I agree with the reviewer who noted that there is only a single complaint against Ondura listed with the BBB. I also notice some more discrepancies here. Onduline which is being claimed by some was Ondura before going bankrupt, does in fact still exist. Furthermore I'm also a bit suspicious about the numerous complaints about hail punching holes into Ondura roofs. Try to google "Ondura hail damage" and see how many pictures show up. I found none. Somehow I am getting the impression that there are a number of roofers at work trying to give a product a bad name that does not need to be replaced all the time. Let's face it the regular tar roofing shingles so popular in the US are crap. No one in Europe would touch this cheap junk, because it doesn't last. I've seen fiber cement tiles similar to these asphalt tiles last for 40 years and beyond without any issues. So how bad could Ondura really be?

For Joe: To ease your "suspicions" I will post pictures of hail damage to Ondura for you as soon as the 2000 feet of tarp that is protecting my home comes off for roof replacement, and I assure you, it will not be Ondura. I watched the roofers apply the tarp today and listened to this product cracking under their feet as they worked.

I purchased some to cover a small back patio area. UGH!! Tried nails...but one mistake and I have large rips in the roofing. I went to screws, watch out for that...using a screw gun, if you put the screw in too far, it pops right through the roof. I think I am gonna cut my losses and go with something else. Fed up in NC.

Did you have it recommended to you? I am considering it but have not found too many positive posts on the internet. I don't think roofers like it for some reason
Roofers do not like to be associated with a product that lasts 10 years and and deteriorates like nothing else. The warranty that ondura offers is all bull.
They will do everything that they can to blame the installer and will not pay refund/repair cost.

I am considering covering my roof with ondura panels , has anyone tried this?
Ours has been on our roof for 5 years. It was easy to install and looks great. We have people stop all the time and ask if it's metal and what it's called.
The north side of the house has moss growing on it. I have contacted Ondura about the fact that it isn't supposed to mildew, mold, etc. it is guaranteed for life. Ondura has not responded. I asked them if there was something I could spray on it to remove the moss, they won't answer me.
Think twice about using it. I would have gone with metal had I known that it was going to grow moss.

There are special nails that you buy with it. They are like double headed with a rubber seal that prevents leakage. Lowe's carried them with the Ondura when we bought it. They were color co-ordinated with our roofing panels.

DO NOT BUY ONDURA! It is horrible. I've had it on my house for about 10 years the panels are starting to rot in places and about two years ago chunks of the panels started breaking off leaving holes in the roof. Also ive had a lot of problems with bees boreing through the roofing panels also leaving holes and my attic full of bees every summer.it feels like I constantly have to be on my roof patching holes. I bought this product thinking it was going to be something good for my home,WOW did i get screwed. This product is absolutely terrible. do not purchase if you value your hard earned money and your home. i was scammed, hopefully this will save someone else a lot of time and aggrivation.

I installed Ondura on a large carport /garage 15 years ago. Paint peeling a bit, but holding up fine. It was easy to install, only 30% more $ than shingles at the time, and zero leaks to date. I did it all myself, here in Boston area. We get snow of 3 feet at a time or more. Easier to clear than shingles, with a roof rake. Like any product, the application, install and experience will vary from user to user. I had a good experience and have already used it on other small buildings. I painted one project a diff color using a good quality acrylic latex paint ( $25 per gal ) and it looks good after 2 yrs. I had some sheets stacked on the ground for 4 years and do notice those will compromise the durability and become brittle. When on a roof they get the ability to air out, to prevent brittleness. Good Luck

I have had Ondura on my roof for 15 years, it is still in good shape. I am about to do my other house with it, and I will tell you that I have completely sealed the roof with ice guard first. You must be careful when installing Ondura to make sure it lays right. If you do, you will be rewarded with a ver long lasting roof product that sheds snow well and doesn't fill your gutters with grain. It is great stuff, but you cannot just throw it up there!!!

Not sure what you're referring to. My mobile had a conventional shingle roof on about a 3/12 pitch and I just went right over the old shingles. My first and last sheets went right to the edge of the roof and I used 2-3 times the normal amount of nails, even driving a few at an angle from the outside back toward the roof to give the edge a firm feel.

You definitely get the feeling that you have to be "delicate" with this stuff as it's going on. My sheets had a bow to them the length of the sheets and you must hold down the sheet firmly as you tightly drive the nail or the nail will penetrate the sheet before it draws the sheet to the roof. All in all it looks great (we added matching brown shutters), and for my situation (re-roofing some very nasty shingles so I can hopefully get this home sold) it was the best option. But I probably wouldn't recommend taking a chance on it long-term.
