Blame it on that good Christian company Walmart and those who shop there. It is Walmart who dictates to the manufacturers what it will pay for a toy, and then the manufactures who either sell to Walmart or go under have to go to places like china to make the toys to keep themselves profitable. And all the non Walmarts have to buy the crap made in china to compete with Walmart for your business.

Why can't we make toys for our children here in America? I just don't understand this. Not only do they have our jobs, but they are turning out dangerous products. I truly believe that we are more than capable of makeing our own toys and dog food.

americans are consumers. "Doh" is exactly right. everyone is so focussed on saving a buck that they don't care about the people. walmart employees are getting screwed, the chinese are getting screwed, and our children are getting screwed.

Why are we letting China live large on our dime when there's so many American people who need jobs? Look at the recalls: pet food, toothpaste, seafood, toys. Does anyone else see a pattern here? Moreover, why isn't anyone doing more to keep these products "Made in America"? More and more of our goods and services are being outsourced. I recently had to call Qwest after hours-I got the Phillipines. I have nothing against other countries, but when it poses a danger to our people then enough is enough. This is a type of terrorism more insidious than an Al Qaida plot. Time to bring our products back home and give our working Americans the jobs.

If you can find it made in the USA then buy it.The power is in your wallet. If the reatil stores don't carry it look elsewhere like on craigslist or ebay or second hand shops for American made stuff. Even if its used and in good shape. China is one ofthe worst polluters in the world. Stop buying their junk which eventually winds up in our land fills.

How can you spend 50,000 hours investigating venders and testing toys in a four week period? 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (168) for 4 weeks = 672 hours. A little over-stated if you ask me!

Maybe, just maybe, the Walton's could cut into their mammoth profits and pay a little more for toys built in the USA. Sure they might have to close some stores and cut staff, but perhaps those minimum wage workers they lay off could go get a job in a toy factory here in the US.

OR, we could continue on this path, endanger our children, and keep handing over our wealth to China.

china is not living "high on our dime" first of all, we don't pay well, and second, we owe china quite a lot of money, china has invested billion of dollars in our economy..

C'mon -- there are plenty of Americans that are willing to work. But, we have to stop this corporate (and Republican) insantiy where there is little or no oversight of business. Americans are willing to work, but have to make a living wage. Minimum wage workers (the kind that would assemble toys, for example) either have to work three jobs to pay rent / utilities / gas etc.(or if they're really lucky, a mortgage) because minimum wage x 40 hours is less than the poverty level! We need radical changes in this country, starting with oversight of ALL imported goods. And don't get me started on outsourcing of other services -- has anyone tried to get help on the phone lately and been routed to India, Honduras, Brazil, Ecuador, etc.?? This is a national disgrace!
You've pointed out AGAIN that "FOREIGNERS" are willing to work. Yes, for less, maybe three jobs as you have pointed out BUT they WORK. Sorry, don't agree about the Americans wanting to WORK. There's only a handful and they are looking for the BIG BUCKS.

Yes,, sad for the children that get thier toys taken away..heartbreaking for the parents as well....
I think the underlying problem here..lies with OUR GOVERNMENT....make the toys in AMERICA...Which WOULD GIVE AMERICA OUR JOBS BACK.
When will we learn?

It's really shocking how many lead recalls there are that you never even hear about. I found a site that tracks all of them and sends me emails whenever there are new ones.

http://www.leadtoyrecalls.com

It's time for the US to get serious about inferior toys being imported. We need to protect our children.

janis, the "government" does not make the toys. toy companies have stock holders to answer to. profit is always the motivation, it's the american way, good or bad. we shouldn't depend on the government to do anything, they'd only get the way anyways. the only thing that will change anything is if we all stop buying foreign made products that we think should be made here. the problem is that people always want to get the best "deals". stay out of walmart

Thats because American companies only want to pay those workers $1/day ... you'd die on that here.

Im willing to pay more for products to employ Americans ... I could give a f'k about Mexico or China.

Its only the greedy business bastards in the US that promote this crap. They all should be taken out and shot for treason against the US and its people.

Hey guys. Great comments. Its hard for me. I am a Chinese American living in San Francisco. I love my country but I have visited China. Its a unique country acting as an economic power but with 3rd rate infrastructure.
The fact is that China is in positive cash flow while USA has about 11 trillion dollars in debt. I am proactive and started a grass root website talking about the trade war http://www.leaddr.com .
I want to get some feedback from parents as well.

I am new to this site.
I am an inventor and can understand the concerns.
As a Chinese American, I am embarrassed about the entire issue. view http://www.leaddr.com/
talks more about the issue and the politics and trade behind the entire things.
The fact is that there are too many things "made in China"
I tell parents to get a lead testing kid when in doubt. hope this helps
Also, the US owes China a few trillion in bonds so I doubt they can wage a trade war.
