BIG OIL -- little neighborhood http://www.katc.com/Global/story.asp... Murphy Oil's large industrial business looms over a small Meraux, Louisiana residential neighborhood, so the insistence that the refinery simply comply with their air permits will have an immediate and significant improvement on the quality of life in this peaceful community. While disappointed and frustrated by the lack of results and discouraged with the ambiguous (at best) communications from Murphy, the neighborhood association hopes to resolve this situation in an amicable matter. As a last resort, the residents' advocacy group will pursue this citizen's enforcement of the refinery's permit violations through federal court. After mother nature's worse hit and the worse residential crude oil spill, we restored our homes and revitalized our community; rebuilding stronger, safer and smarter. So too, heavy industry(s) that returned to do business in St Bernard Parish are expected to make the proper repairs, rebuild and perform on a safer and more responsible level.

Michael Obrien was fired from CircleK. Mr Obrien is now a director for Murphy Oil Co. Maybe someone should investigate why this man was fired from his previous employer. He's not to be trusted!!

What's funny about people near this refinery complaining is, the refinery was there first. People built homes near a refinery and then complain they live near it....

for Namer in El Dorado, AR growing up in that neighborhood, we never had processing units in our backyards as the refinery doubled in the 1970's and constructed more units in 2003 with its so called clean fuels process. Shortly after the crude oil spill of Katrina, Murphy applied for the Army Corp of Engineers letter of no objection to expand its tank farm in a lower lying area, adjacent to yet another established residential neighborhood. Repeating its same mistakes of tank farms and processing units adjacent to established residential neighborhoods and being well informed of their residential neighbors, Murphy Oil took advantage of the unfortunate zoning situation which allows for, at a minimum, a mere 100 feet buffer. Murphy Oil chose to add more toxic air pollutants and explosive hazards to our neighborhood, instead of being a responsible corporate citizen. Now Murphy must realize they will have to do more than what may be the norm in this industry to protect public health and safety than other refineries that are properly buffered from people. Murphy Oil will have to go beyond the requirements of the law and not just their own Murphy Oil's Law.

Yeah yeah everyone wants to drive their cars and buy thousands of items packaged in plastic but heaven forbid if a company wants to make that possible for you. Get rid of your car, stop buying anything that was made from or shipped with oil and then you can bitch about living near a refinery. If you don't like it, move. It's a free country.

there's a change coming to this neighborhood that Murphy Oil is not telling us about and it will have a drastic change to our lifestyles; its the same neighborhood that was assured the crude oil didnot travel south into their area, into their homes. Murphy Oil could be a good neighbor, but choses not to

To Charlmette, LA...
Spare us on the extremist viewpoints. Sell your cars, quit buying goods preserved in platic wrap,, and cut out smoking. Companies are in business to create products that consumers, such as yourselves, use to make life a little more easier. If people quit buying these goods, companies, such as Murphy, would not be in business. You figure it out. Do something about it, or stop complaining...
