I had the intake gasket repaired yesterday on my 96 Lumina sedan. Now, the SES code shows the camshaft position sensor is bad. Can ANYBODY tell me how to locate it and replace it? I'm going to do it myself. NEED HELP though locating it.

Why are you people blaming the manufacturer for normal wear and tear on a 6-10 year old car?? Do you expect them to last forever?? Believe me, no car does. I have a 1994 Chevy Blazer 1500 that still runs and looks great, it has had excellent care. We also have a 1992 Subaru Legacy that has 150,000 miles on it. I has a few problems but I certainly don't blame Subaru for it. I had to spend $600 a couple years ago. Maybe I should sue. Do you also complain when the tires wear out??
GM cars are good for at least 3 years!

It bothers me that my $35,000 Montana van as mentioned earlier has needed a manifold gasket, an air conditioner compressor and now a front wheel bearing. My 2002 hyundai accent that I purchased two years ago has not needed any repairs what so ever. I have the service records and the accent has never needed any repairs. As a GM owner for over two decades GM has really let owners like myself down. MY 1995 Pontiac Sunfire needed three manifold gasket repairs untill I just let it die. When I purchased the extended warranty from the GM dealer for the Montana I was told by the dealer that it was not reallly necessary. They were right! AutoShield Extended Warranty Company would not cover any of the repairs because it considered them to be GM,s manufacturing defects.GM informed me that I was foolish to purchase an extended warranty that was not GM,s. The dealer however stated that the warranty I purchased at that time was the best.
Why would I give GM an other chance?

I tried taking a shop vac to the intake to the intake to get the coolant out Im just wanting to know something,i replace the upper and lower, will im doing the upper right know do you think its worth it,i have a 1998 buick park avenune,3800 s2. If the started is rotateing the engine can it be a locked up engine or just coolant resting in the engine, the coolant leaks from the throttle body when you try to start it,i put new lower intake gasket on it still had the problemis there suppose to be coolant on top of the intake, because the plemum, is still leaking. What is causing this problem.I was hearing check for cracked pentum, not the gasket.so im taking the old gasket off and puting the new one on.im dong this tomorrow.so the reason for my car not starting could be coolant siting where it fires and won't because of the coolant.I mean does this mean the engine needs head gaskets, because i look at the dip stick for the oil and it smells and looks like oil.Ive been working on cars for 15 years, but always on old cars.alot easyier they don't make them like they used to...lol.
but my aunt gave the car to me and 3 weeks latter its sitting she said she had this problem in 2004 with it,so im thinking, can coolant get in there and just cause it to not start.or is my engine done and need to be rebuilt.because i can rebuild it for 180 dallors for set of gaskets, will that fix it i don't want to do all that work for nothing,so if anyone knows a anwser to this question please let me know . i don't want to waste my time on something,if im just going to have to take it all apart again.

This is not a complaint site; it is a GM business site. If you want to complain then go to a car complaint site. Just an FYI, these types of issues happen in every manufacturer, not just GM. Hell, there are many manufactures experiencing more recalls then GM, whether it be the reliability, design, process, etc, there will be issues. GM has increased quality dramatically. Furthermore, GM products now carry a 100k warranty.

It's a 7 year old car!! I can't believe you would even bother putting a motor in it!! Ever heard the expression "Don't beat a dead horse"?? I have a 1994 Blazer and if it needed a motor it would go to the junk yard. I find it very interesting that most of the complainers on this topic are from Canada. I have had more GM cars than I can even begin to count and do you know how many times I have had problems?? ONCE, with a MAZDA that I used as a work car. And I didn't bitch to Mazda or spend a huge amount of money on it, I junked it and bought a Buick.

I now have to take 1/2 of my savings and fix my Buick Century intake in the 3100 engine. I had no idea there was an existing problem. I will NEVER buy another GM product. What a rip off.

Who do they think they are keeping this quiet. There should have been a recall.

Good Luck GM

I'm with you. We had a 2003 Impala LS. Our engine was destroyed. The US should have a class action suit against GM. They wonder why people buy Honda, Toyota, etc. I will never buy American again when they produce lousy workmanship. I just bought a Honda and LOVE IT.

I had to have the manifold gasket replaced and a complete flush of cooling system at a cost of $1200 and since I bought the car new in July of 2001 and have only 64,000 miles and performed all scheduled maintenance, I,m entitled to some sort of rebate. Please reply!
