<quoted text> Since the election results of Nov. 3rd I haven't spent a dime in Ukiah- Saturday I drove to Corte Madera, shopped at Nordstroms and Crate and Barrel, then I stopped at Ashley Furniture in Rohnert Park on the way back and spent 1300.00+ on an entertainment center. Then we stopped at Seafood Willie's in Healdsburg for drinks and dinner. All told I spent about 2500.00 that supports Marin and Sonoma counties.
Who's gloating? Doesn't sound like you've moved on to me.

This is the hypocrisy I talked about in the other thread where 'resident' thought he could attack my character. I've read most of your rants during this whole thing and one of your biggest arguments was the loss of tax revenue for the county due to money spent south. Yet since A lost you're making a point now NOT to spend your money local. You even threw out the word Boycott in one of your other posts. How you do you use that as your argument in support of A one day, then contribute to the exact problem the next?

Remind us again why you still choose to live here Mike, honestly?

LOL, good one.

Came here in '78 as well but I didn't have a choice to move here as I was but a kid. As a young man I travelled the world or a better part of it anyway and chose to come back and stay here for many reasons.

BTW Mike, disco died a long time ago, you're now free to move about the country, or to Sonoma county anyway.

SOLE, or any other TRUE GROUND ROOTS MOVEMENT, as opposed to The Fake Ground Roots Movement of DDR's deign, has no responsibilities to the development of any PRIVATE PROPERTY! That is DDR's responsibility in this case. Suggested alternatives for site use as per the current zoning is SOLE's responsibility. To suggest to the public and the voters the possibilities of these alternatives is SOLES's responsibility! If DDR can't afford to do this project without Measure A then they can only talk through controlled, brainwashed, one horse minions like you and your complaining friends. If the DDR site is a mess for years to come remember only DDR can clean it up. THEY OWN IT! THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE BUYING! THEY DID DUE DILIGENCE! So, give them a call and complain!!!! Write Letters! Form a Ground Roots Movement and make it happen! But you will NOT do that because you want to be angry with someone nearby whom you can lay blame on for your own lack of ability to GET IT DONE! It is time for you to make an investment in this community of your time, energy and resources and get this site cleaned up by DDR if that is your beef. But you will not INVEST. Every time YOU DRIVE BUY MASONITE and it is a mess you will blame someone else and forget to remember that YOU DID NOTHING! SO LIVE WITH IT!!! Your lack of accomplishment is astounding! Your Complaints Ring Hallow and Your leadership and Community Values are WEIRD and SUSPECT!
Dipstick! I was responding to the statements made by Shoemaker regarding have "lots of plans for the sight for green industry"....when he is nothing but a blowhard! When I challenged you with the coming up with the money to truly bring this so called "industry" to Ukiah, well you went sideways. I stand by my previous statement. As for what I personally am worth and where I invest my $$, they remain none of your business. And I just quite buying locally for anything because of this little effort made to control what others do with what they own. Have fun watching this town become a sinkhole!

Thank you, but I already knew that...but your refrain of "Ukiah, love it or leave it" sounds strangely like the refrain of "America, love it or leave it" that was popular during the Vietnam war in rebuttal to those who questioned authority.

DDR's plans were CONCEPTUAL, the plans put forth by SOLE were visionary prospects.
What? Visionary prospects? What the heck is that? There was a slide show of some photos of other eco parks, and some guys got up there and talked about their current companies in the area, but I did not see one bit of information on what was planned or even their vision of what could be. At least DDR had a 320 page document that had many details, guidelines, etc... with 3 drawings of possible placements of buildings. They had letters of intent from specific stores. What did SOLE have? A visionary prospect. OK... let's go with your term. Visionary... yep... still a vision. Prospect... sure, why not. That means nothing to anyone. I have a vision of making this site into the next Google type company. They will be a start up, based on computer technology and it will employ 1,293 people, in all ranges of salary from $20 per hour to $400,000 annual salaries. It will be the most beautiful buildings in the county, using 100% green building and technology. How's that for a vision? Does that get us any closer to having something positive out there? NOPE.

So SOLE is disbanding. They were there to cause confusion, promote fear and defeat the evil corporation from Cleveland. Great job... but did they help the county with their budget issues, or get us any closer to helping the 10% unemployed? NOPE.

