Chambersburg area CANNOT support: any more restaurants. There are no liquor licenses left so everything from chains to sports bars, to casual sit-down restaurants and fine dining cannot, and will not, locate to Franklin County. There is no money available to spend on the arts or culture, so that's out. The county's only movie theater is an aging saltbox with sticky floors and 80's era screens. And the mall can barely stay open. Stores could locate there, buy why should they? People don't go and there is no incentives for development. Except maybe for Wal-mart... ugh. There are almost no kitchy, fun, hole-in-the wall eateries, boutiques or services. The few we do have struggle to stay in business. Ethnic food is limited to Pennylvania Dutch and Montezuma's. The only restaurant serving Indian food is empty, and Southeast Asian, REAL Greek and Spanish, and Middle Eatern food is not only non-existent, but would likely be met with resistence. The great taqueiria's downtown are considered a blight by the redneck majority. Home Depot backed out of plans to build a store despite a wide open market. Several of the pad sites that were ready for development at Chambersburg Commons backed out too. Olive Garden, which people think is Italian food and love for whatever reason, wanted to build near the mall or in the Commons... but Greene is dry and all the licenses are gone. Oh well. Greene is THE largest potential for development in Chambersburg. They have wide open, non agricultural land along the highway which could encourage commercial development that would service both our local area and traveling motorists. It would also substantially boost the local tax base. Where there is development, there is people and where there is people, there are more and better jobs. But Greene residents don't want it... they vote down abolishing the archaic dry status and fight development around the mall. I imagine that many of them enjoy drinks at the township's only exception... the Country Club. How convenient that you get to decide what and where we drink, but you've got your snooty club to drink at. Now that the economy is in the tank, there's nothign we can do. No one is expanding, no one is buidling. If you're an entrepeneur, or want to open your own restaurant... tell me, why the heck would you want to build in Chambersburg? And you think that we could support a Wegman's?

I find this post disturbing on many levels. And a bit hilarious. I don't even have anything against the Country Club... but you obviously missed my point (and drove it home, all at once). We need establishment... public establishment... that specifically don't attract the so-called "SCUMM" as you put it. It's simple too... all you have to do is make your place look nice. If it looks like Dilly's, you get Dilly's people. Simple as that.
