30 new jobs? Not much at all for new potential workers (there are thousands in the area).

But at least 650 people will be able to get their job back.

Why are they even talking about hiring new employees when there are still people who have not been called back. My daughter being one of them. She worked in the military building and I guess they are only calling people back to the main plant. Why not call those laid off from the military building and retrain them instead of hiring new people?

How is this really helping? Yeah, some people are getting their jobs back BUT #1 how long will it be before another lay-off?#2 The benefits are next to NOTHING.#3 This is not helping the "Ship" workers, what are they supposed to do..some have already exhausted their benefits, I know a select few from Ship that had the opportunity to transfer to McConnelsburg but less $$, No mileage re-imbursement...Nothing! If they refuse, they loose their unemployment bebefits. This maybe a good start BUT it def. is not going to turn things around like "They" want us to believe.

When are people going to realize that it's going to take a very long time for it to ever be the same as it was? If this isn't good enough, I know plenty of people willing to drive over a mountain for a job, without reimbursement. If you're not willing to drive, quit your complaining, I guess you're not in a tight enough bind. You can't have your cake and eat it too in this economy. Take what you can get, I know lots of people who will if you won't! But then you won't be able to sit at home collecting that unemployment check, pointing fingers at "welfare queens" who "won't go to work".

As I recall, the contract for the MRAP's was in the billions. Just another case of corporate welfare.

Just a curious question. What year did JLG start laying off people. Who was the President then?

JLG has laid off and rehired people since te day it began business. Can't blame it on any one president. They have a job opening right now in Hagerstown that I am overqualified for, but I won't apply for it simply because I like STEADY employment.

WRONG. Our soldiers who are preparing to go into Afghanistan need those MRAPS; they give our soldiers a much higher chance of staying alive. I'd say that if you look at it as only corporate welfare, your priorities are out of whack.

I don't have to drive over any mountain for any reason A**hole, I have a job as an R.N. thank you very much! I was talking about some of the people I knew from JLG, Maybe if you had taken time out to read before opening your BIG mouth, You would have known that.Apparently you don't have a clue about what kind of "fast ones" this company has tried to pull with it's HARD WORKING employees, Who - without them the company wouldn't have been the company it was 2-3 years ago, The guys getting the "FAT" paychecks could care less...I think they are forgetting that without those little "peons" out in the plant, they wouldn't be making those "big bucks". I'm not saying that it's not a step in the right direction - I'm just saying it's not as great as they're making it out to be, It's going to take a VERY LONG TIME to turn things around! If I was in no danger of loosing my benefits I wouldn't drive that mountain for $10-12/hr. & little to no benefits. How much would you really be making? You have to factor in your gas, wear & tear on your vehicle..Etc, That mountain is very treacherous in the winter - I just know that I wouldn't do it if I had alternatives.

FEDUP is 100% correct. If workers would organize themselves, you WOULD have recall rights. Doesn't it seem strange to anyone that this work was put out for bid, but Unionized companies bids evidently were higher than JLG. But were their bids actually higher after the Feds pay $300,000 to train unskilled workers? Unionized companies such as BAE for example, already have the skilled workers in their work force, no $300,000 extra monies needed. Organize yourselves people!!

Thats because Americans are stupid compliant beings...the "little guy" is a scared idiot.

They were told the union was no good...and that this other corporation (temp agency) would better represent their interests...and they bought it. Fools.

Part of this is Bush's fault - He never properly positioned the country for war. Instead, we were told to just "go about our business." No sacrifice necessary.

Now we have some confusion.

If this call back is part of the war effort...(and it seems it is.) Then it should be seen as temporary, and not part of any greater economic rebound.

JLG should be making that distinction.

This is a taxpayer funded, temporary hire to satisfy a military contract.

It is NOT a permanent rise in domestic/international free market business.

Oshkosh Defense is unionized and they won the contract not JLG. JLG is assisting in the rigorous production schedule to complete the M-ATV.
