A Machinists union strike has hurt The Boeing Co. 's reputation and threatens the nation's aerospace industry with a fate similar to that of automakers in Detroit, Chief Executive W. James McNerney said Monday.

The union is going its best to assure the demise of Boeing and their jobs. When the rank and file realize this, the orders will already be in the hands of Airbus, the plants shut down or moved overseas, and their union will be offering them brochures on how to apply for unemployment, where the closest community colleges are, and how to apply for jobs as pizza boy deliverers. For proof, just look at Detroit.

Why did you executive clowns move your headquarters away from the shop floor to a city where nothing is being built? I suppose you couldnt help yourself with all the backslapping and under the table dollars that Chicago is known for. I bet you all gave yourself raises as well with the move. Give your working men and women that put the Boeing name in the air everyday a fair deal and move yourself back to where your aircraft are made. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to see you left your common sense in Seattle.

It's George Bush's fault. Had he signed the Kyoto treaty, airliners would have been banned and carbon emissions reduced.

Once again, Corporate executives earn millions off of workers efforts and then, when the execs want even more, they move the work to a foreign country and claim it's to "maintain our competitiveness" or "we're in a competitive environment"; however, the "our" and "we're" don't apply to anyone other than those at the very top. How many tax breaks (i.e. shifting of tax burden onto workers) were given to Labinal? Don't know? Ask your local representatives; they're SUPPOSED to work for you.

As for the auto industry; did the workers decide the surburban and the excursion were to be the cash cows of the industry? Did the workers decide to outsource major components?(ever had little parts break on a big vehicle?) It's not the workers that are the problem; it's executive arrogance over intelligence! It's happened in Detroit, it's happening in Seattle, and it's happened on Wall Street and just now America is waking up.

No problem, juse move the rest of the assembly process to Mexcio and kill what's left of America's unions and the American dream. Clinton signed NAFTA {built the coffin} and Bush brought out the nails and hammer. All that's needed now is for the nails to be driven home.
Face facts - Americans, you've been sold out - lock, stock and no assembly required!

What Boeing needs to do is tell the UNION take the offer or we are going to terminate all the UNION employees and abolish the UNION.. Then turn around and tell all the past employees that if you want to work "NO UNION!!".. OR better yet get a court order and force the the employees back.. UNIONS have destroyed America and will continue until Companies stand up to them!!

It is absolutely incredible that Boeng employees would go on a strike during the economic meltdown and worst recession in recent memory.

Let them try to replace the union workers, not only is it stupid but it would bankrupt the company before they could produce the first airplane. We are not talking about a couple hundred people but 27,000 that were already on the workforce but several hundred more in training. It takes years to learn the trade and be able to produce a safe product, remember these are not cars they carry hundreds of people 30,000 feet off the ground.

Well when the government allows a company like Boeing to buy up and devour McDonnell Douglas, essentially creating a total monopoly on US commercial aircraft production in this country, is this a shock?

When you only have one company to buy from, if that company has problems, the entire industry will falter.

I think it's absolutely terrible that no one is out there but Boeing. No Lockheed, no Mc Donnell Douglas, nothing anymore. US manufacturing is going down the tubes.

I have little sympathy for either Boeing, or those strikers. We don't need this stupidity during this economic crisis! Get a deal and get back to work!

You are correct, is it time for the union workers to STOP paying dues ! The unions have outlived their usefullness. They are destoying American families thru strikes. NO PAYCHECk for strikers to bring home. Yet the union bosses always get paid.

Perhaps it is time to check out robotics. The bots would not go on strike. Since this is not possible, and I cannot believe that it takes years to learn the trade. What does the learner do in order to get a paycheck during the learning years ?
Replacements can & would be found, so many trades men out of work, they would leap at the opportunity to get a job creating SAFE planes. This is not as complicated as brain surgery, now is it ? Ohterwise, these jobs will be outsourced & the workers will be out of a job, permanently.

Well maybe not quite as complicated but close. It only takes a small tool mark in the wrong place and the airplanes lifetime could be reduced significantly hopefully without tragedy.
And as for robotics you should tour Boeing facilities they are already full of them and of course operated and maintained by UNION employees.
And thirdly the new hires in training make 40% of what the experienced mechanics make, it takes 6 years to reach full pay that was a concession that the UNION gave the company about 20 years ago. It use to be 2 years and you started at 75%.
I can tell you that Boeing can't even get people to hire on now because the starting wage is below that of most any other blue collar jobs. Renton factory alone was 5000 jobs behind before the strike mostly because they could not hire enough people at the wages they offer to fill the jobs. They were working thousands of hours overtime a week just to meet deliveries but they were losing the battle and when the strike started they were going to miss deliveries to the customer and that is the 737 their best selling A/P. The 787 problem is a whole different story it is years behind because Boeing chose to build it overseas and the companies did not have the experiance to produce the product so let them try and outsourse all of it.

I guess you havent worked in Europe before, 35-36hr work weeks depending on what country your in. Executives make half the amount that is paid here in the USA. Belgium is having a countrywide 24hr strike right now as we speak.I will put an american worker up against anyone in the world.
I know because Ive spent the last 5 years working all over the world.

Hello! wake up America. does anyone know what kills American jobs?

Well corporate taxes! and labor burden.

But what you all hear that tax break to the rich coporate CEO only help the Roch powerful CEOs. That is FAR from REALITY. Higher taxes and labor burden drive the CEOs to move to other countries. Yes, and WE LOSE OUR JOBS. Who loses? NOT the CEO but the workers! Hello! anyone there????

OK, Now you all (lambs) go ahead and vote for Obama that is pledging to stick it to the Rich corporations.
