To Quest:

I recently went to Tonga this summer and I just back last week. I don't know if you've been there or not but if the people of Tonga could leave the country freely there wouldn't be anyone there to be called Tongan other than the royal family and nobles (not even sure if they would either). Tonga is fakaofa because the government there keeps the people down with the damn monopolies and hypocricy. Your comment about the new movement leaving Tonga if they don't like the government is a comment I see a ignorant person saying. There is a demand for Akilisi Pohiva to be there. The people demand that there be a movement and to have someone that represent them. The newer generation of the royal family doesn't represent the people and would see out Tonga to foreigners like whores to make a penny. The people of Tonga deserve to be paid a decent wage to at least eat and when the royal family with their noble familys get to live in their big houses and eat more than three meals a day a little kid in Tonga eat onces a day. I think you should go to Tonga before you open your fat mouth and diss Akilisi Pohiva for his work. It's pretty ignorant of you to speak for yourself and not care about your own people. Please read the news and ask your family in Tonga what is really going on in Tonga. Kids are taught to dream and to think big and get educated and all they have to choose from is working in the tourism industry, government or selling Tongan goods at the market. What opportunities has our beloved Princess Regent given to our people. You did say one things that wasn't so stupid and that yeah the earth quake isn't going to stop...the Tongan people will have representatives to represent the Tongan people's need. I feel sorry for you and I am sad you call yourself a Tongan cause you misrepresent our people.

To Oregon,
Thank you for that loud statement. People like QUESt are so used to our old customs or tradition in Tonga that once someone stands up to voice our Tongan citizens concerns they quickly accuse them for disrespecting the royal family without seeking the people/person behind the problem. As a Tongan, living here in Hawaii, there is a great concern for my love ones in Tonga. One of the reason why I'm here in America is to work and help my family in Tonga. I am happy for people like Akilisi who was appointed by the people to represent their needs. I must agree that while the royals eat, sleep without a stress about how or plainly how to survive the week. I hope and pray that in the future our love ones will suffer less and know that their is something better for them at the end of the journey. I will always try to support our people for the better. So quest, shut your big loud mouth. We're commoners here seeing the same thing all the time.

The Royal family aren't super beings. They are human like me and you. Even HRH Pilolevu knows that the country must change because she is coming under fire as well for the poor state the country is in, even though here in NZ she owns a 2-3 million dollar house in remuera. She is just trying to make it look good for herself now that there is so much pressure from the people.
Now Akalisi and co. Don't start hating on them because they are strong enough to stand up to the Royals and say what the people are feeling. You morons who are hating on the people calling for reform must like seeing people at the dump in tonga scavenging, or pigs and dogs roaming the streets even in Town. Wake up. Tonga is not ok. It needs to change. Even HRH Pilolevu said they expected the foreign aid to decrease but it hasn't after all unrest over conditions in Tonga. There has to be change whether you like it or not. it's going to happen.

Thats just it love, everybody should be able to care for themselves. Who cares for the common people back home? The postion of King is indeed a hard postion BUT wouldn't a King want to see his country and it's people prosper? All I've seen is the Royalty and Nobility prospering from foreign aid and the buisnesses they run making millions, millions which should have gone back into the country's infrastructure. Did it? No it went into a mansion on a hill with marble floors, a mansion here in remuera, numerous flights around the world for health check ups. If the hospital back home is so good why don't the Nobles and Royalty go there for there check ups or to recieve care? Because it's 3rd world and doesn't have the necessary facilities.
I'm fine love, I know how it is. Are you ok? Living in your dream world?

You have a point. But Tonga does not need to lose those core customs and traditions such as Church and Faka'apa'apa. Those customs are what makes Tongan people good.
But the system still has to change. So many people in Tonga have no future. It's all good for the select few who are born into families that already own or run buisnesses. But what of the rest? They deserve a chance too you know?

We also have to understand that Church and Faka'apa'apa is not only practiced in Tonga alone. We live in a counter culture world, and everyone of us is unique. Respect is earned not given. Yes, we were brought up to respect our elders and especially to our King, but if you take a good look at how things are conducted back home, wouldn't you feel some sympathy for your love ones? I must agree that being the King is hard, but again, there is a God. He is after all a human being. That doesn't make the rest of us any different. Unlike those of us here in America who have the right to vote, we don't have that priviledge in Tonga. To Maunaloa I qoute, " 'oku mou o mai 'o nofo masiva 'i Hawaini".'Ai pea tuku 'ae 'ulu hae'i. I was born here in the US and that doesn't mean we could go around trying to make people feel less by implying that they're fresh in Hawaii. From what I've read from you, I regret to say that you seem like a very selfish person. You should appreciate those who are trying to make a better impact on our government or people.
