Recently we bought a used Alan White sectional to replace the secional we had owned for almost twenty years. The build quality is great, the style is timeless, and the fabric is top-notch.
Tim: I just ordered an Alan White sectional too and was wondering if you ordered yours in microfiber? If so, how do you like it? I ordered mine in August and am still waiting on it to arrive.

We purchased an Allen White sofa 3 years ago and I am not impressed with how it's holding up, for a $2000 + piece of furniture I would expect it to last longer.

I just purchased 5 pieces of custom upholstered Alan White furniture to be delivered in January. Jordan's furniture says it is good quality. I have been dismayed to read some of the posts here, but it seems like most of them relate to furniture built just before the Canadian company took over. Does any one have recent experience? The pieces I ordered have additional down fill - it was so comfortable - but now I'm wondering...

sklar peppler the canadian company that took over alan white is a very well run company. I just got my set from sklar/alan white del about 2 months ago. Very happy with it so far. Far better then anything you would find in ashley or that type of price point. My brother reapirs furniture for a living and he came over and took of the dust cover underneath to check how the frame and all that was made. said it was made very well. Not high high end but the price is not high end either. Great product for the price your paying. I once got tricked into buying a ashley sofa, please dont ever buy there, honestly built for firewood and nothing more.

On September 4, 2008 SKLAR Furniture in Canada declared that it was bankrupt.

Check out this link:
http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/49185...

This was a false alarm. The company decaled bankruptcy for real on November 12, 2008 and owes its employees over $3,000,000.00 in wages, vacation pay, severance and termination pay. Thank the Canadian labour laws for at least protecting their pension.

This is the company that has committed to invest "unlimited resources" into Alan White. This claim is made on their website.

http://www.alanwhiteco.com/index.htm

Maybe they intend to invest the three million they owe to Canadian Employees. Or maybe they don't have anything to invest in Alan White.

As for quality.... I wouldn't trust it.

Warranty ??? good luck.

I just got any Alan White sofa and love seat from a yard sale. I paied 40 bucks for it. The tag on under the cushions were dated 2006. The man selling it seemed eager to get rid of it. He kept telling me it was nice and that it was perfect for naps and sleeping. so far we love it! It is from a yard sale, so I don't expect a lot.:-)

I bought my first Alan White sofa, and love seat in 1981. We still have it 27 years later. It has survived counless moves and two tough, yuckie boys over the past 27 years, I shows it wear, but it one tuff (and very heavy to move) set of furniture. I divorced and bought a new Alan White couch in 2005. It is not as comfortable and cushions and pillows dont seem to be holding up near as well and it is not built as sturdy as back in 1981.
Quality is certainly lacking these days in everything, however, I still like Alan White and would probably purchase again.

I have had my Alan White sofa for 13 years. It is in great shape and still sleeps great. It has survived two children. I would buy this brand again.

Chris,
Just bought a used (toup/lt.tan) microfiber sectional off of Craigslist. Owner states she paid $2800 for the set (4-pc.,sofa sleeper, chaise). The inspection tags say it was made in late 2006, so it was used until now. The set and fabric look brand new... to the point that no one believes I bought it for $1200 off CL. Didn't know anything about "Alan White" until I so the tag under the cushions and Googled the name. The sofa seems to be built well and has held up nicely.

We bought an Allan White sofa from a store in Naples fl. We have had it for 9 yrs with 2 kids. The sofa is still in real good shape. Since the sofa is in our family room we use it a lot and also lay on it and the kids have jumped on it on several occasions. We recently got a pet hampster who destoyed the cushions and chewed up on the corners. I tried sewing them but that didn't help. I tried to check online to find if i could get the fabric and have it fixed. Any suggestions on what I can do. All the other pieces are in great condition. I have sent an email to the store where I purchased the sofa from hopefully someone will get back to me.

Anyone know where we could obtain parts (sleeper mechs, recliner mechs etc) for Alan White products? Trying to help some folks repair their furniture. Thanks
I believe when they went out of business, another
company took them over, I looked into ordering a
sofa from them that I truly loved, but it was too
late.... You can probably research who took them
over and order the parts from them. It's been awhile, so I don't recall who they referred me to.

Go to the alanwhiteco.com web site. Although the web site is under construction,(will be up in a few weeks) there is an email address to customer service. Your invoice should have a fabric # on it, and customer service can check availability and mail you yardage. If you have the style # and it is a current style, they can often make the cushions for you, and mail them to you. I hope you can find that information.

Hi, I worked for Alan White Furniture in the Sulligent, Alabama plants for four years, The quality of the furniture is great. One of the reasons I loved working there was the materials they used was top notch. The company closed its doors a few years ago. There was a major change in quality the last several months of operation, in 2006, they were trying to cut cost and were using cheaper materials. I don't know if anyone is still building under the name, but just pay close attention to what you buy, not just the looks, but shake it around a bit. I mean check the arms and see if they seem to be sturdy. We went from oak to pine and press wood, but that may not be the case now, ask to find out, or remove a few staples under the piece and look and see. We built for some of the top company's in the U.S. and I think with a little study of your furniture you can find something that will last.

I have had an AW for about 6 years purchased in Ohio (Macy's) . It is the most comfortable sofa we have owned. We are not light weights by all means and my husband and Grandchildren FLOP on the sofa and loveseat. One cushion is somewhat misshaped due to husband using it wrong.....back support on arm rest. But I would purchase another one in a minute. This is why I am HERE....
