What is wrong with that Grand Ole Opry's General Manager......???? He needs to be fired.... This is what Country Music is all about not these new Jungle bunnies thinks they are singing country and dressing indecent on Opry shows.....
We should keep the music old like it use to be such as: Ernest Tubb, Kitty Wells, Faron Young, etc......
I I knew this man I would make sure he was fired, and never work in music again unless he works for the Boom Box Music

Years ago, my father was a member in one of those old bands that helped the Grand Ole Opry to get started. I was in the studio at the time, 1925. My dad was a member until he passed away in 1975.
The Grand Ole Opry helped to bring attention to the city of Nashville. I have always been proud of that. I am not proud of what Mr. Fisher is doing to the older members now! It's time he found another occupation. MOVE ON, Mr. Fisher, we need someone in your place who wants to help the industry, not destroy it! |

How can you be too country for the opry. I cant believe that Pete Fisher would say that. If Stonewall jackson is soo good than he should go out on tour. I know that the opry would not deny a good singer. Even though I belive that Stonewall jackson is not that good and should come into the country now a days. With the half country half rock. That sounds much better.

There is no excuse for age discrimination, HOWEVER, if I am unable to do my job properly, I expect to loose that job. Many of the older stars featured on the Opry, have great difficulty singing nowadays. Often, but not always, thier performances are well below the standards they set for themselves in previous decades. In addidion, the Opry is a business. Always has been. The older stars often are not able draw viewers and ticket buyers like the new stars can. If the Opry doesn't have viewers/listeners/attendance, there will be no more Opry for anyone. If an artist is able to entertian and draw viewers, please come! If not, do everyone a favor and retire gracefully. That goes for young and old alike.

I agree with Stonewall Jackson. I have made many trips to the Opry in the past, but wouldn't go see it now if it set up across the street from where I live. I agree also that the Opry Manager ought to be fired and they need to bring in someone who knows about real Counry Music. But, if you do like the Opry, go see it now because it probably won't be around for too many more years. I believe the great Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie Louvin would agree with Stonewall. I have another complaint with the Opry, though. I have written them several times with a question that is important to me and they don't even have the courtesy to reply. That question is: WHERE IS ERNIE ASHWORTH?

Silver Star Families of America awards Music artist TOMMY RIDDLE with the Silver Star Banner.
SSFOA has awarded Music Legend Tommy Riddle with the Silver Star Banner for his military service and support of our Wounded Heroes with his new CD, Three Screaming Eagles. It is a compilation of original writings by several artists, narrated by Tommy. He hopes to distribute to all our troops everywhere. Riddle will be inducted into the Traditional Country Music Hall of Fame August 28, 2006. Riddle stated, What I am doing with my new narration CD, is to support the troops of America. I pray that the radio stations will support me on this CD, it is for a good cause, I hope to sell a lot of CD's, of "THREE SCREAMING EAGLES" ,so I can send them to the fighting men and women in this War. I need everybody's support to do this. God has led me to do this, so I am stepping out on faith to accomplish it and I thank the Families of America for their help. SSFOA, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit public charity organization was incorporated/founded in the state of Missouri December 2005 by Chief (Ret) Steven Newton of Clever, Missouri. The organization's primary mission is to honor the courageous efforts of each wounded hero (current and past) through the presentation of the Silver Star Banner and Certificate of Recognition. In addition, SSFOA sends care packages consisting of items of books, CD/DVDs, playing cards, phone cards, and toiletries to our wounded in Military Support Hospitals of Walter Reed in DC, Brooke Army Medical Center in TX, and the Balboa Naval Medical Center in CA, plus the Army medical center in Lundstahl, Germany, and Combat Surgical Support Hospitals in Iraq and Afghanistan. SSFOA operates with volunteers and obtains the Silver Star banners/flags via donations from the public. All donations to SSFOA are fully tax deductible as allowed by tax law and the organization recommends you discuss with your tax advisor. The Silver Star Banner is presented to a wounded hero and/or a fallen hero designated family member whether they are eligible for other military awards and medals or not. For many years we have had a Blue Star banner/flag for those who serve or have served in current and past conflicts/wars and the Gold Star banner/flag for those who have paid the ultimate price. According to Steve Newton, founder of SSFOA, there was a gap between the two banners which needed to be filled so that our wounded heroes (past, present, and future) are never forgotten. SSFOA defines wounded as military service members either currently serving honorably or those who have honorably served in the past who receive medical treatment or are diagnosed with an impairment which has altered or will alter that person physically or mentally, to included, but not limited to "Wounded in Action", non-hostile injuries during deployment, or "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder" (PTSD). For more information on SSFOA or to make a donation or purchase Tommy Riddle CD please visit www.silverstarfamilies.org . Please remember to support our troops, past present and future. |

