Police report: 67 gangs active in Norfolk

Explain exactly what these gangs do? ie: Bounty Hunter Bloods.....like the Cottonmouth Gang? Trying to say alert to these thugs.Colors? Templates? In Newport News...etc...

So stupid and a waste of talent within the community. It is unreal the potential that some of these young men have yet the settle for this type of ending to thier lives. I am not for the death penalty but when it comes to people like this and yes I am African American and I live out Ocean View it makes me sick to my stomach(literally). These children do not have any hope for their futures and it is truly sad. God bless thier families and thier souls they are going to need it especially when the all die and go straight to HELL... To any all you punks if you can read get a life and keep hope alive and stop letting the White man get the best of you and have you thinking that your life is worth nothing and you are not anything worth anything. I love you but I rather you guys change or die out.

Please explain what the white person has to do with your behavior, are you saying the white person is ultimatley more intelligent than the black person? Do whites program you to kill each other? In this country you have the freedom to go to school and get an education. In fact if your black you have more of a chance to go to college than a white. So the ignoramous who said whites get the best of you kiss my ass. You are an ignorant person and a racist. Because your a failure you have to blame something or someone. how about owning up to your mistakes in life, blame yourself. Get a life. It’s all about NOT working for a living. Taking whether it by beating, thugging or killing someone for their possessions somehow build respect in this sorry a** community of gangs. Standing by and not reporting criminal activity only adds to the problem. Report it to the Police or call crime line. The recruitment of children to shoot and kill, this is totally unacceptable behavior. In 10 years if Gangs are allowed to continue, it won’t be Gang activity no more, more like Street or Urban Warfare.

Another "Don't let whitey keep you down sentiment" ? What more do you people want?(and I DID say YOU PEOPLE) There is a BLACK MAN of AFRICAN decent occupying the highest office in the land and yet Whitey is STILL keeping these kids down? I don't think so. These kids are in it for the $$ and who can blame them, by the way this is NOT racially specific. I am, as Farrakahn would put, it "a white devil" and I have seen the same type of thing transcending all races but of all of these types of criminal enterprises,most of the people involved on the street level ALL have one thing in common: They're ALL POOR. That means that race is incidental. I'm willing to bet that this type of thing is NOT going on in Bill Cosby's, Colin Powell's, Westley Snipes, Will Smith, ect Neighborhood, bet the farm they don't even get pulled over that much. And why not? After all, they're black. If I were the Grand Wizard, they'd be the biggest threats to my perceived supremacy. But I digress, the point is that these kids turn to this on the promise of quick and easy $$? Totally understandable, we've ALL thought of it, doesn't make it right, and it DOESN'T make it some sort of Caucasian conspiracy to ruin the Black Man's self esteem and hope; but that's what the majority of people are programmed to believe. And incidentally, as a white man I don't believe I am: "letting the White man get the best of you and have you thinking that your life is worth nothing and you are not anything worth anything." On the contrary, I DO believe these kids are worth something better, and this type of thing is devastating to their lives and the lives of others, not to mention that it fuels the "Black Man" stereotype, of which I'm sure you're fond. Not only that, racial polarization causes more harm than good, its a deception to the real problem/cause of this gang activity. We all have to work together on this, and I hope for their sake they begin to focus their efforts inward towards being a service to the community rather than a hindrance, but that takes full community involvement and includes all races.

I also think we need to put cameras up in all areas, what can you do if you move then you have something else to deal with or you do not know that area or the people next door.

There have been gangs since my days in 1992 when I was a Booker T. Wash. High School student. We had gangs like Ebony Playboys, Boulevard Boys, FOBs, Diego Boys, Phila Mafia. Glad I never joined although I knew some who were in one. Glad most of them quit and now have families. Gangs are a dead end and not worth going to jail or dying for. It takes a real person not to join a gang and standup for him or herself.

I used to reside in the Coleman Place section of Norfolk and it has gottan worse than it used to be.

Simple question: If the police already know about these gangs, why not round them up and put them away. I am sure that 90% of them are carrying some form of qweapon, and the other 10% has some form of drug in their pockets...plus, how fast can they run with their butts hanging out.

That would violate the Fourth Amendment prohibition on unreasonable searches and seizures and possibly their Fifth Amendment privileges. Everyone is protected under the United States Constitution - even suspected criminal. Police-citizen encounters are regulated by state and federal laws. Virginia does not seem to even have a "stop and identify" statute (there doesn't seem to be any federal "stop and identify" laws at all).

They can be arrested for public decency laws, and your pants around your ankles is public indecency. There is always a way around a law.

That's just what we need. More cops that twist and stretch the laws to satisfy their personal crime fighting styles. Actually, there are laws as to how much "shaking down" a cop can do. probable cause and reasonable suspicion are two different things. As far as I know, an arrest is not permitted based on reasonable suspicion, and probable cause is required for an arrest. How many laws should a cop break to make an arrest?
