My comments are not nearly as passive and gentle. Grackles are evil, nasty, destructive birds that have no redeeeming qualities whatsoever. They randomly murder any and all smaller birds and their eggs at a very shocking and alarming rate. Saying they are a "pretty bird" is akin to complimenting satan on his clear complexion. They have effectivly eliminated any fun and enjoyment I have ever gotten from feeding the birds. All the decent birds have left and our ground is covered with these "locusts". I will no longer fill the feeders. The Grackles are all that is left. I must wait til they are gone.

ThereIsNoGod,
If you took the time, you'd find most Christians enjoy a healthy dose of scientific reality, and aren't locked down to a Biblical precision of time. Don't pidgeon-hole everyone.

What you call scientific reality goes against what you claim the bible says.
Do you really believe the earth is 4-6,00 years old. If not. You are not a true believer. So why bother wasting your time, and money, on ancient texts.

See, you think it's an either/or thing. I am not NOT a Christian because I believe the Bible is metaphorical, written for better understanding of people of it's time. And it's message has been blurred & skewed by wicked leaders & poor interpretation. Knowing these things, and still believing in one father the almighty, and that he sent his only begotten son to die for our sins, gives me informed faith. Opening myself up to other possibilities, but still being able to hold on to my faith strengthens my faith much more than those of blind faith.

Psalm 116:12-17

12 What shall I render to the LORD for all his bounty to me?
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD,
14 I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
16 O LORD, I am thy servant; I am thy servant, the son of thy handmaid. Thou hast loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the LORD.

What does this have to do with the thread of the Grackles infestation in Arlington?

They have just as much a right to be here as we do, a vast majority of us are not native either, and those that were native we drove out of their lands and infested their communities with drugs and disease. People are no better.
For those concerned about disease, I can tell you that most diseases or illnesses carried by birds are not transmitable to humans. Those few diseases that humans can catch (West Nile, and Avian Flu) very rarely occur, and it's even more rare that they are fatal - the media creates a lot of unnecessary and misleading hype.
I have had the priveledge of handling Common Grackles (not the Great-Tailed Grackles we have around here), and they are very big, loud, and like to bite. But Cardinals are much more "evil" in hand than Grackles. Out of hand, both are very beautiful, and quite interesting and exciting to watch if people would take the time to observe them. Yes, the poop on the car can be a bit annoying, but it washes off.

I suppose that the same could also be said of people - big, hairless bipedal rats that cause more harm than Grackles (or any other nuisance bird) do. At their worst Grackles are only a mere annoyance. It's good for us that there isn't an organism on this planet higher up the heirarchy than us, cause we'd be in a world of trouble.

Grackles are not an introduced species, they are native to southern Texas and Mexico, their range has simply expanded over time as the human population has futher expanded. Of course, it's always ok for the human population to move and expand, never ok for anything else. Gotta love those double standards.