It's unfortunate that some folks don't realize what Gaylord is up to ... it's the same thing that happened to Rock & Roll and general merchandising -- complete homogenization for the sole purpose of increasing profits at the expense of diversity, history, and good music. Gaylord is focusing on the young urban demographic and using the Opry for showcasing new acts to increase record sales and their other shows/networks. It's basically CMT/MTV at the Ryman. Packaged acts all playing the same whiny "music." Why else would they have someone like "Motor Mouth" Kelly who spends most of the show blabbering instead of letting the music play. It's not the Opry anymore, it's the Nan Kelly talk show. And boy, she's such a "phony" !!That's why all of us out West don't watch it anymore -- and, we aren't taking anymore trips to Nashville or Memphis or even Tennessee for that matter. Rather head to California. Country music is better there!!

In answer to your question where is Ernie, he is still listed as a member of the Opry. He appears when he is off the road and wants to be on. I listen every Saturday night and once in a while he will be on it. |
|
In my orhter reply to your question I should have added that Ernie has a website. www.ernieashworth.com . You might be interested in going to it. |

I agree with Stonewall Jackson. I get a kick out of the young superstars of Country Music, they say they admire the old Country Stars like Stonewall and are proud to stand in that circle taken from the Ryman and then they sing music that sounds like 70's rock & roll. I've noticed that since the Gaylord Corporation has taken over that traditional country music is slowly being thrown out the window in favor of a country version of rock & rock. Reason being that the Gaylord corporation targets a certain age group, like 25 year olds, to make top dollar on thier investment. They disregard the older generation who grew up listening to traditional music. Genuine Country Music came from farms and country. People who sang from thier hearts simple tunes with a tasteful melody to it. George Jones sang a song called "Who's going to fill thier shoes" and how true that song is. The Grand Ole Opry should carry on it's shows like they did in thier haydays back in the 50's and give the younger generation a chance to hear what old country music sounds like. And by the way where's the humor like they used to have. I don't like where the Gaylord corporation has taken country music and control what people hear on the radio and television. I hope Stonewall Jackson socks it to the corporates. I know alot of people who would back him up.

I think if more people contacted Gaylord Enterprize and complained or requested that Stonewall be allowed to appear that they might go for it. Media pressure can acomplish a lot with stubborn businesses like this. Take signs with stonewall's name on them and picket the opry. I am a late bloomer and just discovered him recently and already purchased 4 of his records and listen to him daily. If I lived In or near Tennessee i'd be there fighting for him. Great Artist Stonewall Jackson-would love to hear him in person. Sure hope he wins his suit against them. |

I used to say, in my youth, I want to see the Grand Ole Opry before I die. Well, got to see it twice, once on their 50th Anniversary. But watched it recently, several times on GAC. What a disappoinment. I didn't recognize hardly any of the people on there. That's what happens, when these young people take over management of an old company, it is run right into the ground. Saw Stonewall Jackson, on Midwest Country last night. They have some of the older country stars on there, and boy, is it good to see them. That is on RFD-TV. Where do the older people, who have the money to spend go now? Branson, that's where. I don't hear of anyone our age, going to the Grand Ole Opry anymore. Too soon, do these young folks forget, the glue that held this country togather, whether country music, or the country itself.

It is so typical, use someone and then throw them out with the trash. People like Mr. Jackson, Loretta Lynn, etc.. made the Opry and country music what it is today. It is a disgrace not to make them feel a part of it today !!!!!
