I had this happen to me recently and it was frightening!
I had baked a turkey breast, took it out of the oven, sat it on the stove, and it exploded. Glass, and juices from the turkey shot all over my kitchen and into the family room! I picked up the chunks, washed and vacuumed the floor but I still found glass in places for weeks....including a chunk I took out of my puppies mouth weeks later. I threw all my glassware away, and will not buy it again.
When it exploded it sounded like someone shot a gun in my house.
And I was standing right in front of the stove when it exploded. I was very fortunate the glass didn't hit me in the face, or eye...
or the juices for that matter....

DANGEROUS with no warning.

Since most bake ware comes from China anymore with its inferior quality, watch for bubbles baked into the glass. Heating can cause it to explode.

About 8 months ago, I took the Baked Salmon out of the oven. Put it on top of the stove, and the Pyrex pie shaped cookware exploded. I still have two other pie shaped cookware, which I still use, and no problems. The Pyrex is about 20 years old.

This happened to me a couple of years ago. I was reheating something in the oven in a glass pyrex pie dish, and took it out and as I was removing it from the oven, the glass dish exploded. The linoleum floor had little burn holes all over from the hot pieces of glass sticking to it. Yes, I agree this could be a serious problem, especially for people with smaller children around.

Originally,(when the product was American-owned and American manufactured), Pyrex(r) glass was manufactured with a material called borosilicate, which gave Pyrex (r) its unique heat resisting properties.

A number of years ago, the company was sold to a Chinese firm, World Kitchen, in 1998. They changed the formulation of the glass and began to use what is known as soda-lime in place of the borosilicate,(soda-lime is a much cheaper material). Soda lime glass is the WORST choice they could have made. The disadvantages of soda-lime glass is that is not resistant to high temperatures and sudden thermal changes.

There is little chance that the "gummint" will be able to successfully pressure the Chinese to remedy this since our largest creditor nation is China... in essence, they do not have to respond because they own us.

I use glass bakeware (Pyrex) all the time and have never had any problems. I think eveyone just wants to blame their own stupidity on companies (like the guy who sued McDanald's because he didn't know hot coffee would be hot). I think people who don't understand the basic properties of glass shouldn't use it. I think the folks who work with PYREX BEAKERS in the labs would have been the ones complaining if there was actually an issue with the product. Just to point it out to anyone who missed it, GLASS CAN BREAK. I'm just so fed up with the sheer stupidity of the general public and I'm embarrassed for you all.

That will always happen if you put COLD glass into a HOT oven. Maybe you should study some fundamental physics. I could have told you that would happen. Oh, and guess what? If you put a HOT glass dish into COLD water, it will break, too. It's basic physics and I'm astounded you didn't know that. There really is a problem with the public school system. I have to question the wisdom of someone so ignorant trying to raise children.

I think I am going put some chicken in a glass pan and broil it in my toaster oven then through it on the stove to reduce the juices. Not, cast iron rules!

They are lying. I had one explode on me. it was a purple pyrex.I pulled it out of the oven and took the food out of the pan. I went to move it and it exploded for no reason at all. All I did was touch it with my finger to see if it was still hot. I had glass all over me for days.

For all you idiots that think you are smart. It is cookware it isn't supposed to explode. They never did before. Just like the lead in toys. blame the maker not the cooker. They should be held to to expectations of being moved from cold to hot and hot to cold. I don't know who wouldn't preheat there oven before putting the pan in it. They are supposed to be made to do that idiot.

I had this same thing happen to me twice. An Anchor Hocking glass cover that was suppose to be oven safe exploded into little pieces upon taking it out of the oven. Also a Pyrex glass baking dish as seen on the news last night did the same thing when I took it out of the oven. I was hit in the face with glass and just thank God that my toddler wasn't in the kitchen at the time. I was very shaken and left it just as it was so my husband could see it when he came home. He was shocked and couldn't believe it either.

Pyrex Love is NOT sponsored or endorsed by the Pyrex company (it's run by fans of the product). If you do your research, you'll find out Pyrex always has been and is STILL manufactured in the USA. This is just pathetic mud-slinging on a company that's been in business 95 years, and they didn't make it this long making shoddy products. And everyone who buys into this story should really go back and take a gradeschool level science class.

Look, every company tries to "idiot proof" things, but as soon as they do, there's an even bigger idiot to take the place of the last one.

Dear Heidi-- this same thing happened to me this past winter, glass went flying and even burnt my hardwood floors in my new house. Thankfully none of the kids were in the kitchen and some how it missed my eyes. Thanks for sharing this with everyone!

Last week I had cooked some pasta in a metal pan and after dinner put the cooled leftovers in an Anchor Hocking bowl. I put the bowl in the refrigerator. A couple days later opened the refrigerator to find an exploded bowl and shrapnel all over the refrigerator. This bowl was NOT used for cooking. I put the contents into the bowl after it had cooled a bit. There is NO REASON that this should have happened. Consumers ARE at risk. The company is covering up as companies so often do.
