Just funny how we are constantly cutting payroll on our retail stores to ensure our glorious leader get's his $4.7m a year from our hard work and efforts.
The more he makes the more the company has to cut back hours for employees and do lay offs, but Mr Duncan went and bought himself his second luxury yatch.
Thanks Mr Duncan for not paying out store bonuses, for not giving out raises or cost of living increases, thank you for switching health benefits that cost twice as much as our old one, and mainly thanks for your daily exploitation of your workers so that you would be able to pocket your millions.

I have to agree, they fired all of the impress district managers, one quarter of the store district managers, and now over half of the assistants and the key carrying supervisors will be gone as of June 26th. Tell me Mr. Duncan how do you sleep at night? Also, my district manager informed us that we are no longer allowed to give out raises, or higher any full time associates without his prior approval. Oh yeah, and they are going to cap hourly wages too. Go Team!

Understanding the basics of CEO's & Retail organizations, no-one should be suprised when they get the screws put to them as individuals. Had I known this 14 years ago, I never would have gotten into Retail. I'm sure everyone feels the same. Unfortunately it sucks you in, you stay for years working your butt off ("Taking it to the Max") and ("Taking Care of Business"), then job titles get re-alligned and re-named,you either get layed-off, or if you're lucky you get to re-apply and your wage gets cut. All this so some Company jumping CEO can suck the Life-Blood out of each company they work for. Of course, they only stay a couple of years with each one!!
Awe, such is Retail!! Also, let's hear it for the Big Wigs who come up with Laim Brain programs using radios. It would be effective if there were actually other associates to talk to on the salesfloors!! These companies use these radios to run the one person ragged that they DO have scheduled that day.(Don't forget how much these guys get paid for their innovative ideas!!)

I've been with Office Depot for quite a while. Same church, different pew! At least in today's economy, I have a job that I acutally like (for the time being). I can't wait until we move into our new headquarters (we REALLY DO need it, we're working in 3 "sick" buidings) and have to SHARE CUBICLES!!! And poor Steve Odland got $5 mil and is crying poverty!

No Offense meant to you, so please don't take it that way, but when you speak of cubicles, this means you're not in a store obviously. I think your opinions would be drastically different at that point! Good Luck on getting your new building though!

I work at OfficeMax right now and just found out I may not have a job in two weeks. I wonder if the current CEO reduced his pay any so people like me on the frontlines who really make things happen could keep our jobs? I mean, really, let's say he makes 4.7 mil and cut his salary in half, he's still making 2.3 to 2.4 million a year!!
These people who work 9-5's, no weekends, no nights, no holidays they have to work, get paid all the money, make the decisions, yet I've never even seen my district manager even one time visit my store even though I admit my tenure with the company has not been long.
They can make mistake after mistake and then cut my job but still keep theirs! Please explain the math!! None of these types work in the store yet they make the decision on how a store should be run?!?
It's just like a dad who sends his son off to boarding school for being a discipline case yet he's never around! His son gets punished for the dad's blatant shortcomings!!
In this day and age, the more money you make, the less accountable and responsible you have to be for your actions while others pay the price for your decisions.
Why isn't any of this against the law?!? How can a CEO fire other people and still keep a multi-million dollar salary???? Anybody who does this should go to prison!!!!!!!!!!

Instead of letting go all the talent on your payroll OfficeMax, why don't you go after the source of YOUR problem......like those underperforming EndCaps with that lousy product that is on them. I swear whoever is responsible for this crap product in our stores was on acid when decided to outfit the stores with the product. The only thing stores have to worry about when it comes to these EndCaps maintained is keeping the dust off.

WOW, I thought SAM & SAM were clueless but you may even less of a clue! I am a 12 year employee who received Champions the Values on my last evaluation and I worked my ass off for OfficeMax, just to be cut. Somehow you think these cuts were performance based, but they were not. They just cut full time employees (night/early morning crews, drivers, etc) and not they are cutting management. Good luck to you and whoever else is left with BTS. I bet your hero Sam wont be out helping put mdse on the shelves or building the BTS displays!

