Opel although nothing special,however is the best daughter company that this pathetic mother company G.M has to show.At least they could earn some Euros unlike her other companies which G.M has to give money on top in order to sell them.

German government should immediately demand to return all the credit money which was given to GM in order to help them to sell the company.

So why is GM bankrupt in the first place? Because of massive fraud of the politically connected in the higher echelons of the company that embezzled the company Capital into bankruptcy; just sucked the company dry of money over a period of 7 years.

Has Fritz Henderson completely lost it? Merkel and other German politicians went out on the limb to get him a loan. They arranged funding when Opel is sold. Now GM managed to piss off the government of a host country; let's see how far it will take them.

First of all, they will have to return the bridge loan to the German government. Second, they will need funding to overhaul Opel (where is that going to come from?). Don't come knocking on the government door again for another funding package.

Finally, this move till probably cost more German jobs than if Magna and the Russian had bought them.

Poor Mrs Merkel and German workers.Couldn't you see it comin? G.M's management are imposters in disguise,just like the cars of her automobile companies.Ugly cars lacking of innovation.I can't say the same for G.M's golden boys.They seem to never lack of ways to spend the money of the unlucky tax payers...

Well everybody, I guess we are not getting 'all' of our information right? I have understood for almost 40 years that Opel was a General Motors Plant in Germany that exported cars to the United States starting back in 1969-70. And I completely understand that GM, USA has 'not' run their business correctly since as far back as 1970(or earlier). So I guess I do't totally understand why GM was selling(?) Opel to Germany to start out with. GM's wages/benefits/CEO's bonuses have gotten way out of hand over the years, plus their inability to produce what the average consumer really wanted. And it has always taken 4-5 years to redesign/re-tool cars/pick-ups, so they have been behind the curve for a long time!! No versatilibility(can't change fast enough). Plus 'other' assorted wrong decissions. Now they are in the mess they are in!

The US government in effect took over GM with its bailout proposal a few months ago. Now GM has decided not to sell Opel (ugly little cars)- so does this mean that the US government (as GM's largest stakeholder) decided not to sell Opel? Why would the government want to own an automobile company - not good track records: Yugo, Lada, Skoda, etc.

First, American needs to build good cars again. We can do it. Next, we need to put such a high tax on any car not made in America - it stays in the Status Symbol Stats & we reep the tax reward. The only way this would be honest: is to build & offer competive cars. When we got involved with GM; I could not understand why the Execs who are at the helm of their failure - were not replaced. That's a big part that got missed in the deal. Replace the Execs & get them into the good 'ol American Competive Spirit.

I've said since back in the earlt 70's(gas gouging'73) that The Federal Government should have put a strong Import Fee/Tax on 'all' foreign auto makers. that would have given the Big Three a chance to improve the Domestic Car manufacture quality/prices. But the Government let all of the foreign auto makers get their foot-in-the-door with prices less than what it cost them to make them. We screwed ourselves!!!

don't you worry about germans,they are not dumb like you russians.

I am curious what Merkel's government will tell GM when they come back and start asking for about 4 billion Euros in loans to restructure Opel... :)

Opel ugly little cars?...I think they are not bad at all.

If you want ugly, check out the Fiat website. With Fiat and Chrysler together, there will be a new meaning to the word ugly.

Opels are not ugly or little, but they do have a grandma-car image in Germany.

GM is begging the EU governments for money, to restructure Opel. I will be curious to see how far they get, after they pissed them off like this.
