Look for higher prices....

with less competition, Publix can fleece us even more!

A stalk of celery is up $1 to $2.99 in a week...and u can't tell me that's because of gas prices...

They sure can afford it, with how high their prices are.

While loss of Albertsons here in SoFla is not much of an impact beyond Publix' already excessive market dominance, it's still too bad to see that competition is going to lessen & certainly food prices will continue to increase.

Does anyone know if there's an antitrust grp in state gov't that we can go to? I'm sure if it were investigated, it'll become pretty apparent that Publix is waaaaay overpricing b/c they have such limited competition.

Actually, the celery supply moves from Florida to California at this time of year and it now costs 12000 to ship a truckload of vegetables from California to Miami

Albertson's fish, shrimp and other seafood is 10 times fresher than Public and 1/2 the price! I don't know why the seafood in Publix ALWAYS SMELLS and cost so much more.

Last week, Publix had a gallon of Gatorade on sale for $3. It was $4 at Walmart.
Publix also had their own brand of soda on sale for 50 cents for a 2 liter bottle. Walmart's own brand of 2 liter soda was 68 cents.
This is fleecing? If you feel Publix is sticking it up your butt, then shop elsewhere. Oh wait, you're from Wilton Manors. Bad butt reference!
Anyone American that shops at Wal-Mart is showing their idiocy. The company is fleecing the American people at an alarming rate.

Publix is learning from them.

Shame on you!

Every once and a while, I try Winn-Dixie but they always seem seedy and smell funny. Sedano's is even seedier and smells even funnier. Super Wal-Mart is a horrible experience just because it is Wal-Mart. The only viable alternative for me to Publix is Super Target. But Publix always has more and keeps luring me back.

Broward Meat and Fish is beating the profits out of Publix in 2 areas of Broward. Better quality, better prices.

Any American that doesn't shop at Walmart is a financial retard. If you like paying more for the same products, you evidently got too much money on your hands. Vote for Obama--he;ll take care of that. Plus he'll let all the Key West *ahem* "couples" get married.

They are the "premeire market" There are still Winn Dixies, Super Wal-Mart, Super Target as options... Now Whole Foods probably has celery for about $20.00 a stalk....

I was at publix yesterday and I saw this HUGE woman sitting on top of the potato salad and cole slaw. I couldn't buy it after I saw that. Along with them buying Albertons, I hope they invest in some benches for the people who feel they need to rest their huge a$$ on the food.

Because Publix is a near monopoly in Florida and if they want to sell half rotten smelly fish at 12 bucks a pound, they pretty much figure you can't do much about it. The produce in Publix is also substandard - tasteless tomatoes for $3.99/lb, one mushy red pepper is $5.00, and a bag of cherries for $8.00 on sale! And if you can afford to buy this stuff, you better eat it quick because it will start to rot or get moldy within a day or two. This is the only place I've lived where there little or no grocery competition and food prices are by far the highest.

Publix already has a store every mile or so -- no wonder their prices go up every week. I hate WalMart, but Publix's prices are so high, I am shopping at WalMart more.

If Winn Dixie and Albertsons would build new stores that are clean and don't look like they are in a third world country they might have a better shot at competing with Publix. I say tear all the old Winn Dixies and Albertsons down they are nasty and dirty and always full of illegal's . I never shop at Dixie or Albertsons, once was enough, gross

I have to disagree with an early post on here concerning prices, Florida is NOT the highest priced, I just got back from Illinois and the prices there are horrible, no where near the specials we have here at Publix and Winn Dixie and the gas was already 4.29 a gallon for reg at every station. Its bad here but it is worse in other places,, Try BJ's for produce good prices and its really fresh, the meat is good there too, if you have a large family I highly recommend getting a Costco or BJ's membership. Its only going to get worse folks so use your coupons shop everywhere that has specials and be smart, DONT GO TO THE STORE HUNGRY biggest mistake and don't impulse buy.
