As term wanes, will Bloomberg maintain composure?

One day two winters ago, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, just back from an overseas trip, traveled to Albany to testify at a key fiscal hearing.

He is an arrogant, obnoxious egomaniac who I cannot wait to see go off into the sunset never to be heard of again. This carpetbagging billionaire bought his office so he could boss the entire city around instead of just his employees.

Why bother holding press conferences when the media has decided their spin before it even begins?
Same liberal talking points - day after day..

Drop your personal agenda against Mike. Danny boy you should write the funnies at this point.

You cannot make a story out of nothing. No one outside of Nebraska, with the exception of Erik, knows what you mean.

This had become borderline bizarre.

Exactly what is the news story here? That Bloomie is human? Is Dan Jansion sticking up for his buddy Michael Frazier? Sure, I agree with Bloomberg that "maintain", the way it was used here does insinuate a lie. Note that I am neither a Bloomberg fan nor apologist, but a bit annoyed that this story was run as news. Maybe I am jet lagged?:-D

First, Bloomberg wanted to tax cigarettes, and I didn't speak up because I don't smoke...then he wanted to tax cars, and I didn't speak up because I don't drive...then he wanted to tax beer, and I didn't speak up because I don't drink...then he wanted to tax pizza, and I didn't speak up because I don't care for the stuff...then he wanted to tax ME, and there was ABSOLUTELY NOBODY LEFT, to speak up for me! Somebody stop the crazy, self-righteous, ego-maniac before he destroys what's left of NYC! The hands-down, gold-medal-winner, of the WORST MAYOR IN NYC HISTORY CONTEST!!

He's got his flaws and excesses, but basically the man has done a terrific job as mayor. I guess it's necessary to tear him down about personality quirks because he's done so well otherwise.

At least, unlike Bush, he will leave his charge better off than when he took office.

I hope he runs for governor.

This is a crusade by one reporter who wants to stick up for his buddy in a thinly veiled attempt to make a story out of nothing.

Please write about real stuff that people care about.

I cant wait till the editorial staff at Newsday is replaced. The new staff should share the values of the people in Nassau/Suffolk county, period.

Newsday is so completely out of touch with the middle class they probably dont even know how despised they are.

Circulation down 100,000's in the last few years ? No need to ask why, the new owners can reverse it very easily if they identify with the majority who live here.

Despite all this Newsday reported an $80,000,000 paid by us, Long Islanders.

Maintain - to sustain against opposition or danger : uphold and defend. Maybe this is the definition he was thinking of? Not sure.

Good for him!!! God Bless Bloomberg all the more.

As long as the mayor, or for that matter, a governor, or president does his or her job, and doesn't get physical, then he or she has every right to verbally defend themselves against being backed into a corner. It's call integrity, and not just bowing to disrespect because it's assumed that because you're elected to public service you can't have everyday emotions.

Mike's right. The transitive verb “maintain” is often used regarding assertions of truth. Take as an example the sentence "She maintained her client's innocence even in the face of damaging evidence.". Clearly, the intent of the person questioning the mayor has something to do with this. I think the mayor was awake enough to pick up on what was being insinuated by the questioner.

Why do politicians have to tear other people down? Why do the Newsday editors let such crap be published?

This story is a waste of time, just like Bloomberg. He's an elitist who does not give a crap about the middle class, education, or the working man.

Emperor Bloomberg is probably still upset that he couldn't force the hoi polloi off the streets of Manhattan with his billionaire friendly congestion pricing plan.

His Highness cannot be blamed for being irritable when dealing with little people who use words He objects to. He is a billionaire, and therefore Righteous.

(Go to hell Bloomberg, you hypocritical limo liberal nasal swine.)
