I wish you well! I admired how your country has stuck up for the working class Joe! Again this is the worst company to work for so good luck. |
||||
thank you..however I am not gonna celebrate yet as I dont think u.s.s will let us go without a helluva fight..they dont mind spending money to ruin a company and its employees..imagine what they could do if they spent that effort on good employee relations..I think its terrible how an American company could screw a hardworking American and shudder to think what they will do to a hardworking Canadian..p.s. its great to be able to talk to American steelworkers who are in the same boat and feel the same as us Canadians |
||||
This is not a Canadian or American thing, this is a North American thing. You are our friendly neighbors who share our rivers and lakes. Iwill post this link from Lou Dobbs from a few months ago. We all need to get up and running and close off our shorelines to overseas exporting thousands of tons of steel. Your government has stood up to US Steel , But watch this video and see the truth. Where was your government then when they allowed Trans Canada to import all this pipeline? http://www.cnn.com/video/... |

Great video Iron Mike, you are right, North Americans have to stick together. We have to
write to our goivernment reps, vote, and nothing has a greater effect then protesting in the street.We all have to get involved, it's not going to be easy. |

1 Everything has gone global, why cant the common working man. Greedy business men self serving politions have done this to us all. I understand Your parliament has stood up against US Steel and demands to be paid or reopened, but during this downturn there was no product to be made anywhere. The light is at the end of the tunnel though and we will all be united again. |

we cant go global..if anything we should be stopping like you said all foriegn imports from any third world country..such as china and india for starters because we cannot compete with thier low labour costs,lack of environment and pollution laws and lastly thier general disregard for safety.These countries care nothing about undercutting us with inferior and sometimes equal in quality product..its time to stop hand-holding these countries because as of late they have proven themselves fully capable and in fact dangerous to our economy..[china graduates 900,000 engineers a year to use as an indication]and I agree our govt should have stepped up before on this issue including our fresh water,our lumber and the oil sands.I for one am praying on my job at Stelco returning and have no problem telling anyone who will listen of how proud I was to be lucky enough to work there..p.s..just curious..how many u.s.steel mills are still down in America?

At GLW we are said to not be on idle status anymore. Still we have around 700 workers that were recalled while over 1000 are still out on the streets. In my eyes they really shouldn't be saying they are out of the idle status when more then half of the workers are not recalled. The Steel making departments are running while the finishing and support departments are not operational. This company is so cunning. It's good for the PR to look operational I guess, but really they are not. |
||||
Very true Mayday, until we level the playing field globaly, we are going to be battling the influx of exported products. I was only saying in theory it would be nice if we could globaly stand up to the Man. |

I agree with you too Ironmike..however if this goes on another 6mths I too will face bankruptcy and will lose both vehicles and my house that I have worked very hard for..I will admit that at this time I am very frustrated and feel that I am caught in an undertow of despair that shows no signs of weakening..so forgive my rhetoric and anomsity..its not directed at my fellow steelworkers but at the dirty corprate pigs like u.s.steel and the politions who enable them.This makes it hard for me to care about global well being..I say screw them and let north America prosper..good luck and hope your back in the pits making pellets soon
