The lenders can't sue people for vandalizing their homes before they are foreclosed on. That would be like suing you for painting your walls. It's "their" home and they can "decorate" it how they like.

Exactly... Besides what would they sue for? While I think that the perpetrators are pricks of the first degree, it's not like they can take much else or ruin their credit much more.

There is help. I called Foreclosure Justice at www.dontjustwalkaway.com and they did a mortgage modification for me that included reducing the balance on my mortgage because all the houses around me were short sales. I saved 347 dollars a month. They are worth it. I recommend them if you are having trouble making your mortgage payment. Call them before you fall behind.

Don't quote me on this, but I think you can only do a mortgage modification if you have not refinanced your home before. Its a pretty sweet deal and only costs like $500 to do, but if you have refinanced at least once you can't do it. Thats how it worked several years ago anyway. Could have changed now that all theses idiots are being foreclosed on.

I don't know what making a smart financial move has to do with being liberal or conservative. Judging by the numbers I would guess that there are many on both ends of the political spectrum that got caught up in all of this. If there is an opportunity to keep your home if you are in a position to lose it... or even to just drop the amount you have to pay... most people would jump at it.

I'm just thankful that my house has not devalued that much (only 10k in 1 year) since we purchased it. It could have been a lot worse, and from what I hear it is in some places. Perhaps you would be better served by not being quite so judgemental... people would be more apt to listen to you and your message anyway.