Time for some solutions, not more fighting.

SOLE defeats the evil DDR from Cleveland Ohio in a landslide Victory, and the town folk think this was a great victory, and great for the community, and the Zen Master says, "We'll see".

A year later, the county finally finishes the UVAP, and decide to keep the Masonite Site zoned for industry and those high paying jobs. The town folk are happy because this opens the door for industry. The Zen Master Says "We'll see."

After 2 years, a Meat packing plant buys the property from DDR and applies for building permits - since the land is zoned for industry. The meat packing plant opens for business and hires 250 locals at a decent wage. The town folk are happy that an employer had moved into town, but really don't understand the implications of a meat packing plant (the smell)... and the Zen Master says..."You'll see."

Those that doubt this could happen... need to take a closer look at the issue. Good luck... and we'll see.

Yea I figured you knew that, you seem like a SMRT guy.

And thanks for the history lesson. I'm certainly not telling you to leave Ukiah, instead just curious why you chose to stay in a place you refuse to support, can't agree with political views, think businesses are overpriced, rude and provide poor service, and feel the town scenery is unattractive just to name a few things you've mentioned. By all means, stay where you're not happy, makes sense to me... well not really.

Don't think I didn't notice your avoidance of the REAL issue either. You know... the hypocritical part? Yea... that.

By the way, Todd Schapmire is Shoemaker's realtor, tell Jeff Adams about the property. I'm sure he would enjoy drivng the D9 that would level it.
I'm not into pot at all and I defintiely am not into the "corporate Life" as you put it. America didn't used to be about the quarterly report and greed. It used to be about individualism, enterprise, freedom, choice and demcoarcy. We once believed in the old golden rule of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Not the new golden rule of "he who has the gold rules".
The corporate life as you put it has recked havoc on hardworking Americans putting them out of work so stuff can be made cheaper off shore. The Amercian working class has been removed from the equation of American wealth generation by the promoters of the corporate life. I bet you thought Bush was wonderful and everything he did to make life easier for corporations was great too.
Lastly, why do you stay in this "hell hole" as you put it? To torture your wife. You must be spineless if you don't get out or are you stuck in the dream/nightmare your coporate life has brought you? One more thing, if you squint your eyes and look at the corporate life it looks a lot like socilaim, maybe even communism. Are you a coproate pinko? Good Luck you sorry being.
Hey hey hey….. why would you bring religion into this discussion? No one can keep up with the topic at hand more or less religion! The whole thing is just getting DUMB!!!

What type of green business would move in....if they had to ship or receive anything it would have to come up by truck, is that green?
Their employes would have to drive cars (not much public transportation).

i guess a park would work, hard to get greener than that...

Another statement that's untrue is that the ball is in DDR's court. In light of 4 out of 5 county supes stating they would oppose any mixed use development on the Shoemaker Park site DDR's hands will be tied for years to come regarding the future of Shoemaker Park...it will sit as a monument to the victory of the no growth advocates from SOLE for 20 more years, just like it is, with concrete blocks and rebar as its flora and fauna.
Whatever, the people have spoken and some of the bigger idiots continue to gloat over the election results, but I'm over it and my shopping habits will remain almost unchanged, even if Ukiah can find a tenant for its 4.6 million dollar property by the airport. I live in the unincorporated county and my business is in the unincorporated area, and without a tax sharing agreement in place it doesn't benefit me to shop in Ukiah; indeed, Sonoma County more closely mirriors my own political beliefs much more than the Mari Rodins, Clifford Palins and Phil Baldwins who are so prominent in Ukiah politics, and I cannot, in good faith, support people so opposite of what I feel responsible community growth and planning SHOULD be.
Since the election results of Nov. 3rd I haven't spent a dime in Ukiah- Saturday I drove to Corte Madera, shopped at Nordstroms and Crate and Barrel, then I stopped at Ashley Furniture in Rohnert Park on the way back and spent 1300.00+ on an entertainment center. Mendo Mike, DDR OWNS THAT DOG PROPERTY! THE BALL IS ONLY/ALWAYS IN DDR's COURT! STUPID IS STUPID! HEY MENDO DORK, DDR WILL SELL THE PROPERTY , THEY ARE NOT STUPID! THEY ARE NOT A BILLION DOLLAR CORP FOR NOTHING! PUT TOGETHER A GROUP AND BUY THE DOG! LOSE YOUR 40 MILLION $. Put your money where your mouth is. Respectfully, DDR did that, perhaps with your advice. They are OUT. Heads will roll! Poney up your 40mil. I hope your paycheck is good from DDR. If NOT, DON'T CALL US!!!! Call them. YOU have NO FRIENDS HERE!!!!!!!!

