DeVos choppers whirl up debate: Bigger blades get louder neighbors
“When it came in to land, the trees swayed, the birds were blown away ... my kids cranked up the music so they could hear, my husband turned up the volume on the TV. It's obnoxious.”
Some people really don't like having a neighbor who lands helicopters in the side yard. via WZZM-TV Grand Rapids

Get over it people, you're just jealous.

I agree. I mean honestly, I can't imagine they are taking and off and landing every five minutes. A neighbors persistently barking dog is probably more disturbing. |
|
|
I agree, if they are landing and taking off during day hours and not coming and going constantly, then I see no issues with it.

Here's a thought for Roger and Rick....
Imagine it's Saturday afternoon... your kids are playing in the backyard.... you are doing yardwork.... when all of a sudden a helicopter that just took off a mile and half down the road from you developes problems and crashes in your backyard. Unlikely? Maybe.... Could it happen? Yes. The helicopter that Mr. DeVos is using is only a single engine, meaning no backup. Seeing as though a helicopter has no wings, gliding out of the problem is out of the question. Auto-rotation (basically a controlled crash) is the only other option. I'm not real excited about any of the above. And another thing.... Amway (which has several helipads and is owned by the DeVos family) is just a 2 minute car ride from his house. How about he just uses those pads and calls it good.... |
|
|
Their helicopters were paid for with cash that was swindled out victims of their Amway pyramid scam.
I'm sure they'll find a way to scam government approval of their landing pads the same way they paid off government officials to keep their pyramid scam legal. |

My, my, my....Most of us are concerned with gasoline approaching $4.00 a gallon, a possible home foreclosure, or earning enough in a week to cover food utilities for the family for the week...
I guess it's all persepective!! |
Exactly! Wouldn't it be fun to have "so much money you don't know how to spend it all" type of problems? |
|
|
It's funny that originally there was a TON of people opposed to the DeVos idiot getting his helipad in Ada Township, and now there isn't? It's amazing what happens when people are paid off.
It doesn't matter. Rich jerks like DeVos will always get their way. If someone says no to them, they buy them off. |

Just a thought You have a better chance of getting killed in a car accident tomorrow on your way to work than you will than ever having a helicopter crash in you back yard |

Here’s a thought, your neighbors are out on the water and the Coast Guard helicopter is out on another call, so Mr. DeVos fires his up and does a search. Is that good enough reason to put up with a little noise?
I agree, it is loud. You can hear him, I would guess, about 5 minutes out. It’s not a big deal though, and I believe it’s a worthwhile trade off. |
|
The DeVos' are very nice people with very nice families. Leave them alone. I see nothing wrong with them using their helicopters if they want to. Helicopters go over the airspace where I live in SW Grand Rapids, and over my apartment building, and don't bother me at all. If my grandkids are here, they run to the window to see what color it is. It's fun. The DeVos' are great people, so what if they have helicopters.
Some people complain about anything and everything. Get a life! I'm on the DeVos family side. |
|
Maybe he WORKED for his money???I don't know, just a thought. Hey I do not know all his families financial background BUT they aquired that money somehow. I would love to have millions too...I don't OH WELL. No jealousy and complaining here. I will just keep working hard at my job and do the best I can to support my family. BTW, who cares if he has a helipad...big deal. You people just always need SOMETHING to complain about! Hey you probably complained about the family with the chickens in their backyard too, didn't you?? LOL |
|
Imagine you are with your kids on a train in Chicago and a semi runs into it, or that you live in the flight path of a runway... And to all those who are angry that the Devos family is wealthy, I am sure if you became wealthy the money wouldn't change your life. |
|
Yep.... you're right. And I'll have even a better chance of getting killed in a car accident if his helipad is not built. |

He tried to buy his way into politics and demonstrated his arogance and wealth, this should be a bit easier for him, not as many people to pay.
Remember when one of the helicopters that scamway owned crashed in lake Mi.? it can happen again over land, or in his or your back yard. |

1. Are you happy with the Granholm, and previous administration, in Lansing? And, the fact that many of your neighbors have to work out of state? Would you rather have a state run like a profit & loss responsible business? 2. Yes. I remember the accident over Lake Michigan when they were returning from Chicago. I’m pretty sure that was a helicopter from an outside organization. Maybe that’s why they buy them and maintain them themselves now. I have no connection with the Devos family or Amway. However, I will admit to being a fan of Igor Sikorsky. |
|
The DeVoses are criminals who made a fortune off of cheating people with their disgusting pyramid scam. They are real low-lifes who use their scam to prey upon unsuspecting people who actually worked for their money. They should be in jail, not flying around in helicopters paid for with the cash of their victims.

You sound very bitter. Sour grapes? Fired from Amway for incompetence or laziness maybe? |

Well, I’m just a “workin’ man” too. I don’t profess to know much about Amway. It seems to be a company out for profit. Does the fact that people higher up, who are more responsible for risks, make more money than others with little risk, make them a pyramid? Heaven forbid. Is Meijer a pyramid? They make a profit too. No one forces anybody to buy Amway's products. An accountant friend of mine says their prices are better than in stores. That is how they make up for the inconvenience of not having a store for their customers. |
The people who buy Amway, do so by their own free will. Devos does not hold them at gun point and make them participate in that. People are responsible for what they choose to do with their own money. Some choose to spend it on 'pyramid schemes',some choose to SAVE, others choose to spend it on helipads, to each his own:) |
