Old friends recall Obama's years in LA, NY

The way Sohale Siddiqi remembers it, he and his old roommate were walking his pug Charlie on Broadway when a large, scary bum approached them, stomping on the ground near the dog's head.

This one article has told me more about Barack Obama than all the pundits and experts combined-every democrat in America should read it and realize what a rare opportunity we have to elect an honest to God honest man. He has the gift of grace coupled with high intelligence-I pray the American public will see him clearly instead of through the prism of a dishonest media. Thank you, Doris Ward

Upper west side of New York, "well built Pakistani", walking a dog, cooking with the guys, jogging with the male friend, waterpolo, etc. All sounds pretty gay to me. Just what we need another administration stacked with closeted gays. Obama says he lived "like a monk." Need I say more? Notice nobody remembered those anti-apartheid rallies at the Black Student Union. Personally, I wished they had recalled that he was at a few beer busts with a few sorority girls.

I "lived like a nun" in college. So I guess that makes me gay?

Actually, I was concerned with getting good grades and found the many party distractions on campus were not in my best interest. I had to maintain a good average for scholarship funding.

But, most at college didn't seem to have those concerns. Mom and Dad would pay no matter what grades, or how many years it took to get the kid through.

I'll never forget one date (the 3rd with this guy), and his horror when he discovered I wasn't a WASP! Lots of profiling and generalizations going on in our institutions of higher learning. Too bad it seems to be an accepted part of the American Way.

Craig, if that is all you come away from that article with you obviously had your mind up before reading.

Kathie, you obviously have a well tuned talent for reading between the lines and finding there exactly what you expect.

This article was written to give a bit more insight into Obama's personal character than we are usually shown in the media. It's sad that an article that portrays him so positively still manages to bring out unfounded comments meant to trigger fear and/or hate.

What I brought away from this article was an impression of an idealistic, highly intelligent, mentally disciplined, caring young man who had an uncommon amount of maturity, a recognition that he was part of a much larger world, and a desire to help others. He has empathy for others. He has high moral standards. He values honesty, but he's not a prig about it, preferring to adhere to his own moral code rather than force others to do as he does. In other words, he tries to lead by example.

All this article did was make me happier that I decided several months ago to back him. We have an opportunity in this country to elect an uncommonly well-qualified candidate for the Presidency. His sensitivity to the suffering of others and his encounters with the lives of ordinary people living in Pakistan make him the best candidate for reaching out to the Muslim world and disarming some of the anger this Administration has engendered with its arrogance, ignorance, and sheer stupidity about other cultures.

I'm trying to fill in the gaps. Obama writes a book with hundreds of pages and gives two paragraphs to his college days. I'd venture that most people think that college made a big impact on their lives and that it was the experiences and the people they met beyond the book learning that was significant. I can understand why someone with political aspirations wouldn't want to emphasize the fact that two of his closest friends ending up with drug rap sheets or that his closest friends were Muslims. It's like his answer in the debate about the slumlord Rezko. He said he was "billed for 5 hours". Never mind the political fundraisers at Rezko"s house never mind the $600,000 deal to Obama could purchase his house Which by the way is across the street from Rezko. Obama doesn't seem able to tell the whole truth. And Worrywart when did "living like a nun" involve three dates? Aren't you proving my point that young people have social lives. Why would friends say they don't want to comment on knowing the young Obama because they don't want to hurt the campaign? What do they know that could be damaging?

You're trying to fill in the gaps by suggesting things that have no foundation in reality. There is a term for that: libel.

...Obama's first major campaign donations came from the far left radical homosexual groups in San Francisco. They pushed him to where he is now, along with Adolf Wright.
This country is finished.

