Only use ondura where you have significant slope, and no roofing penetrations such as vent and pipe openings

I have installed Ondura on two roofs (one damaged by Katrina and one new roof) and I love it. Installation is easy and I find no problem with roofing penetrations.

I recommend it highly.

Did you have it recommended to you? I am considering it but have not found too many positive posts on the internet. I don't think roofers like it for some reason

I am considering using Ondura tiles for our carport.
I have had a problem trying to find tiles...does anyone know where to get them? Also, I need to know if Ondura can be painted and if so what type of paint is recommended. I would like to repaint the tile a Terra Cotta color to match our home tiles. Ondura is not offered in a Terra Cotta color. I would appreciate advice from someone who knows.
Thanks!!

I just emailed Ondura for your question Mary. I wish to paint underside so asked your question. My underside will be exposed and want it a lighter shade giving some reflective and festive appearence. I will get back with response.

I'm considering Ondura as roof of small pool house - cabana. Does this material transfer sunlight? If not, does anyone have experience with the Ondura skylights?- THANKS!

Charliemack: Did you end up using Ondura? I'm also in Portland and want to have this installed. But roofers don't seem familiar with it. Any suggestions in the Portland area?

I looked into the Ondura transparent sheets. They are lightweight plastic and not suitable for residental use. Might work fine for your application, but I'd have a couple of spare panels for repairs.

I had Ondura installed on my home in 2000 by a professional roofer. It was easy to install and he did little things per Ondura's suggestion that should extend the life perhaps longer than Ondura warrant.

But in less than 8 years the paint is peeling and flacking off exposing the asphalt material. It was discovered when I asked my roofer to come by and repait a leak we had during driving rains. That turned out to be a problem due to expansion and contraction, so it was easy to coorrect.

But while on the roof, he checked it out thoroughly. He found several exposed areas that if not treated sson would deteriorate the roofing making replacement required.

I contacted Ondura for waaranty but the warranty is only willing to cover about 25% of the cost. The have offered to sell me their paint at about $800 cost and no labor coverage. We are looking at other paint sources since I don't have a lot of faith in their paint.

I was very disappointed in their warranty offer.

A conventional roof would have lasted longer than 8 years. So, I probably won't use Ondura in the future.

I had a contractor install Ondura in 2000. The paint is peeling and flaking off. I would not put it on again. I am more concerned about the roofing not lasting longer for a lifetime warranty. 20 years is considered normal for most asphalt roofing. What happens to the asphalt without paint. How long will it last.

I would avoid it.
I installed it on my garage 4+ years ago and the painted color layer is peeling away in the valleys. Yes it was easy to install, but it is not easier to maintain when cleaning off leaf debris. I was offered partial compensation for new paint from the company but the claims department is not customer friendly (impossible to talk to anyone), and why do I want to risk my neck cleaning and repainting with the acrylic paint from the same company which made the defective paint to begin with.

Ondura roofing tiles can be ordered from contract sales at lowes. The paint can be ordered from ondura for about $15 a gallon or you can purchase a acrilic latex paint recomended by ondura. Ondura comes with a paint warranty of 10 years and recomends it be painted at the 10 year point if you keep it painted it has a life time warranty]

I used the Ondura predecessor roof then called Onduline on three large buildings because it had a lifetime warranty. The paint lasted about 10 years and the roofing was rotten and breaking apart in less the 20 years. Onduline went bankrupt and didn't pay any warranty. Now the exact same roof is marketed as Ondura with the same fantastic claims of being a good roofing material when it is very poor except for ease of installation.

I installed this product in May 2009 for a customer, I rec'd call and it appears the moisute is seeping through the panels. Ondura claims it is condensation. The issue is the rood is over a open porch not inclosed. anyone else been told the weeping problem is condensaion by Ondura

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Gemini

You're in a warm-hearted and generous mood today, especially when dealing with loved ones and members of the family. You want to give them as much of your time as possible, and also to do anything else that will keep them happy. The only snag will come if you're trying to spread yourself too thin and you end up making promises that will be difficult, if not impossible, to keep. You may forget all about them but other people won't.
