Do "volunteer" fire Departments get "paid" for calls they run by billing insurance companys for services rendered? If so well we know why C14 drafted the letter and had a hissyfit, It's all about the Dollar, dollar bill and not so much "public safety". Good God man.....

The only way volunteer fire departments get paid is by billing insurance companies for calls in their respective areas. State law does not allow them to bill for calls in mutual aid areas. The only way the can receive money in mutual aid areas is if a piece of equipment or gear is damaged on that call, then they have the department they assisted get reimbursement for them through the insurance company. There are some "paid on call" departments in the state that pay their members a certain amount (not much) per call.

Fire depts do have expenses. Fire trucks and equipment aren't cheap. That's why they bill. It doesn't mean they are getting "paid".

Well I do have to disagree with you James, after a little of research, County VFD's get money from the county, several thousands dollars a year in fact and from what I been told Marmet VFD sits on top of the volunteer world as they receive a crap load of cash from the city as well as the county, and I do believe they have a "payroll" too, only disguised as a clothing allowance. From reports I’ve seen they have members that do not respond to calls and can barley walk on the “payroll” to recieve the clothing allowence. Kinda put an asterisk * on the word Volunteer, eh?

Yea I have to agree with you. I apologize I should have also put in there that departments get county and state money. Alot of departments get extra funding through billing and other ways.

Yeah MFD fireman get around $5 or something for the calls they go on to reimbursement them for clothing that gets damaged on calls. If you consider that 'payroll" then okay. Winder why Donald hasn't volunteered for this cash cow yet?

It's the same thing as usual, Micromanagement from the commission level. The firemen have done this for years give them more funding and let them run there area!!
BULLCRAP!!!!!!!!! The fire departments are just as political. They need more regulating, especially the volunteer ones.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Aries

It won't be long before you start to feel bored today, unless you can distract yourself - you're switching from one activity to another. Ideally, you should keep yourself amused by doing something that's unusual or challenging, otherwise you'll be tempted to stir up trouble just to see what happens next! Even though you know that's a bad idea, you won't be able to resist, unless you've got something better to do with your time.