I refuse to support Ukiah until there is a tax revenue sharing agreement in place, or until the lure of a California Roll at OcoTime trumps my political protest.

I disagree with Ukiah on a political level, both from personal experiences dealing with their planning dept. and a philosophical difference of opinion, and as an example look at the purchase of land at the expense of peoples' jobs. That sums it up nicely- land speculation at the expense of jobs? Sorry, I believe that is wrong.

Downtown businesses ARE expensive and have less inventory than stores elsewhere. I owe it to my wallet to shop smart and resent roadblocks and speed bumps erected just to limit my choice, and will shop Sonoma just on principal alone. Oh, and I still shop those Ukiah merchants I've gotten great service from in the past- DFM, Mendocino Cabinets, Ukiah Paper and many other Ukiah businesses have been great vendors and I have no intention of cutting off my nose to spite my face.

And Ukiah being a lovely community? You can play the Emperor Has New Clothes all you want, but Ukiah is just about the ugliest, worst laid out small town there is in all of California.

Why am I here? Because I choose to be here. The fresh air, the scenery, the forests and the coast are unique among the world and this is the most beautiful place I've ever been. I had to leave for several years because of the lack of economic opportunity available here, but I don't depend on the local economy for my income now and I can live wherever I want. I choose to live here.

That sums it up, except the hypocritical part- The hypocrisy is people moving up here for the freedom this place affords, then getting some political clout, and using that clout to bend the will of the citizenry at the furtherance of their own agenda. I'm not the hypocrite here- the people who moved up here when I did, people seeking acceptance and the freedom to be themselves, who now attempt to tell us how to live and even where to shop, are the hypocrites.

You failed to respond to my previous post where I chided you for being so foolish as to think DDR was going to build you a Costco. Or anything else. That is what you don't get. A vote FOR Measure A was a vote to look at the Masonite slab for years to come.

And you are wrong. The ball IS in DDR's court. They own the property. It is there choice to decide if they want to:
A.) develop the property consistent with its zoning;
B.) apply for a General Plan and Zoning Code Amendment;
C.) sell the property;
D.) throw a hissy fit like Mendo Mike, spin in circles and squeal "I did not get my way so I will make you look at this slab for the next twenty years."

You also fail to recognize it was a consensus of community and civic leaders countywide who opposed Measure A. Not just the few like Shoemaker and Baldwin you have a hard on for.

And remember, if you are shopping at a county business, the owner may live in the city. The owner and employees of that business may shop in the city spending the dollars you placed in their hands. The horror! To guard against that outcome, and to be consistent with your beliefs of punishing everyone who voted the wrong way, you need to boycott all County businesses.

I really love the way all you right wingers said "What could be more democratic than to let the people vote?" but now that they have and you don't like the result, you want to punish everyone. How childish. How immature. How you.

Truly, the only reasonable move for you is to Santa Rosa where you will be much happier.

Are you calling DDR a liar? They said they contributed 100% of the money for the Yes on A campaign, that they did not receive one dollar from anyone local. And the idea that MCT is a real organizational is ridiculous. They were created and funded by DDR. But you seem prone to swallowing any hook, line and sinker that DDR wishes to cast your way.

Daily Horoscope for December 3

Capricorn

With dark Pluto under pressure in your sign, this rather grave mood has been colored by the current state of a relationship. It isn't going as well as you would like, probably because you're feeling distanced. It's an inward-looking phase, full of obstructions, but best not to worry about things that might never happen, nor to stew about problems that are little more than ancient history. It's the festive season, so raise the cup of kindness and help those less fortunate than yourself.
