Rebate debate: Stores offer stimulus deals, but some are saving...

Retailers across the board are rolling out deals and promotions as they try to get consumers to spend their economic stimulus checks at their stores.

I will not be using mine for the store incentives either. I actually did review them to see if they would help stretch the budget. One was for a major retailer, gave a nice added bonus, but was only good for general merchandise, not groceries. Had it been, I would certainly would have taken advantage of the deal. Many stores are offering incentives, but are they something we can use.

I was excited about the stimulus check, but it has taken too long getting here. I was going to purchase furniture with my check, but now with gas prices soaring and the economy slumping even further I will probably just pay bills with it. I don't see how that will help the economy.

I would avoid thegift cards. I've heard of too many different ways that you can lose money with gift cards. The media had some coverage on that around Christmas.

That said, mine will be with a paper check via snail mail at the very end of the mailing. By then, there should (I think) be some stories on some of the scams that retailers are pulling.
