Actually, I am a little surprised the loss was that low.

I see Chrysler has lost a ton of money.

Here is some advice for Chrysler,

Build a car similar to the Neon that gets at least 50mpg.

Build a car that does not blow the transmission up at 70k miles and costs $2300 to fix.

Build a car that does not blow head gaskets.

Build a car under $19,000 US dollars, that the common man can afford.

Stop building Hemi trucks, Cudas and all that ridiculous garbage, you will lose money on them.

I see a lot of Chrysler and Dodge products collecting dust on the car lots here.

My father was forced out of Chrysler after over 20 years. My step mother was forced out of Chrysler after 15 years. My brother in-law was forced out of GM after 21 years. I was forced out of a tier one supplier to the auto industry after 12 years. I am working in Utah because there are no jobs in Michigan that pay good wages available. I am away from my home, family, loved ones and even my dog so that I can continue making my financial responsibilities. In the beginning of the auto downsizing I am sure some dead weight was cut out, but for a long time every job cut is good hard working person who deserves some loyalty from the companies we stood by through these difficult times. Each job shipped to China, India, Mexico and Russia destroys a family here. Unions have sold out their members to create legal roadmaps for companies to terminate workers for chump change. Until we understand that loyalty is a 2 way street, and companies and unions are not giving it, we are just lemmings marching off a cliff. My heart goes out to thousands effected by the latest round of lay-offs. Get better Michigan, I want to come home.

Agree. Unfortunate for me, I usually rent from Dollar when on the road and their fleet is chock full of Chryslers. Big boxy gas-guzzlin' POSs. Most of the time I get Sirius radio which is literally the only redeeming value in the cars.

I have to say loyalty to Chrysler doesn't pay. While I have not worked for Chrysler, I have been a loyal customer since 1990. I have always liked the product and the service. However, unlike the other companies, Chrysler just plain refuses to make a quality economical car. People have been switching to other makes to get a better price and a better deal. I find myself considering doing the same thing. I just can't get a good deal with Chrysler anymore.

I blame Chrysler for this loss. Perhaps their marketing department etc. should have come up with better ideas a long time ago.

After owning 15 different Chrysler brands over the last 20+ years I finally gave up on them last year and went with Ford. I haven't looked back since...Ford has stepped up the quality above and beyond that of Chrysler. I have family that is retired from Chrylser so it was tough for me to move along.

Thanks for the pearls of wisdom. We will all be sure to follow the advice of another illiterate.

And while they are closing the doors, perhaps you can take an English class and learn how to spell and use proper grammar.

Build better cars than imports or get out of business. Domestic cars will not ever be more reliable than imports;however,I think that Chrysler can build a car cheaper and more fuel effient than a civic.

This is the way out for Chryler, Ford and GM - Build very unexpensive and fuel efficient cars.

My favorite is the Sunday puzzle...not because it is more difficult, but because I am making $66.00 an hour.

And, of course, when the crossword gets boring, there's always this ridiculous forum.....

(Back on subject:)

Carmakers are having a difficult time coping with sudden changes in fuel prices because for the most part their strategy is to make incremental improvements and changes to their products.

It's along the lines of 'why mess with what works and what sells'.

Of course, a new paradigm that better accomodates rapid change is the way they are trying to go now. This requires restructuring R & D among other things. They will get it together. They must to survive.

Dont forget Canada....alot of people seem to be willing to give them a pass but guess what they are taking our jobs too.. All I hear ( as an Chrysler employee ) is shift eliminationa , plant idlings......buy guess what they are in the USA.....Canadian plants dont seem to be affected.....Caw got the Canadian plants a better contract that we got in the USA ( example: they will not have a 2 tier wage system).Ive rambled long enough !! As far as im concerned working going North of the border is no better than work going south of the border !!

Gone?

Like Toyota in Kentucky, Indiana, and Texas?
Like Nissan in Tenn. and Miss.?
Like Honda in Ohio and Alabama?
Like Hyundai in Alabama?
Like Kia in Georgia?
Like BMW in South Carolina?
Like VW's new plant in Chattanooga?

UAW plants may be going, but auto jobs aren't gone, just moving.

What a juvenile sob story. Millions have moved in search of work and aren't whining.
