Back in the day when I was employed at Lexamar in Boyne City MI. I heard over and over again how well they treat their employees because we had the best work force in the nation....blah..blah...blah. You should have seen them kissing the employees butts when the UAW tried to come in....I was all for it because I knew how much crap they were spewing, I made the mistake (at the time) of letting people know I was for it and stood behind the union. Well let me tell you this right here and now, they had the employee so hood winked they were terrified of the union, thinking the shop would shut down immediately upon the union being voted in. The union was defeated so management thanked all the employees for their undying loyalty and assured them they would treat them better and even created an open door policy....WOW. Of course because I was pro union and thought I would test their so called open door policy I was let go. It was a blessing in disguise trust me, I am still gainfully employed with an awesome company while I read how this NON-UNION shop fires people at will...sorry to be politically correct...permanently laid off. I feel sorry for my friends and the other very foolish people who bought into there rhetoric and lost their jobs.

At our division we are told we keep losing money every month. FTT is 95% for all departments combined. Labor accounts for only 10% of operating cost.
So where the hell is all the money going? This may sound stupid but if labor plus scrap is costing us a combined 15% every month where the heck is the other 85% going? And why beat the heck out of the guys on the line if it is obvious there is a huge flow of cash going somewhere besides the cost of labor and scrap? |

Same here at my Magna facility. I work at Drive Automotive in South Carolina. We have half the employees we had a year ago, they moved tradesmen into the most unskilled jobs in the plant, fired most of the supervisors, virtually eliminated the quality department (operators now inspect Class A assemblys in process while being expected to run at rate) giving everyone twice the responsibility while reducing pay and benefits. They wonder why morale is down. We all struggle every day 10-12 hours a day to maintain what we have , there is no time for improvements to be made. All while the threat of more layoffs looms over us all. Management is responsible for this mess, not the associates.

The last thing anyone should want right now is to work for Magna if they don't have to.
Maybe GM and Opel will figure it out before its too late. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor... |

So Gm doesnt trust Magna; wise decision.
But whats with the labor union preferring Magna? Maybe the european automaker unions should visit a few Magna facilities and see how good it is for the Magna employee these days. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news... |

There is a company in northern michigan that was bribeing their employees with bar tabs for the weekend if they would vote down the union. They did vote it down, drank hardly for 3 days. The total bar tabs were like 3 grand, mostly beer, not hard stuff, and 2 weeks later they all got pink slips and were out of work.

Sounds like a Magna company. |

News from Bllomberg.com
-While Germany backs Aurora, Ontario-based carparts maker Magna, GM continues to hold talks with RHJ International SA, the Brussels-based investor whose bid GM chief negotiator John Smith said offers a “simpler” solution. Reinholz, a member of Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union, said Opel has no need of “a fast-track overhaul by a profit-driven financial company.”- These Germans need to visit some of the "restructured" Magna facilities to see what “a fast-track overhaul by a profit-driven financial company” is all about... |
