...and Metro North is quiet by comparison? Old diesel engines at ground level, blaring horns at crossings & bridges? I've been in buildings where the passing train shakes/vibrates the house, but never an aircraft. These folks just want something to complain about. They are probably the ones who will also complain that delays are excessive when they are waiting for their airplane to land at LGA.

I"m curious as to what remedy is desired: fewer planes causing more delays? Special mufflers that add maybe 25% to the cost of flying? Move air traffic over to only poor cities? Clone giant voiceless swans substitute for jets? I know--put strict limits on Learjets. No, that will never do....

Noise from today's jets is really a non issue. This is typical NIMBY uneducated and narrow minded behavior. I live under the take off and approach routes for Islip and we get 27 737s everyday at 1500 to 2000 feet flying over and you can easily carry on a conversation.