They forgot about his friends Larry Sinclair and Rezko,Bill Ayers,Rashid Khalidi.
And there was friend Keith Kakugawa who Obama threw under the bus when Keith was down and out and asked for his help.
Nadhmi Auchi, another shady friend, who I think was deported from USA and probably has contributed to Obama's campaign..Obama denies knowing this friend but there are photos of them together.
We can't forget Farrakan with whom Obama planned and went on the million man march..
And his two father images , J. Wright who has shown his true profile all over tv recently.. and then his communist father figure during his formative years, age 10 onward..Frank Marshall Davis..
But his most admired friends are his muslim christian killing brother Roy and his cousin Odinga..
Who are Baracks enemies?..
Hannity who is an upright American citizen?? The enemies J. Wright taught him,, i.e. the white race, the American government, the descendents of slave owners,,

I forgot to mention that muslims enforce this rigid law... "Do not make friends with non-muslims"..does this not also apply to Obama's many muslim friends who associate with the "non muslim Obama).. unless he is a muslim practicing taqiyya...
Wake up America, have we all become masochistic that we want our enemies of 9-11 to beat us all to death....They will I promise you.

What libelous statement? Young good looking guy in the swinging singles scene of NYC in the early 80's no mention of girlfriends? Odd to me...that is just my opinion. As to everything else what is not true?

Kathie, did you actually read the article? It talks about him picking up women:

"You go to a bar and you try hitting on the girls. He had a lot more success. I wouldn't out-compete him in picking up girls, that's for sure."

In addition, I read one of his books, and he talks about girlfriends. Absolutely bizarre how you can pick and choose a few bits of one article, ignore others, and pretend that you have some valid conclusion about the guy.

It sounds like there is some very immature people on this board. Just because someone hung out with certain people in college, doesn't mean they have the same beliefs or traditions their peers have. I had friends that smoked weed, I have never held a joint in my hand. I'm Christian and there is a very nice Jehovahs Witness I talk to at work. I respect her faith and views and she does the same
We agree to disagree, but in the end God is the Judge.

That's all I need to know.
But, isn't the "enemy" the AQ, and bin Laden? Not ALL Muslims. Or, are you supporting the war to "take out all Muslims"? If it is, then why haven't you started at the ones living in the United States, where they may actually harm U.S. citizens? Oh, yeah, that's one amendment still intact, freedom of religion. At least here in the United States.

No. The FBI says the terrorists were Saudi nationals http://www.fbi.gov/pressrel/pressrel01/091401... - 9/11 terrorists
The CIA, FBI and NSA already stated the AQ terrorist funding was originating in Saudi Arabia:
FBI agent John O’Neill said: All of the answers, and all of the clues allowing us to dismantle Usama bin Laden’s al Qaeda organization can be found in Saudi Arabia.

http://www.9-11commission.gov/report/911Repor...

Yet, our President flew Muslim Bin Ladens and royal Saudis out of the country by 9/13 without questioning, to the distress of the FBI, CIA...
It's all there.

Bush and his administration have had long time relationships with this REAL enemy:

In the wake of Judicial Watch and other criticism of its ties to the bin Laden family business, the Carlyle Group reportedly no longer does business with the bin Laden conglomerate. Yet the Group, among other conflicts of interest, reportedly has a major business relationship with the Saudi Arabian government, which many have criticized for its lack of cooperation in America’s war on terrorism and its financial and other support for terrorist attacks on Israel and U.S. interests.
http://www.judicialwatch.org/1685.shtml

There is a long history of cooperation between the Bush family and the Saudi Arabia elite. Is it a coincidence or a conspiracy is a question that has been posed for years now.
Everything started in the 1970s when the Bush family founded the Arbusto Energy company and theReuters-.--.- bin Ladens helped greatly with their money. The company dealt with oil, of course. The friendship between the two families, which are sworn enemies for the public, continued for decades. When George H. W. Bush became the director of the CIA in 1976, he helped train the guards of the Saudi royal family.
http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp...

I think your concern about anyone just being Muslim as an enemy is ignorant generalizing. And you need to figure out who is really fraternizing with the enemy.

Oh, there's Bush on the news right now, giving a speech in, well, look there, he's in Saudi Arabia again!

Ruth, if you want a religious war, please get your church to pay for it!

Citizens in a land promising freedom of religion shouldn't be paying!