My question for officemax is how on earth did you keep all of these layoffs and severances under the radar? If GM or Ford eliminated 5,000+ jobs the media would be all over it. Maybe the media gets the OM Propaganda "411" too. Noticed how no enternal comunications even indicated that all of these people have lost their jobs. Yet, everything goes ahead like nothing happened. Our store got a huge PowerMax Back-to-school deliverly last week and we do not have the personal to put it up and another truck will be here today. Customers cant even get arount the pallets we have on the floor now. Kudos OM for your wise management decisions!

I have worked for OMX for 6yr, everyday at 6am. I liked what I did, proud to have done the work that no one does. In 6yr I only got $2.00 raise, not for lack of work but because my manager was a tightass. Yet I still went to work did my job and then some. My performance was beyound others. And to the ones that said we do this blog on company time, BS it's 10pm and I'm at home so go #%$* yourself.
Yes BTS is here Friday 900+ Powermax I still did my job, and got it put away.Today Powermax 600+. Did my job and put it away, BTS taged and ready to put on shelf, plus every other task I do daily was done. Yet I still am loosing my job. I didn't even want to be a super., I was talked into it last year. I also have a part-time job (4yr). It's call needing a roof over my head, a car to get me to work which is't there anymore. So what are YOU going to do when there is no more OMX? Why haven't we seen anything from the big wigs explaining things. June 25 is coming. Where will you be. Me I guess my last day at OfficeMax.

I could not agree more with the hard work you did.
I was an ImPress BSS. I had been a Hub Manager. I stepped down because I was putting 60 hours a week making sure my customers orders were correct the first time, everytime. I even had slept on my office floor TWICE!! Received 6 consecutive power payouts in a two year period. Had taken a store doing 13,000 a week and taken it to 26,000 a week. Transfered to another store, took that store from 23,000/wk and increased sales to 30,000/week. Stepped down because of the hours/stress of keeping the numbers up. Hire a new manager. No clue. Never made plan ever since. However, I continued to bring in more business. But it became harder because the ImPress DM kept having me fill in from store to store as a mini supervisor. I had been assigned to one store for almost a year before I got back to my home store.
I was "let go" from OfficeMax in February from a position I hadn't performed in TWO YEARS!! When they eliminated the BSS job, I was at another store filling in for a Hub Manager!!! It appears 9 years, profitability and customer service means NOTHING to this company. To those who are there right now...look for employment before YOU ARE NEXT!!

i have only worked for OMX for a year and i was promoted to tech specialist after only a few months at being there. This layoff/ restructure, leaves me jobless because the other 3 key carriers have been there much longer then me and they are the ones getting these jobs, my store is a small volume and only getting the tech and furniture positions along with the assistant gm. so guess what time to look for a new job. i loved working for office max and enjoyed the last year to all getting layed off, i feel your pain and wish you the most luck in finding a suitible job....... GOOD LUCK

I think there probaly are some (not all) a lot of managers who for the most part do very little except stand around and watch the employees who are actually working. That was my experience. You almost had to be screwing someone to make manager (believe me when I say that happens) Manager make almost twice what the hard working employee makes. At the call center in Norman Oklahoma there are 4 Market Sales Managers who sit on their ass' in their offices all day and stare @ the computer or attend "meetings". These people are not of valuable in anyway but yet they make 100,000 dollars or more a year. I think the OfficeMax Corporate office is finally making the right move. Or the share holders are finally catching on.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Gemini

You're in a warm-hearted and generous mood today, especially when dealing with loved ones and members of the family. You want to give them as much of your time as possible, and also to do anything else that will keep them happy. The only snag will come if you're trying to spread yourself too thin and you end up making promises that will be difficult, if not impossible, to keep. You may forget all about them but other people won't.
