Another example of a Company attempting to split up union brothers and sisters by offering some a pension but not others. Fight for your family, and good luck.

the greed continues, everyone of these unions will suck the company dry until it moves out of country, then they will complain they have no good jobs. be happy with what you have or get an education and be a doc or lawyer or other high paying profession. buy the way you people have some of the best benefits and highest paying jobs around, try working at walmart suporting 4 children. i know thousands of people whom would trade in their jobs for yours.

I agree with 'podunk and proud'. These people can't see the condition of the economy. I bet 90% haven't used their education assistance to better themselves. You guys better back down and except the contract. You'll be SORROY! It's greed and keeping up with the jones that leads to more, more, more and doesn't produce. I won't feel sorry for you if you lose the contract, go on strike or the company closes and moves to another country. ONLY WHEN THE WELL RUNS DRY DO YOU MISS THE WATER!

Wow! You people who bash these employees are easily misled by corporate propoganda!! Here are some of the facts Vought DIDN'T release: In order for their "wonderful 401k" to be remotely beneficial the employees have to contribute for 30 years!! And given the state of the stock market- even then there is no guarantee!! If employee 1 has been with the company for 15 years as of 12/31/08 his pension is frozen at $1300 a month IF he retires after 30 years- oops he won't really benefit from that 401k since he only put in 15 of the necessary 30 years. He will have to be with the company 45 years for this plan to be beneficial!! Let's not forget that the future of Medicare and Social Security is up in the air and there is no guarantee those programs will be there in the future. And the "wonderful pay" Vought promoted was yet another half truth!! Those who make the top out pay have contributed many years of service to the company- they have EARNED the top out. But I notice there is no mention of the newer employees who make about half the amount Vought put out there!!! Perhaps before you jump on the media bandwagon you should take the time to get ALL of the facts. Corporate America is to blame for the state of the economy right now so how much faith should we really put in them? If we do not stand up NOW we will not survive the future

Alot of working people in the world who kiss the butt of the boss to have a job, just don't get it. I lost my union job making great money to people who came in and said we will do it for half. I worked hard 7 days a week for the company. The company wanted it done for less so they can get new brand new boat. Plus after I went home to my family the big boss would go home to his Brentwood home and saying he need more. What the hell!!! Those people who don't understand the union or listen to what dad and mom told them when they was little about the unions are so blind. I am a proud member today of the Teamsters. And my dad was a memeber to the Teamsters. It was ten years ago and watched him die with cancer. He worked for UPS for 29 1/2 years going to retire at 30 years. After he was gone UPS said he didn't work for 30 years and would not retire him and give my mother the pension for 30 just 25 years. She was going to lose $1000 a month big bosses wanted to save that money and the Teamsters came and said Hell no give that man the 30 after 2 hard weeks of phones call UPS gave in. GOD BLESS THE UNIONS AND THE HARD WORKING BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!!!! I know my family will be taking care of if something happens to me.

It's an assembly plant. A new, unskilled worker SHOULDN'T be making a ton of money. The people that have put in their time have earned all the years of bonuses, raises, etc. But lets be real, it's still only an assembly job. The way you increase your salary with any company is by moving up and increaseing your skills and value to the company. But I digress... They have "temporary" workers ready to go the minute these people would decide to strike. This strike will not hurt the company. The money these people would lose would never be recouped in any deal they would end up settling on. Many times I have seen employees strike only to end up a year later settling for LESS than the original offer! This is after many have lost cars, homes, spouses, and a lifetime of savings. It is NOT their right to tell a private company how much they have to pay them. You can ask! If you don't like what that company pays, go to another one that will pay what you want. That's how it works out here! I bet there are many thousands that will line up to take your place.

The $3,000 bonus would be icing on the cake. Then deduct the taxes on that bonus. Hypothetically let's just estimate it at 20% as that is a standard tax rate- that just dropped it to $2400. So $2400 averaged out over the 3 year length of the contract is $800 a year. THAT IS A WHOPPING "BONUS" OF $15.38 A WEEK!!! Not looking so pretty now is it?

Its not just an assembly plant. I have worked for assembly lines. This is precision work, down to the smallest milimeter. The company doesn't have "education assistance" and alot of the people there have been there for half their lives trying to make a living. This isn't about the supposed $20/hr., this about the pensions, the 401K, the health insurance. It all looks great on the highlights but the details have been left out. The only workers who make the $20, as stated, are the ones with 10+ yrs of experience. Any of the newer employees makes less, some by half. This is not a fight about greed, this is a fight about futures, abilities to retire and afford the health care and prescriptions that come with retirement. Without all the facts its easy to say the employees are out for the all mighty dollar but the truth is, the all mighty dollar isn't what this is about.

"I don't know if anybody's watched the market lately, but 401(k) isn't something workers are too interested in right now. They need a pension they can depend on," said Bob Wood, a spokesman for the union. Yeah right!

By the way, if this plant closes in 5 years anyone on the pension under retirement will lose everything, but under the 401K plan if the plant closes or if you change jobs you keep the 401K

Union Supporter said that the only employees that make $20 per hour are the employees with more than 10 years of service, what are the ones with less than 10 years of service making?$18 or $19 per hour?$20 is reported as an average of 1000 employees. That means that there cannot be a considerable amount of people making much less unless there are employees who make much more.

You guys really need to get the full story of these ladies & gentlemen who work for Vought. You only know what the company wants to tell you. These men and women work very hard and are the lowest paid employees in the company. There are 2 sides to every story so before you go bashing these men & women for standing up for what is right for them & their families try to get all of the facts. The company will have everyone thinking they are offering a wonderful package, but ask the members who have been at the company for years and years what kind of crap they have to deal with and whats being taken away from them. These guys need to stand united and fight for what is best for them as a group. People who believe that these people are being greedy don't have a clue. These people have worked hard to build this company and they deserve the same benefits that the company has in place in Dallas. These men & women in Nashville, have kept this company running and deserve to get the same benefits the rest of the company's plants get. I am proud that my husband has his brothers & sisters fighting with him on this. I hope they stand together united just like they have this far in this fight. Good luck IAM 735.

Unskilled worker hell the me mexicans have the work and watch the U.S. go down great idea!!!<quoted text> Nope, you guessed wrong. I have been employed every minute of my adult life and am very happy with my place in the world! I have not gotten here by sticking with one employer and expecting them to "take care of me". When I don't lke what's going on, I go somewhere else. This mentality that you have to have someone else take care of all your needs is ridiculous. If you had a good job for 29.5 years, you should have saved and invested plenty to be comfortable in your retirement years. Why do you expect someone else to do this for you? Why doesn't the individual take responsibility for their own poor choices in life? Ohh, it's not my fault, it's the big, bad companies fault. If you don't like it, go start your own business and run it the way you believe is right and take care of YOUR employees!

I would like to see what they pay in health care, if they pay any out of pocket at all, I know I have to pay 25% of my health care plus an out of pocket max for the year. When they go on strike I hope they go down and try and get foodstamps and Tenn care because when you strike you are not going to get neither. you strike you don't deserve help.

I agree with Chickie. If you don't like the company you work for, find another job. Also, there are a lot of negative comments about the company, but the union is not guiltless. They are in it for the money too. They are not exempt from using the media to push an agenda. They are as much of a business as the company. They collect dues. They are looking to make money for their leadership and increase membership nationwide to help pad their pockets. There are two sides to every story.
