Realtors are a big problem. The commissions are nuts for the work they do. Have bought and sold 3 houses and always something wrong with the work by the realtors. One even had to replace my abstract. Burnett, Coldwell and Remax, nothing to write home about.

Prices have been getting out of hand for a long time, its the stupids that went along and now find themselves in the pickle.

"The problems range from investment losses and economic insecurity among potential buyers to limited access to the jumbo mortgages often used to purchase upper-bracket properties, those who sell upper-end homes say."

The article's author should have also listed this little disincentive:

Property taxes on the two listed mentioned in the article:

1135 Summit Ave -$9,056
955 Summit Ave -$19,308

This is unsustainable and unconscionable that there are houses this big. They should be divided into apartments and used to house the poor and at-risk. Using a guideline of 5 square meters per person, about 200 people should be living the the 14,000 square foot house!

The article also fails to mention what person in their right mind would buy a home in St Paul with commies running it. Taxes are through the roof, crime is rampant, and all the politicians want to do is spend and tax more. Rich people are not stupid, why would they move into an environment like this>

Mrs. R - How much of YOUR house do you loan out to the poor and at-risk? How much of YOUR 'riches' do you give to help those in need?

Do you really think anyone trying to sell a million-dollar home needs sympathy? Chumps.

Speaking of trolls under bridges, it must be awfully crowded under the "Obama Is a Socialist/Marxist/Communist " Bridge.

Having worked in the past as a real estate agent let me explain the commission. Most realtors who are under a couple million in sales get paid 50% or less of the their side of the commission. The two major sides are the seller agency and the buyer agency. Usually the sellers agency receieves some where over 1/2 the commission and the buyer agency receives the rest. The individual agents recieve part (50%) of what their agency receives. Out of that the agent normally has to pay for the sign out in front of the house, most if not all the advertising, and their travel expenses, plus license fees, realtor association and MLS dues, yearly Continuing Education required classes, etc.
The ones really making the money here are the agencies, most individual agents have something else going (rental property, another job) that keeps them going.

Don't make the mistake of buying an expensive house that is now being sold for a song.

Because I can guarantee that the property tax won't be lowered. It's outrageous what municipalities and counties are assessing houses as being worth just so they can get more money.

the article should have reviewed the property tax trend in St. Paul - they're taxing people out of their homes and they're fed up.

DUH! That is the most stupid headline I have ever seen! Does the writer think only the average working person has to watch how money is spent?
