My heart goes out to all who are stuck in the downward spiral that is Bridgeport. Those who find themselves lacking options and facing ruinous taxes need more help than a clueless lackey like Bill Finch can dream of providing. We need some serious changes in leadership to pull out of this nasty, and seemingly hopeless spiral.

Assesed value that is just their opinion they should be looking at market comps but that would put a bigger dent in their pockets while making less of a dent in ours. Wish I could run my business as they do theirs just arbitrarily raise some clients and lower some others what a racket. Wish rico laws applied to govt functions.

I appreciate that homes (houses, property) is supposed to rise in value and things an owner does to his property should add value to that property; but my fear is that those who raise our taxes on such property think they are getting a better deal for city costs--this is not necessarily true. You raise my taxes--if I stay and want to continue living here, which most do still I believe--then I will cut elsewhere...spending "in the city" will decrease because I can't afford the "quality of life" opportunities in the area--my kids can't go on the field trip or buy school supplies (which I am not supposed to be paying for anyway--I have always wondered where the class action suit against the city/state by parents for having to pay for some of the free education?--I don't eat out as much, nor do I buy in the local stores as much. Raising proptery taxes might help pay for the 62K secretary, but such increases might and often do not have the city's best interest in mind.

Corrections Department
a few statements attributed to me are technically incorrect
1)Vision Appraisal did an accurate physical assessment on my home in the late summer - correcting the earlier 5 year old assessment which included the unlivable attic as living space as well as some other errors as well as the covered patio which was removed due to the oil tank removal as condition of sale last winter.
2) I attended but did not "Share my story" at the meeting at Harborview Market
My concern with the assessments continues despite the recently made favorable adjustment.
While Vision Appraisal can not be responsible for errors in the historical physical assessment (sq ft, ammenities, etc) where homeowners don't provide access to do so, there should be very clear and transparent process and assumptions that get to the valuation of the properties.
In my case the earlier re-assessment assumed a 15.5% increase in value in my home in less than 6 months in a down economy. An outcome that begs the accruacy and thoroughness of the entire process.
In addition when my appraisal was fixed to a more reasonable level were my neighbors for whom the purchase price on my home should have established a clear market price basis for their assessments also favorably adjusted?
Vision Appraisal and the City of Bridgeport still own homeowners a better answer than they have given.
