Cops: Drunk driver in crash that kills Stony Brook prof

This is very sad news about Dr. Carr. Condolences and best wishes for his wife Dr. Wasserman's recovery in intensive care.

Drunken driving is inexcusable. It is also inexcusable that our
grossly overpaid Suffolk Police force is rarely seen on patrol
of our roads. Lazy is as lazy does. That's WRONG ISLAND and it is not acceptable.

Driving drunk and KILLING SOMEONE is MURDER and nothing less, when will lawmakers get that through their heads! MURDER!!!! How many more people must die??? I hope the drunk bastards that have killed innocent victims live in HELL forever and never know a night of peace forever as they live their lives.

Please stop this nonsense of blaming anyone other than the drunk driver. No more arguing! Rally behind this family and the memory of a wonderful man, a caring practitioner and forward thinking human. Is it too much to ask that we reserve this public forum to honor his memory with respect and no bitter diatribe?

Funny how despite the jihad against Drunk Driving, these accidents still occur almost daily on Long Island.

Seems to me a different approach is needed to overcome this problem.

Time to remove the emotional clap-trap of madd, sadd, etc; and replace it with intelligent, matter or fact practicality.

My mother worked with Prof.Carr for many years and is nothing short of devistated. Having grown up, and still living in Rocky Point, I knew the Koss family rather well. I graduated with their son and babysat their daughter. This is an awful situation that will have grief weighing very heavy on all the families involved. If anything, these types of events should serve as a reminder to all of us just how fragile life is. We should never take for granted those we love and always "check ourselves before we wreck ourselves"

That section of road is dangerous.People comming from the west on 25a are comming out of a wide streach of highway, which narrows down just after wm floyd pky. The speed limit is 45 mph but most of the time people are going way over the speed limit.Maby that drunk driver was out east smacking some wine.Speed , drinking bad mix..would love to see more police presence between randel road in shoreham and wading river manor road in riverhead.there is a huge amout of traffic that use 25a....

My heart goes out to Dr. Carr and Dr. Wasserman's son. You have had to deal with so much that many of us - twice your age haven't had to do. May you have strength and courage to get you through the days ahead. Remember your faith, family and friends are all there for you.

Michael Koss = Murderer

On behalf of the student population that Dr. Carr has impacted in Stony Brook, he will truly be missed. He was an amazing professor and very passionate about his work. He had an amazing sense of humor and there is not one person I have come across that has ever had a negative thing to say about him.
It's so heartbreaking to know he is no longer with us. He had so much knowledge and love to share with the world.
Being around his son's age, I can only imagine what he is going through. My heart also goes out to him and the rest of his family.

Half of the suffolk cops are drunk in the firehouse.

I also had Dr. Carr as a professor. Both in and out of the classroom he is a wonderful example of a human who truly had others on his mind and in his heart at all times. He truly was a beautiful human – man – soul. I did not know his wife personally, but I’m sure it is safe to say the same about her, and about their son Aaron – they were a beautiful family – made of beautiful people. The grief from this loss cannot even begin to be expressed in words.

It truly disgusts me to grieve for and about three people that are gems while I fight the nausea I feel having to think of three other people – the three people who are the cause of all of this. Normally people who live the way Dr. Carr and his family live(d)(helping, saving, caring, loving)- and a person like Michael Koss (a selfish, destructive, careless murderer), would not end up with something in common that could be talked about. I don’t believe the loss of beautiful people should be tainted with even the thought of people that are repulsive. But our sadness and loss is poisoned with anger and the unbearable grief of this immense injustice. That is just one of the many layers of this tragedy that make it so loathsome.

Writing about people so loved – and at the same having to write also about people we may only choose not to hate because we wish to continue to lead healthy lives – is a crime. But, ignoring some feelings would make the conduct of Michael Koss seem less than what it is – a despicable crime – murder. And it would seem to make the roles of Serena Koss and Mary Lynch in this seem less than what they are – accomplices to murder. These are adults who have lived more than long enough to know the value of life, and the reality that EVERYTHING we do has consequences. The exact details of what happened really make no difference – lives were taken, and hundreds possibly even thousands of people have been damaged, leaving an aftermath we will never comprehend. And it all happened because three adults who knew better decided it was worth the risk to everyone else. Inexcusable!

If your disrespect for authority and distain for the SCPD is that bad, then why don't you go over to the 3rd precinct where this fine young officer worked and tell the officers on duty what your thoughts are, along with your real name and address, that way they will know to NEVER come to your aid when ever you need it.

I hope this is inaccurate but I heard that the Dr. has passed too at Stony Brook.

What else is new? Drunk driving once again rears its ugly head. Because of this a well respected professor & psychologist are gone forever no thanks to another murderer. That's rigth murderer. Michael Koss may have been a nice guy but that goes out the window. All that is gone because he murdered Edward Carr & irene Wasserman. May they both rest in peace & hopefully son Aaron has the strength to carry on through this devastating time. Hope Koss gets lynched in prison by Bubba. LOSER!

I have been clipping drunk driving articles out of Newsday since my twins were born 7½ years ago. I plan on handing those articles to my children a year before their sixteenth birthday and I expect them to read all of them and write me an essay about drunk driving BEFORE they even consider asking to go for their driving permits.Of course I am hoping this will help prevent them from drinking and driving, but that doesn't stop all the other drivers on the road.
I personally do not drink at all and I have the great misfortune of the majority of my husband's family are all alcoholics. Too many people in my neighborhood are as well. I completely dislike drunkenness or people that can not learn to stop drinking after a few drinks. I understand it's an addiction, but more can be done to help put an end to alcoholism and drunk driving.
I think our neighbors on the other side of New Jersey got it all right— nip it in the bud and make the state a dry one. Way to go Pennsylvania!

The drunk driving in Suffolk County is out of control. It doesnt make sense how Steve Levy could take the primary DWI enforcers of the highways and then crack down on enforcement units within the precincts. SCPD through no fault of their own is becoming a reactive dept going from 911 call to 911 call. As Nassau County has increased DWI enforcement more than ever Suffolk County has taken an about face on DWI's under the leadership of Steve Levy. Where is MADD with all of this going on. I dont feel safe driving in Suffolk County anymore.
Drunk Drivers will always be out there and that is why we need police officers in these specialized units who are able to devote time to these impotant issues. Not just go from 911 call, take paperwork, and then off to the next 911 call. As the chances of getting stopped for speeding, or other violations decrease, the DWI's will be out there stronger than ever.
Steve Levy is your disagreement with our law enforcement that great that you are willing to put our well being in jeopardy?
