Magazine says Chambersburg Mall is endangered
Troubled: Chambersburg Mall is among three Pennsylvania malls on the list of the nations 10 most endangered, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Atrophy. A few department stores and too many schlock shops in the mix. The failing economy will ensure the mall's decline as a "perennial underperformer.

The mall is getting worse...how many hair salons and clothing shops does the mall need? Also, chbg mall has NO food court...it used to be awesome back in the 80's and 90's but no more...I often go to the Hagerstown valley mall for my mall shopping

They charge too much for rent and don't do enough upkeep. And as for "discounted retailers" perhaps they would've done better to get a T.J. Maxx than some stores (Boltons) that nobody's ever heard of.
Oh, and BTW, were's the customer service located now? I know there was a sign for where it moved to but I'll be darned if I can find it. Not too many people are gonna go on a wild goose chase to find it so they can buy gift cards and the like. |

I totally agree with the comment about customer service. So much for wanting to be visible for customers! You practically have to go on a hunt to locate it and they do not offer 1/2 the services they used to! It also no longer caters to children as the cars/wagons are gone! |

The mall is really bad. I do not go their at all. It was nice about 10-15 years ago. The mall has nothing to offer. I go to Hagerstown to do my shopping.

after value city and shenk & tittle, and a few other stores left, the mall basically fell on its face. and as someone had said above, its become a craft mall. too many hair/nail stylists indeed. alot of empty spots in there, no wonder noone wants to go there.

Another nail in the coffin for that place.
I don't think that report will be too attrative for any new prospective stores to move in. Anybody see tumbleweeds rolling across the parking lot yet? |

I live in chambersburg but very rarely go to the Dark and Dismal Mall. They have nothing there. I travel to Harrisburg or Frederick to get what I need. Close it down or do something positive with it.

Dear PREIT owners:
How about some worthwile cosmetic upgrades - like Crown American did years ago at Valley Mall less than 30 miles away? You know - pleasant environment, feeling of safety and security, nice furnishings in the public areas? At our Chambersburg "Shoe" Mall, the entrys smell funky, the building itself seems cheaply maintained, and the flimsy beat-up entry doors often stick when you try to enter. From that point on, things only get worse. I look for C-Burg's mall to close in the next 2 years. |

The C-burg sucks, about 15-20 years ago it had so many differnt stores but now it it so bare. Here are a few suggestions. Get a food court, bring in more stores for teens. I hear the malls rent is too high so that may be a reason why stores don't want to do business in the mall. Its a shame that we all have to travel to other towns to do our shopping but until the c-burg mall improves no one is going to go there. They have two stores that are worth going to Aero & AE.
