US employers add 80,000 jobs

Full story: WDTN-TV Dayton

U.S. employers added only 80,000 jobs in June, a third straight month of weak hiring that shows the economy is still struggling three years after the recession ended.

Great job, Obama. That is 80,000 that can now feed their families.

For you to come on here breathlessly waiting to see the postings from me or other people who you disagree with show two very telling things about you:

First, you have an obsessive disorder that reveals a very disturbing personality flaw… and second, you aren’t intelligent enough to express your own thoughts on the article that is up for discussion - so you are fixated on what others think, especially those of us whose arguments you can’t, but oh so desperately want to refute.

Well here I am boo-boo, so you can relax now, LOL!

This latest jobs report is just more proof that it is going to take time to fully pull this economy out of and away from the Bush recession/depression. President Obama will get this economy going full steam in his second term.

It is false to assume that ALL unemployed people cannot feed their families.

Only those people who CHOOSE to live paycheck to paycheck will struggle when they lose their jobs.

There are SOME responsible people left who have planned for this 'rainy day'(of unemployment) and are able to weather the storm without starving their family.

Too many people, however, feel that the government is RESPONSIBLE to take care of them when they lose their jobs.

People who can weather the storm take RESPONSIBILITY into their own hands and don't make the government responsible for their well-being.

Furthermore, GAINING 80,000 new jobs is a "dismal" jobs report, forgetting of course the fact that UNDER BUSH WE WERE LOSING 750,000 JOBS A MONTH. You see in the real world, when you GAIN more jobs than you lose that is a GOOD thing, a good jobs report, not great one but considering how the right-wing tea-baggers are doing their best to DESTROY this country for political reasons, that ain't too shabby in my book.

80,000 divided by fifty is precisely 1600 jobs per state. Of course, the jobs are distributed unevenly so this is simply a guideline, not an absolute. Traditionally, many of these jobs are summer work at resorts or entertainment centers such as waitressing, bartending, lifeguarding and so on, which are not generally seen as permanent positions.

Locally, the municipalities used to hire temporarily to fill in for regular employees on vacation or for positions as lifeguards and attendants at public pools and parks. My own city, which is now embroiled in a battle with the police, fire and sanitation workers whose wages have been reduced to the federal minimum, is opening only one pool, thus only a handful of temporary employees will be needed.

Also locally, major construction projects have been put on hold or scaled down because of reduced or evaporated funding. The up side of this is that under the table work is being done by licensed journeymen rather than fly-by-nighters.

Recently my son, who owns a truck, accompanied me to buy a necessary big ticket item recently. As we were ascending the escalator, he said "Look around you." I did not know what he meant until he pointed out all of the young men wandering around aimlessly in the mall. He said that when he was in high school and working as a delivery person for an automotive parts company, all the guys he knew had some kind of summer job. He also suggested that the number of police calls reported in the newspaper involve arrests for public drunkeness, DUI's, domestic abuse and petty theft. For the most part, they involve young people under the age of thirty. I believe the old expression is "Idle hands are the devil's tools."

80,000 jobs, many of them probably temporary, are a drop in the bucket. The 8.2% unemployment rate is an unfunny joke. It does not take into consideration the large numbers of people who have gone through their benefits. If the view from NEPA (Northeastern Pennsylvania) is any hint of what is going on elsewhere, we as a nation are not in a recession or double recession; we are truly in a depression.

Any mirrors in your house?

Were you not posting the day after the SC ruling on Obamacare asking where the 'right wingers' are?

If you were worth the effort, I'd find the link for you. But if you are honest, you'd acknowledge it yourself.

btw, I see "desperate" (or some form of the word) is your new favorite buzzword. A rather perspicacious observation on my part, wouldn't you say?

Harry Reid (D-NV) is blocking several jobs bills in the Senate. Why? I see Obama won't call him out on it. What happened to the new kind of politician Popeye?

Obama campaigned that his "judgement" countered his lack of experience, and in that judgement he said that the way to create jobs was to pass his health care bill.

Two months after Obamacare passed, the recovery stalled and jobs disappeared.

How did that 'judgement' work out?

Let's see how the market responds to Obama's not-a-tax, but really a tax mandate in the next couple of months.

One thing for sure, you'll still be blaming Bush or someone else for Obama's bad judgment.

Oh wait, after 3-1/2 years, wouldn't that be 'experience'?

LOL

I remember him saying if he could not get the economy going in his first term he did not deserve a second, I agree with obama for once.

Just wait until the constitutionally approved ObamaTax healthcare plan goes into effect running up hiring costs for employers nearing 50 employees, the jobs picture will remain dismal.

Daily Horoscope for May 20

Cancer

Your mind is working well, so give it plenty of exercise. You could get involved in an intellectual discussion that forces you to think things through for yourself, or you might have to do some serious thinking about a forthcoming travel plan. If you're often wary of saying what you think you'll feel much braver about speaking up today, which is good news if you want to fight your corner or express your point of view.
