Taxes are not raised by the city but the home appraisals are going up to the point that a teacher or a professional with El Paso pay cannot afford to buy a home.

This is good news for people who already own homes - like the skyrocketing cost of oil is for those who own ExxonMobil stock or bicycle stores.

WHY? Home prices are plummeting in the rest of the U.S., and our economy is in a recession!
Why is El Paso unique and prices keep soaring, even in light of the fact that this is a poor city?
Answer, can you say governmental greed? Our idiot mayor and county government won't stop over taxing us until there's no one left here to pay these never ending onerous taxes and fees!
Someone please stop the madness!

I have done construction and remodeling jobs in El Paso. The cost of Permits and the persistent pestering of city officials roaming from street to street looking for violators of city ordinances is Madness ! Funny thing though, they never ask if any of your workers are American citizens, hummmm...El Paso is looking more and more like Juarez every day that goes by, what a shame .

I heard from a good friend of Mayor Crook that he has a lot to do with the Central Appraisal raising prices on homes in turn raising property taxes, so he won't get blamed for taxes being so when election time comes around.

Is that the actual name of the current Mayor ? If not, who is the Mayor now ?

You got it ALL right. Central Appraisal likes to say that THEY do not raise taxes. So why with EVERY property evaulation, re-evaluation, evaulation, WE see another tax increase. The EL Paso "booming" real estate market is one big FRAUD created by John C(r)ook, the Central Appraisal District, the developers and builders. Cook wants more taxes, just tells Central Appraisal to raise evaulations, AGAIN. The question is good. So WE have to ask ourselves. Why does every other city in the USA have real estate markets in the TOILET and El Paso, down on the Mexican Border, one of the lowest wage, poorest cities in Texas and the Country have a "booming real estate" market???????? THOUSANDS of houses being built, THOUSANDS grown up in weeds, unsold. It's all just one big fraud created by people who should be indicted, charged and jailed.

Each time a used/ pre-owned home is sold the Realtors add in about 7% sales commissions, increasing the base price a person pays, but that does not mean the home is really worth any more. If the same home sells every year or two,
each person pays more because of the sales commissions.
Those higher sale prices are reflected in the next round of appraisals and the home seems to be worth more, but they are not.
Remember, at the time you buy a home is the time you choose how well it will sell many years down the road. Always buy the smallest home on the block and the lowest value in the area. Those homes always hold their value.
You can still buy a $200,000. home, just make sure all the other homes in the area are bigger and worth more than $250,000.
Then when you go to sell, your home will seem like a bargan and will sell fast and at top dollar per square foot
when you have the smallest home and lowest price in the area.

You're right. Six weeks after we bought our home, the kitchen ceiling collapsed from the weight of water leaking into the attic from a faulty cooling system. We had wet ceiling plaster all over the place and the contractors dragged it out to the driveway. Within an hour, we had some joker flashing his city badge at me demanding to come in to our home to "see what we were doing." He told me that neighbors had complained about the mess. That was funny because almost every neighbor we had came to help in our plight. Appliances, everything had to be moved because of the water. A couple weeks later I found out the "trash collector" had called the building inspectors or whoever they are. The inspector, in the middle of my angst, wanted to see the "credentials" of the contractors who were helping us dig out. I don't know if you've seen the nice city sedans and trucks marked "Environmental Services." Twice in a week I watched as they drove down our street, stopped, left the car running and took a "lost dog" sign off out street sign. What a job. I always take those signs down myself and no one paid me a cent. Nice vehicles though.

You're describing the third world way of governing the masses. I use to drive from Tucson to Dallas for years in the 80s. They were doing construction on a stretch of I-10 at that time. You could always see 10 guys standing around one guy digging or scraping, they all had dead flies falling off them, slow, very slow ! lol If that same job were taking place in Dallas, lightening fast in comparison to El Paso . Well I see the same thing here , more and more. I guess living on the border makes all of us susceptible to the corruption and influence of the third world, no matter what we do. Groan...

Hey thanks for this explaination. Don't understand all of the technicalities, just the $$$$$$$$ thing. Do you think most, all the evaulations are instigated by corruption??? Had my house built in 93, payment barely $750 a month, VA fixed rate. Now payment almost a $1,000 and the evaluations, re-evaluations have all taken place it seems over just the last 3-4 years. Seems most people saying the same thing. Either Central Appraisal didn't have a job before or the appraisals are done at the instigation of El Paso politicos, John Cook, City Council, Thomason, school districts, etc. What do you think about that, anybody???

Hey humdinger, it's time for you and your boyfriend to take advantage of that new gay right to marry law, before it's taken back. Even old farts like you can still get married.
