And is his name still on the building?

As long as his name is on a building at The Ohio State University... I think it has to be hard to teach ethics at a business school that celebrates insider trading. Why not name an adjacent building in honor of Bernie Madoff? Can you believe that the shills at the Dispatch did not even mention that the STATE named a building in honor of this FELON!?! Oh Ohio journalism, how far you have sunk. The "search for truth" was replaced by the "search for money" a while ago at OSU. Sometime in the late 80's and early 90's, the ethical compass was smashed into smithereens behind Bricker Hall. Blackwell's name on a state building memorializes the decay of the university's soul. Please remove the name from the building...or at least be snide enough to make a symbolic connection to how the "Blackwell" was truly funded. Where are our glib comments about compassion from "Dear Leader." This is not football. This is the real celebration of recovery from moral and ethical breakdown.(Sorry. That was a little sarcastic.)

Here is the sequence of events: 1. Worthington Foods is sold to Kellogs for $65,000,000 2. The Harding family decamps to California with enormous wealth. 3. Kellog moves Worthington Foods production to a non-union plant and closes the Worthington Foods Plant. 4. The former manager of Worthington Foods donates millions and the 7th Day Adventists build a new church on 161. 5. Blackwell's ex tattles to authorities that Blackwell tipped off people illegally before the sale. 6. Blackwell goes to jail. 7. Worthington Foods is torn down and replaced with a bankrupt condo complex and half completed office park.

It's bad enough there a building named in honor of this crook, it was done because he donated so much money for its construction; money that was proved to be derived from his criminal activities!

Brilliant marketer, but a little lacking in the ethics department. That would make him a typical American businessman.

Buckeyzfan, Let me be helpful. It is hard to say how this felon divvied up the loot of his amassed wealth. What we know is that he was generously paid by the boards he served (and betrayed) with his criminal conduct. It is reasonable to believe that this money was mingled in the wealth that put his name on a building of higher education. So yes, it is derived from the activity. Ohio State has had enumerable fine faculty that are not criminals. But far fewer faculty have "cashed in" on their positions with the university for personal gain. Unfortunately, the esteemed faculty that served the institution are not having buildings named after them without donating money. Ohio State has chosen to continue to honor a man that not only acted greedily and out of self-interest, but did this with criminal conduct. It is the type of criminal conduct that undermines the very essence of fair and lawful business practice in America. So, what money did he use to put his name on a building? Who knows? But like the university that use to exist in Columbus, one dollar is the same as any other dollar. Putting it in a different account does not change the moral character of how it is spent. Think about that...and you might learn more than just "marketing."

HAH! I had Blackwell for several post-grad marketing classes. he was a pompous a**. He openly bragged about his Porsche and how much it cost -- openly bragged abouit how his smarts regarding wealth enabled him to find a much younger "trophy wife." He was a despicable character and seldom made himself available to his studentsa. You had to talk to his graduate assistants if you wanted to explore anything outside class. he relied primarily on fill-in-the-blank and multiple choice tests so he never had to make students prove their thought process by writing -- that would take time for him to grade. He had us read texts predicting the economic rise of Europe over the USA by 2000, but obviously that didn't happen and he did the same as regards Japan. The guy was a class A jerk for a professor and role model.

Now, I realize how much of an arrogant *** he was. I recollect the same types of things - bragging about cars, houses, name dropping, this and that. Pathetic. I actually feel sorry for him that his life has that little depth.
