Horrific editing:

"The owners of the land, Ralph and Mike Black, agreed to give her the three cars for free. They hope to build a hotel similar to the Fairhaven Hotel that burned there years ago."

BURNED WHERE? Morocco? France? Fairhaven?

14 Paragraphs and the writer fails to identify WHERE the cars are now, yet continues to reference "there"...near the water...etc..." as if we actually know what the heck he's saying.

No standards whatsoever at the PO...try proofreading. If I did my job this poorly...I'd be fired.

I agrree....Jim youdid a terible job of reporting on this. These cars are not here, they were, never here, the land theay areon/was given to her is not here. She want to move them here to do this.
And "will make Mercersburg a historical destination".....hello? That is what it is now. While this idea may enhance the area, it will not "make" the area...

More junk that is already here.
Add that to the house on the square, and the house on Main St.(A cluttered mess.)

Market and Theme Park in town? Oh, I get it now...she is going to set the rail cars in a circle on the square and have a roller coaster built that runs up and down Main Street overhead, and she will sell Gettysburg souvenirs and put Mercersburg back on the Map... haha..WOW this could become as big as Hershey Park...yahooo....I have to agree, this reporter must still be on a buzz from Halloween candy, because the story leaves a lot to the imagination for sure!

Downtown? I guess - except we have NO IDEA WHERE this plan is supposed to unfold.

All we know is the cars are "2700 miles" from here.

Lame.

This is the most confusing story! Unless I missed something, it never says where the rail cars are now. Are they in Mercersburg? Are they somewhere else? What the heck??? It's as if the PO just assumes we know all about this.

Where are the rail cars now (state and city) and where, exactly, does she want to move them?

I think the main thing you are to take from this story for now, is that this project to save the town will take lots of money ....... get your wallets out....and get ready. :)

After re-reading this, I'm guessing since the cars are 2700 miles away, and I see something about Washington, and near the water.... could they be in the STATE of Washington, on the coast?

Points are:

1. VERY poor writing/editing on the part of this "reporter".

2. Mercersburg needs this "market & theme park" like it needs.... oh never mind. I'd better not say...

3. This isn't "historic" as it relates to Mercersburg. Yes, there was a railroad a long time ago, but I don't think it was here long enough for it to have been THAT historic.

Geez.

This is business! Not a tax-project. Privately funded.

How did people become so dumb that they dont know the difference between government and business?

Yes - I know, the ubiquitous, all powerful, "They"

I agree that this is an extremely poorly written article. Does not make sense at all. You have to read it three times to put the puzzle pieces together, sort of.

All I can say is that I hope NO ONE in Mercersburg or any other areas sells land to this person. If these rail cars were so useful there on the Pacific coastline, they wouldn't be getting rid of them. They sound like junk that would be better off in the dump than in our backyard.

Why so bitter, Janie? It actually sounds like an idea worth hearing - and for once, it doesnt involve tax money!

At least they didn't try to extort us into buying the paper for this article. I thought maybe I'd had a stroke when I couldn't comprehend the story. Thanks to Topix, now I know I am not the only one who sees it is senselessly written.

I hope her and Ole Betty had a talk about this. Things could get ugly bringing more JUNK in town. There is enough junk in this town already. I bet Mercersburg is the only town that allows junk to be left on Main Street. There is absolutely nothing in this town anyway.

This is such a cool idea... a Moroccan restaurant would actually get me into Mercersburg once in a while. And Flannery's after for a great draft beer.

Oh Mercersburg, you are so confusing to me.
