Interesting, what is Jabil Circuit and why would their 135 employees be more important than any other workers who have been laid off?

Something not right here. Over a 100 Courier Corp employee were laid of and they did not get any type of grant or extra help from the state. What make this company so special!

Jabil Circuit applied for the grants for its employees. Courier or any other company can apply for the same exact grants, and if they meet the criteria they too can receive the same aide. The grants don't magically appear, they need to be applied for.
Jabil Circuit provides contract manufacturing services, since most of the work that was preformed at that plant was outsourced overseas, Jabil employees were approved for TAA (trade adjustment assistance). Also 135 is a wrong number, when the plant annouced it was closing there was about 300 people working there, not including the people that where laided off that previous fall. All those employees qualify for the grants too. Nothing makes Jabil Circuit special, Jabil applied for the grants, meant the criteria and was awarded it. |

Well great job Jabil Circuit thought of their employees, obviously worried about their unemployment and sought out assistance. I think the government and employers need to help all those who have lost their jobs. |
||||
Jabil has operations in 21 countries. If they thought of their employees they wouldn't have moved the jobs to other facitities. The state of Massachusetts isn't very business friendly, I don't know why companies would want to locate here. Massachusetts ranks 36th in the "State Business Tax Climate Index". This just means that U.S. businesses have 35 better choices. http://www.taxfoundation.org/files/bp59.pdf |

Book printing in this country is a dying industry. Anyone working at Courier would be wise to take a class or two in some other area of interest. |

What makes this company special?
Jabil Circuits lost their jobs to China. Their operations have been moved there. As a result, their employees are entitled to different types of benefits. Had they gone out of business, they would be like every other laid off person. But, the company moved to China. Apparently, they won't be subject to many of the high taxes imposed by the Obama Administration if the import their products from China as opposed to manufacturing them in the US where they would employ Americans. Bass Ackwards! Tax American companies and give foreign companies a free ride. There's a good way to stimulate the economy and create job growth. Unfortunately, the stimulating and job growth is across the Pacific in Communist China. |

Is Courier Corp a bussiness venture or a non-profit organization? Jabil is a busines that make profits and pay taxes. If Courier Corp is doing the same, earn revenue and pay taxes, I think this company should try to apply for the same grants. Otherwise; I don't think it fits into the same criteria. |

Courier is a printing company around for 175 years. This company has made bad decisions! The company has over 9 VP for a company of only 1800 employee. Question why so many VP? Other printing companies cut payroll across the board this company decided to pick and choose not even knowing what they actually employee did. This company is all about image; keep it quiet we get rid of a few to save our own paycheck, stocks and perks! A grant would have really help!

You've never seen their corporate headquarters if you believe that. |

What are you saying! The company is located in N. Chelmsford MA very nice location and office.... And I think she not talking about what the office looks like, she stating how the comapny is shown in the public eye! |

I totally agree with you, the employees where notified that the plant was closing in Febuary and then in July, Jabil annouces the plant in Mexico was adding 4000 jobs!!! http://www.evertiq.com/news/14335 So why close a plant in the US? Tax breaks, they make a bigger profit. The plant was making money, but corporate made a choice to "restructure" and the Billerica plant got the axe. Imagine how the employees felt after hearing about the hiring frensy in Mexico, one of the accounts Billerica had was being sent to the same Mexico plant. The Lowell Sun and Boston Globe never covered that story however. |
||||
Not only did they add 4000 jobs in Mexico, they moved the Billerica Operations to China. I only know this because, I have a relative that was employed there and he was offered to go to China and assist with setting up operations there. He declined for many reasons. They did offer a decent severance package. They actually weren't a bad company to work for, he liked his job. It's unfortunate that our own government (State and Federal) puts such a tax burden on domestic companies to the point that they are forced to move out of the country costing us jobs and contributing to the decline of our already tanking economy. Especially when the jobs are going to countries where business is controlled by Government and the people doing the work get a very small fraction for their labor. So, esentially, we are funding the Communist and Socialist Governments of these countries by shipping all of our labor over there. How else are they going to let us borrow trillions more to fund healthcare? So, let's continue to tax our Domestic Businesses out of the country so that they can contribute to the economy of those countries. They can let us borrow the money that they make off of our companies while our deficit continues to climb because we have to keep borrowing money from the countries where our businesses are going and our own economy continues to fail. Anyone that believes that the economy is improving, is clearly not paying attention. Unemployment continues to rise and as long as people don't have jobs, they can't spend. If they can't spend, the economy gets worst, the few businesses that are left aren't selling and they downsize and eventually are forced to shut down. $827G of borrowed money to give training to laid off workers that aren't going to be able to find a job anyway. Not until the economy gets better, and with companies closing up shop and moving out, that's not going to happen anytime soon. |
