Froth flotation is perhaps the most widely used method for mineral separation and concentration. Feeding of collectors and regulators is necessary for transferring the maximum quantity of minerals to the froth. The importance of pH level during the process for mineral quality, process yield and chemical efficiency is well recognized. What is less well known is the relevance of the zeta potential of the pulp. The zeta potential affects suspension stability; too low and flocculation occurs leading to poor selectivity in flotation, too high and the suspension remains stable.
