It's good to see larger companies looking into these products - what about smaller organizations? Are they doing the same? How long have these products slipped thru the cracks? Scary business.

One cannot forget what the China factor actually is:
Cheap labor = cheap products the majority of which lack quality control--its the throw away concept. They are so cheap, you throw them away and buy a new one.

China products are throw away products at best. Lets also not forget that despite their global presence as a viable source for corporate outsourcing, they are in fact labor of a communist government with a potentially different agenda from other countries.
You never really know what they are about.

Yes its good they are looking into it but how sad for the kids how do you take their toys away. I think we should manufacture in the USA not in China you get what you pay for.

Ditto. You have to stop buying from places that hate Americans or if they don't hate us, have poor quality control. I'm talking pasta from Turkey, 2 pkgs for a dollar is too good to be true.

How about canned mandarin oranges from China,as well as store brand apple juice from there.

I just read the label on these cappucino sticks. They're from Indonesia the most populous muslim nation and they hate us.

Read the labels, folks. There's a reason why the price is so great.

I keep hearing news reporters say the paint contains excessive levels of lead. As if there's an allowable amount? Isn't any amount of lead greater than zero unacceptable?

Isn't greed one of the seven deadly sins? How unfortunate that innocent children have to be effected by it!

For a teacher your use of grammar is interesting; the proper word is "affected" not "affected".

Perhaps I should learn some myself, as that would be "affected" not "effected".

I think it's wonderful that large companies are outsourcing labor and manufacturing to other countries. It gives our kids a chance to get terribly sick or die and it keeps their parents on unemployment so the companies can save money. GOOD JOB MATTEL!!!!

And we wonder why there are so many more children these days with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism and so on......
Who regulates these things???? I guess there is no money in it for them so they don't care about it.

Well I think we need to have more American workers manufacturing our goods. Cheap labor comes at a HIGH price! We should not have to pay for that with our children's health nor our own. Come on world-when is enough......enough already with everything coming from overseas.

A very concerned Parent

Another scary thought-how many other products are not being caught yet from these countries. Our problem in this country is we are to good to the enemy's. We preach Peace day in and day out-BUT if these countries do not understand anything but violence and revenge...how can we keep being the nice guy. Now our children are being affected with the very thing they live for when they are young! Come on we need American workers now!!!!!

The worst part is they are not replacing anything or giving money back, just telling people to throw out the toys (which is often tramatic for the child).

When are these large corporations going to put the safety of the consumers first and realize that we need to bring manufacturing back to the US.

Don't these products go through a US testing first to be sure they meet US standers of safety and if so how did these products go through. Is someone sleeping on their job or does the US just take it for granted that everything is ok, or does the US or Mattel just not care about the safety of the children they are selling these tanted products to. Wow consumers should be asking alot of questions too.

C'mon -- there are plenty of Americans that are willing to work. But, we have to stop this corporate (and Republican) insantiy where there is little or no oversight of business. Americans are willing to work, but have to make a living wage. Minimum wage workers (the kind that would assemble toys, for example) either have to work three jobs to pay rent / utilities / gas etc.(or if they're really lucky, a mortgage) because minimum wage x 40 hours is less than the poverty level! We need radical changes in this country, starting with oversight of ALL imported goods. And don't get me started on outsourcing of other services -- has anyone tried to get help on the phone lately and been routed to India, Honduras, Brazil, Ecuador, etc.?? This is a national disgrace!
