Report links Iraq war to Bush quest for oil

''It seems the underlying purpose is to subsidize the profiteering of the Bush/Cheney oil swindlers.'' On a balmy Fourth of July weekend, it is easy to be complacent about everything.

Interesting but will fall on closed minds when the ultra conservatives read it. I am not 0pposed to drilling but I don't believe that it will solve the long term outlook for our oil problems and really won't do much to reduce the price of gas at the pump.
Can only see it as a way of reducing the amount that we have to import.

Could anyone expect a different slant from a left wing greed motivated lawyer? Information from the New York times - the bastion of truth & fairness. Look Barack Who's sane? Obamas' brother Odinga up. Methinks the writer of this article should change his name to RUSE .

Ya gotta love these right wing sheeple that have commented that still love Bush and will defend him at all costs. They are the group referred to as "you can fool some of the people all of the time" types, they lick his feet clean and cry out against anyone who speaks the truth to Bush's lies, they defend lies, greed, idiocy and dishonesty. The Bush defenders are the ones who would prefer a monarchy over a republic as they have no faith in the USA but instead bow down to a false messiah, MABUS BUSH.

Well you will get your turn if the Pied Piper of Palaver wins in November.

Some of us are not so-called "sheeple, as you suggest, but rather more tempered and measured sojourners of the truth. This lightweight article by Russo (so when has he ever written anything with any bearing?) is his latest whining and reaching work.

My beef with Dubya is the stupidity of ignoring an age old treatise called "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu that clearly warns of guerilla warfare within the gates of the enemy's cities. His father knew it, he did not. He appointed the knucklehead Rumsfeld to be in charge (history will not be kind to him).

Those of you who ignorantly comment on the talking points of the far left about energy need to re-educate yourself. You are so laden with those tired out of date talking points that you will go so far as to cut off your own nation's nose to spite its own face.

You speak from a political and emotional base with absolutely no interest in the economics of resources, technological developments, the motivations of the markets as they currently are (free? highly debatable) and their use of energy.

Who are the sheeple? I'd suggest a hard self review.

PS I sent Russo's article to a few heavyweights of op-ed columns, on BOTH sides of the argument. I await their responses.

You can't expect the folks doing well under this Bush Administration to feel any other way, it's in their blood GREED. I got mine, I could care less about anyone else. Conservative Christians? NOT. And never will be.

They have their head up their rumps to their small intestines.

This lawyer stays in his backyard because he can't afford to go anywhere.
An article about swindling w/no mention of any lawyers? Oh, that's right - it was written by one.
More than 7000 died on clintons watch & nobody bothers to mention it.

The no-bid contracts scandal actually began with the start of the occupation, when billions of (American tax-payers') dollars for Iraq re-construction and security were awarded to politically favored corporations like Halliburton (Dick Cheney's old outfit), KBR (a Halliburton subsidiary) and Blackwater (major Bush donor). The results on the ground have been dismal--most Iraqis still lack dependable electric power and clean drinking water, they wait hours in line for gas--but the owners and shareholders of these companies have done very well indeed. The war and occupation have been profit centers for the crony-capitalists of the Republican party, while the American people have been presented with the bill, in the form of record public debt, decaying public infrastructure and services here in the U.S., and the lost and wrecked lives of thousands of patriotic young Americans who thought they were fighting for freedom, when in fact they went to war to fatten the wallets of the war-mongers.
But...we can't say we weren't warned. President Eisenhower spoke out about the dangers of the un-checked power of the military-industrial complex.

Although I can relate to the article and agree somewhat--I consider the source. Did the author ever do any "pro-bono" work? A required course in law school must be "GREED101". Shoot all the lawyers first!

The military-industrial complex has morphed into disaster capitalism, which Naomi Klein investigated extensively in her book, The Shock Doctrine. As Klein says, the best defense against shock is to understand it--how it is produced, what are its effects, and who benefits.

we all know there was more to this war than to help the people of Iraq. 911 gave the government an excuse to get over there. Our government is suppose to serve the people of this country not us serve them. Little by little they are taking away our rights and we are becoming slaves to their luxurious way of life. People should be outraged by the price of gas, food, housing, utilities, ect....Things are only gonna get worse. They are setting us up for communism, slowly but surely. Talk to the elders of our country who worked hard and lived through tough times...they said this was coming....they said the American People had it too good and this is the way of the government to put us in check. They also say us youngers have no backbone and we just take what they give us and let the government do what they want. What about our rights...what about "Our Chilrens Future?" There is no good reason for the price of gasoline ect...in this country......it is all about feeding the wealthy pockets, it is all about greed. The price of gas is affecting all but those pockets it feeds. When these profits are bulging their is no reason for this. People can't afford to heat their homes and are already worried about the winter months, working 2nd jobs or overtime to save up for oil...unbelievable.

If one looks in the dictionary for the term "Legal Leech" or "Parasite", one will find the word "Attorney" associated with it. Need more be said? Until attorneys, and that includes the writer of the opinion article, reduce their hourly fees to respectable levels that a person can afford without taking out a mortgage, I'll have little sympathy for anything they or he writes!

Donnie--- Are you complaining about $4 OIL while your candidate OBAMA IS HAPPY ABOUT IT and believes the cost of GAS SHOULD BE even HIGHER but,"maybe more slowly"?

Somebody cue the "twilight zone" music.
