Teodoro, if you are retired with a good retirement, why are you going back into the work force to steal someones job that needs to work? You should volunteer your time. This behavior really ticks the private sector off. Anyone who takes early retirement and is a government worker, should fully retire. If you choose to retire from the police, fire or other city or govt position at 55 or younger, retire, stop stealing the jobs away from other folks because you are bored or have spent too much money and now need another job. Volunteer, do community service, do something else besides taking a job you really dont need...

i feel the same way. the city has retirees back as "consultants". quite common and apparently unstoppable. no one ever talks about it from the dais.

Bringing back retirees is very common, and it tells me the current employees cannot or refuse to do the job of the one that retired. In the private industry you take on the repsonsibilities or get fired....apparently we can't do that in Vallejo.

Sure he might be taking a job but someone could have beat him at it had they had the initiative to apply instead of whining how someone took a job..I think a positive note would be that he could train a newbie in a few years when he finally retires..The problem I see here is everyone is so negative instead of finding the positive that this training will bring, heck, maybe Cisco might even come to Vallejo/Mare Island if this proves to be a success..my 2 cents..

What's all the complaining about? The guy has a right to go back to work if he wants!! The only thing i dissagree with is the guy taking a spot that someone else could have (who is out of work. Not retired. Big difference!) who doesn't have the 3 grand to pay for the regular training.

It is an excellent idea and purpose driven so I give kudos to Cisco for starting this pilot project. To teach "tech skills" to the unemployed is good business and beneficial for all.

What greatly disturbs me though is that Cisco selects Vallejo because they said, "to get the attention of Democrat George Miller". Why?, to hopefully get taxpayer dollars in the future to pay Cisco to instruct folks in "tech skills".

Now Cisco can teach these potential employees the Cisco way and they can get taxpayers to foot the bill courtesy of Mr. Miller.

Cisco, with the $Billions that you make, do the right thing and fund your worthwhile project with your own money; Leave the taxpayer out of this one.

And just where are these 'tech' jobs? certainly not in California or the bay area...what with the high cost of doing business here. Companies are moving their tech jobs to other states that are cheaper. Routers, switches and other network equipment can be monitored and controlled from locations...even from India!!

this is a great class! There is a high demand for networking skills so this free course is a great thing.

Why would an employer hire someone with only training and no experience when California's unemployment rate is over 12%.... they can hire well trained and experience workers for much less than they are truely worth.

Sounds great! Do they offer job placement after you finish the class?

No not currently but this is a new program. Call or write George Millers office and inquire. Cisco is trying to get this pilot program adopted by the state.

Teodoro Rosauro really should have given his spot to someone who really needs this kind of training. how long will he really work, maybe 5-10 more years, this is wasted on him and anyone else of advanced age. i bet older people sign up for classes like this because they are bored they don't actually plan to do anything with this knowledge.

As a 50 year old, I like OCD's take on Teodoro's initiative.

And as a taxpayer, I don't feel as outraged as SayWhat at some tax money going to train people to join the workforce. Employed people contribute more to everyone.

If we think about it, all that money spent in Iraq and Afghanistan could have been used to provide the jobs that these young, unemployed people need. So I think it's unfair to make the senior citizens responsible for the lack of jobs in this country, they have as much right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness like everyone else.

And if push comes to shove, pass a law that prevents seniors from joining the workforce.

Daily Horoscope for January 8

Aquarius

The atmosphere in the office is stressful. Learn to divide time in a planned and phased manner. Beware of starting a lot of new things but not having the time to finish any of them. Mental overload will burn your busy and chaotic schedules and health problems may crop up all of a sudden. If you party with friends this evening, don't make it too late.
