I am still waiting for my settlement money from the Kodak company. My family has been trying to get the ownership of the Eastman/kodak company back since the deppression years. Kodak owners stoled it and other property of my families. The cries of the government murdered my parents, through this episode. Can't wait till this case is finalized.

More rhetoric from a dumb city resident.
Let's see ... one day you were in the military, next day you were a janitor, what day will you be president of the Afreakin'-Americans in the city?
I was a janitor before I joined the service idiot. How is that so freakin impossible for you to believe. The only rhetoric that I read comes from you. But I'm glad that you have taken notice of my life story. Wanna help me write a book? Jerk.

Go to the tanning salon, pay for an entire weeks worth of boothing. Then you can get in on this class action suit that's been floating around. Hurry, you don't have much time. Tan away. Or I see they have a spray out. Quick tan.

In my 40+ years in the work force, I have seen a lot of changes. While absolute out and out racism existed years ago, I think we all need to step back and redefine that word. Before some of you go off the deep end with that comment, please allow me to explain. I know there are elements in our society that hate everyone that doesn't look like them. My observation is many times favoritism toward friends becomes a racist issue rather than a misguided policy. In our company, a lower level supervisor kept putting his buddies on certain jobs. This resulted in screams of racial discrimination. The guy wasn't a racist but just a man who used poor judgment. When I first entered the work force, no one gave me my job. I had to work my tail off for it. Let's stop using skin color, gender or religious affiliation and get back to the job of fixing our economy and country. There are lazy and miserable people in all walks of life. This will never change. Time is now to move forward. By the way, the entire Kodak lawsuit was a joke as it only made the lawyers rich.

Engineer? One need know that racism is ALIVE AND WELL in AMERICA. Now you need to define the word? Stop. Let's not let White America design or redesign another stratefication system that simply descriminates in every arena in America solely on the basis of an IMMUTABLE ATTRIBUTE AS SKIN COLOR.

I'd like to see you as the minority that lives through the hell.

400 plus years later you are STILL VISITING RACISM IN A SO CALLED DEVELOPED COUNTRY? Well my friend, make sure you are on the receiving end of the definition. The last time White America defined racism, the Black population went MISSING!!!!!!!!!!

The one great thing about this country is that all can express their opinions. I think you are way off course on refusing to look at the word racism. My son who was well qualified for a job was passed over for a lesser qualified minority person. The company said that they had a quota system in effect. Would you consider that racial discrimination? How about the Rochester Fire and Police departments that considered lowering standards in order to attract more minorities. Shouldn't we be pushing education instead of lowering standards? Let's start trying to help pull people up by their bootstraps instead of constantly bemoaning the fact that their lousy lives are the result of a system that uses skin color. Nothing will ever change until we do.

Where were you to give those suggestions when the stratefication system of America was designed intentially excluding minorities and women.

You do make a great point regarding more qualified vs. less qualified candidates receiving jobs, point well taken.

With that said, your son may ASSUME that he was more qualified and feel that his entitlement (white skin) should supersede, but perhaps maybe he "actually" wasn't the best candidate for the position.

In all fairness, I need to say this: To use ones color as a "crutch" or excuse to profit, so to speak, is termed: COLORISM.

i.e. I didn't get the position because I was black...(in your case or am I assuming white or other than black)
I got stopped by the police in Irondequoit because I was Black. Oops bad example there. IRONDEQUOIT WAS SITED BY THE FEDS FOR RACIAL PROFILING SORRY, BAD EXAMPLE.
Oh here is one: I DIDN'T GET THE JOB BECAUSE I WAS A black man (95.8% true).

When a system that has been designed to enfluence the behaviors of those making decisions, this is what you have.

You act like THERE ARE NO SERIOUS RAMIFICATIONS BEHIND THE TRANSATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE. You act as if, let's just drop old ways and start a new. CAN'T DO THAT BECAUSE THE STRATIFICATION SYSTEM DESIGNED TO PREVENT MINORITIES, ALSO INFLUENCES WHITE AMERICA ON HOW AND WHO TO HIRE.

Now what I don't agree with is that the RPD has a 3 in one rule. For every 3 non-minorities hired, 1 minority MUST be hired. The problem with the rule is that "minority" does not include WOMEN. A TRUE MINORITY STATUS.

So, when the shoe doesn't fit your foot, we change the rules? NO THE RULES AND DEFINITIONS SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHANGED AND REDEFINED LONG AGO.

We are not sure that your son was qualified for whatever job it was he didn't get. YOU MAKE AN ASSUMPTION THAT YOUR SON WAS THE QUALIFIED CANDIDATE, PERHAPS HE WAS NOT THE "MOST" QUALIFIED, IF HE WAS QUALIFIED. SORRY, I DON'T AGREE WITH YOUR STANCE, AND IT'S NON-MINORITIES WITH THESE ATTITUDES, JUST LIKE YOUR OWN, WHO DON'T GET THIS, YET, YOU BE THE ONES TO MAKE THE DECISIONS.

STOP. DON'T GET ANGRY BECAUSE YOU GET A TASTE OF YOUR OWN MEDICINE.

I'm a black man and I got fired in 2008 for no reason. Went to civil rights here and it seem like they were on Kodak side from the start, they did nothin to help my case at all. I seen alot of untreatment and unfairness toward the real Black folks all the time I worked for the company. You do have the fake blacks to that go away with murder. I think if you ask the young minority that worked thru the agenies about Kodak , they can tell you more about how they are treated. Kodak havn't changed they are still the same. The only thing that changed was the paperwork.

Lewis: You know racism when you see it. You are right about Kodak and probably right about 99.6% of all companies in America having diversity issues.

Here is something I don't agree with in corporate America though:
If an employer offers an educational benefit, TAKE IT. CAN'T CLAIM YOU ARE MORE QUALIFIED IF YOU ARE UNEDUCATED AND THE NEXT PERSON IS MORE EDUCATED THAN YOURSELF. GET COMPETITIVE! GET A DEGREE SO THAT YOU CAN COMPETE. A LOT OF TIMES, PEOPLE CRY DISCRIMINATION AND RACISM WHEN IT'S A MATTER OF: you not being the most qualified for the position.

If you and I worked for Kodak and there was a job opening, and each of us were there 20 years respectively, I have 3 degrees you have none. Who is more qualified? Do the degrees make me more COMPETITIVE OR MORE QUALIFIED. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.

Work experience is a partial component of hiring. There are so many more qualifications that need to be considered.

ie. Ambulance drivers: Can't discriminate they say?

Well check this out.
There was a motorcycle accident on Brooks Avenue in the city of Rochester about 1 month ago. The person on the motorcycle weighed about 400 plus pounds. When the paramedics arrived it was two women attendents. THEY COULD NOT PUT THE ACCIDENT VICTIM ON THE STRETCHER. Both attendents asked the spectators to help. Several men attempted to assist the ambulance attendents. They still could not lift the victim. Finally they (spectators and the ambulance attendants) got the victim on the stretcher, but not before falling because the "wood thing" they had placed under the victim to lift the victim onto the stretcher, broke. The victim fell from the stretcher and wood thing causing more damage than the accident.

IF MALE ATTENDANTS HAD BEEN THERE INSTEAD OF FEMALE, WE MAY HAVE HAD A DIFFERENT STORY. I UNDERSTAND THE VICTIM DIED FROM NOT GETTING IMMEDIATE TREATMENT FOR INJURIES.

My point: The women may have been qualified to be ambulance attendants, but not necessarily the right persons for "this" accident/job.
