Dems scramble after warning from health insurers

Full story: Lubbock Avalanche

Insurance companies aren't playing nice any more. Their dire message that health care legislation will drive up premiums for people who already have coverage comes as a warning shot at a crucial point in the debate, and threatens President Barack Obama's top domestic priority.

The tides are turning; the American public supports Health care Reform and the insurance companies’ see their time of over charging and denying coverage is over when President Obama gets that bill on his desk. These are desperate times for the mega-rich who had 8 years under Bush to ravage and rape the American people. But real leadership is now in the White House and President Obama will stop big business and the wealthy for sticking it to the middle class and the poor.

The study was done by Waterhause. They are a credible company who offered a complete analysis of the Health care bill, and its consequences. The Government has every reason to lie to us, and have lied to us since the begining. Any legislator who supports this bill must be removed from office in 2010, We are already taxed enough. We are already paying enough. Government takeover of the Healthcare industry is not the solution.

I and many other's were curious why the RIP-OFF insurance cartels were so silent on this issue, over the past 4 months.
Well, now we know why.
Of course, had the insurance cartels gotten their way,( higher premiums, less coverage, and the majority say in national health care), we would not of heard a word from the insurance cartels.
Now, Obama has a severe clink in his idea.
The Republirats are partying. And the corporate Democrats, are joining them.
My guess is, the idea is now history. Yes, we need a health care overhaul. But the government cannot run the simplest of agendas as it is.
Much less our health care.
Mr. Obama just got a lesson in who controlls Americas agenda.
The corporate cartels.

I hope your right. But I have serious doubts.
Bottom line is Corporations rule the roost. Not us, the common man. We have become slaves to the corporate master.

Really? The dems say it is impossiboe to predit down to the dollar? They have been predicting down to the last dollar and percentage, since Boo took office. Apparently the dems can predict,(wrongly), but others can't. Ahh the untainted, pure hypocracy of the left

All the polls show Americans do not want Government intervention in their Healthcare. 94% of the people who have private Healthcare are satisfied with it, and they will punish Congressmen who support this bill that they haven't even written yet, much less read. It won't take long to see the Insurance Companies told the truth, and if we give the President a Republican House, and Senate in 2010 we can turn some of this madness around.

Continuing the current course is not the solution either, insurance companies are not going to reform their own practices.

Also, no takeover is proposed, you might want to receive clarity by reading any of the five (house/senate) versions of the bill.

Reform of this industry is desperately needed, and the government is the only entity available to promote change of the current practices. It won't nearly be as bad as you think.

Since when did the insurance companies "play nice"?

If anything, it's Congressional Democrats playing nice. They need to stop it, and pass the reform they were elected to produce. If the insurance companies are unhappy, they can deal with it.

Get the bill out of committee, across both floors, resolved between House and Senate, and signed, in a month. That will give the whiners a new song to sing.

That's why we need single payer. Just let anyone who wants Medicare have it at cost plus 10%. Screw the insurance companies and their greed. We don't want reform that means mandatory insurance for all and our tax dollars are used by the government to act as a collection agency for the insurance turds, to make even more obscene profits.

And what kind of magic wand do you think BO has? How would you provide care to millions more people who can't or won't pay for it, of the same quality as we have now, without either rationing healthcare or charging those who have any money at all more, or both? If you "stick it" to big business and the wealthy, who provides jobs? Who will do medical and pharmaceutical research if any rewards from it will be confiscated by the state? A good thing to remember is that the other socialist health plans around the world benefit from being able to use the new drugs and methods developed in America in our freemarket health care system. If we also go socialist, NOONE will be developing anything new. Where's the incentive? Why do all you idiot leftists think the Soviet Union collapsed, anyway? NOTHING new is created in a system that doesn't reward innovation or effort.

Lol. Despite all the big talk from the little Che types here on Topix, it's obvious that the Dems know that America doesn't want socialist government healthcare. That's why they've been lying away about what it entails, and why even though there's enough of them to pass it, it keeps hanging there. Thank goodness for New Media, which keeps the Formerly Mainstream Media from getting away with their propaganda stories. The Dem congresscritters know that voting for it will doom them in the next elections except for the few that are from Berkeley-type districts. I can picture the back room discussions going on as we speak. "Hey, you vote for it. No, YOU vote for it. I'm not voting for it. YOU vote for it. Hey, I'm not either...." Lol.

What we need is to control costs. Medical tort reform, the ability for medical insurance companies to compete across state lines in a free market, and stopping free health coverage for illegals is all the reform we need. Putting the government in charge of practically ANYTHING guarantees inefficiency, high expense, and a lowering of the quality of service, not to mention that what we need is LESS government, not more.

It's a simple math equation, anybody that thought their insurance premiums would go down has been fooling themselves or drinking far too much of that Obama Koolaid.

If health insurance company ABC today insures 1000 reasonably healthy individuals because they are able to pick and choose the premium gets set at X. But after "reform" that same company can't pick and choose and has to insure people with preexisting conditions and they can't charge that individual for that added risk, then to stay in business ABC Health Care would have to charge everyone else (X Plus premium) more to cover the cost the new high risk members or go out of business.

That makes perfectly good sense! Business is just Business!

I dont think yoou have to worry about the insurance companies siince the government will be the insurance company and you cannot sue the government without permision. Small Businesses and companies will dump their employees on the government plan which will cost them $750 compared to about $8,000 for a commercial insurance policy. The insurance companies will be filing bankruptcy in short order. The Dems have a lot to worry about since insurance companies are the largest employers of LAWYERS. Will Doctors and other Health Care workers be agents of the government and covered by governmental immunity? The simplest solution for any employer is to dump their employees on the government plan and pay the fine. Wait until the people of this country wake up and realized they have been shafted by President Umh Umh Obama and the Democrats. There will be turmoil in the streets.

The hospitals are a bunch of rip offs, what they charge is disgusting, caps need to be put on what hospitals charge and the insurance cos will follow. Regulate hospitals.

That is correct, the war on the middle class has been going on since 2000 and accelerated throughout the Bush admin.
*Highest tax burden on the middle class.
*400 individual Americans own MORE than the bottom 150 MILLION.
An idea who wants to preserve the Bush tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans?

Daily Horoscope for December 17

Aquarius

Yesterday you had a good control over the workings of your mind, but sadly that isn't the case today. Instead, your thoughts are wandering in every direction except the one you need to concentrate on. The result will be a sense of being disconnected from what's going on around you and possibly even a dreamlike quality to the day. Don't make any decisions while you're like this.
